USGI MOLLE 200-rd "SAW" pouch is perfect for this stove. Available in multiple colors/camos, and the greyish USAF ABU units and the greyish Army UCP units can easily be dyed with common RIT dye. If desired, add 2 x 1" "D" rings to the PALS attachment straps on the back of the pouch and a shoulder strap.

Best chili EVER! we typically we throw chopped-up stew meat in the chili, have some shredded cheese, and eat it over Marie Calendar's (sweet and soft) cornbread.

Ahh.I remember this stove when I served in the Swedish army back in the 80:s. We called it "snuskburken" (the filthy can) :D

Blackie, I have the stainless version & keep the brass stove inside all the time naked & have never even seen the slightest amount of discoloration whatsoever. Maybe the alum. is different. BTW this is my go to setup for car camping.

Its a wonderful little army stove, the meal looks awesome, right now I am hungry :-) I have my trangia stove for more than four years and it never leaves me alone. The idea with the creek water is really good. A little tip from my side: you can use the windshield upside down down as a hobo stove with fire wood or when you put the stove in as a emergency tent heater. Cheers from Germany and thanks for the great Video! Btw in Germany it its mostly prohibited to have a fire in the Forrest so i use this little trusty stove over and over again :-)

thank you for your comment..the little stove has served me well..and i often use it on camp outs where a fire is not needed..safe journeys

The brass burner doesn't really cause any reaction with the pot but it does over time release some stored alcohol vapors into pot. The burners are old military surplus and have some old damp basement smell to it so you might want to wash burners then store it in a zip lock bag to isolate residual smell from burner.

Nice video! The two steel rings in the handle of the lid is for sticking a wood pin in to use as a long handle to use the lid as a frying pan over a camp fire

Blackie... looks like a good little kit. How you find these things is amazing. I have tried several different kits over the years, but I keep going back to my old coffee can hobo stove. I can use several kinds of fuel with it: wood, twigs, pinecones, homemade alcohol stove, esbit cubes, etc. Ì have a couple of stove (coffee can) sizes depending on the size of the party. I have several fancy store bought cook pots to use but back in the day when I was young a d poor we just used another can or my surplus mess kit. Alcohol stoves can be made from just about anything - I like to use potted meet cans. The thing about the hobo stoves is the only last about a year or two if you use them a lot. They tend to rust. However, it only takes about 10 min to make one from a coffee can. lol My homemade alcohol stove is probably over 50 years old. Oh, yes, the hobo stove works best in bad weather with a wind shield. For that I just use a piece of aluminum stove pipe cut to size. Good video.... sometime I would love to see a video on the homemade kit items you came up with as a kid to go camping. Maybe I am getting old and nostalgic but I have almost completed the base kit my cousin, Judy, and I took with us on our many adventures. It only weighted about 20lbs for a two week summer trip. My grandkids are amazed that we could get by with so little. lol. Of course we fished and foraged a lot for about half our food. Blessings to you.... Later......

Hey Blackie! I like this mess kit a lot, but the regular burner is often too hot even with the simmer ring. I have found that a can of “chafing fuel” provides enough heat to simmer or keep food hot after getting a boil with the main burner.

i had one of these mess kits for a couple of years. I liked it, but the oval shape and inability to to use the "lid" while the bail was up finally got me to pull the trigger on a zebra pot. no way I'll be getting rid of it though. super light, tough and a great design.

I really enjoyed this. That's because I have never been a fan of alcohol stoves. But then my experience of them has mostly been restricted to those I have made out of tin cans! For myself, for this kind of cooking my Jetboil works very well given the fuel limitations. For myself, the multifuel options from stoves from the likes of MSR and Coleman have been like a godsend over the years. As with all things each to their own. Thank you for the video, I will consider the possibilities of this kind of stove with new eyes. :-)

MOST of the time - it's not practical to cook on a fire. Sure if you sit around in an established camp, that's a way to pass excess time, but ever so often the day is full of enough other work that it's not really so feasible ...

Great piece of kit Blackie, l have one in stainless steel that I have used for several years. I noticed your pot doesn't have the curved wire hook on the bail, never seen one without it before.
@blackoracle696 жыл бұрын
yep took mine off..its for then to hook over large cross bars in the military so they can heat 20 or so pots at once..i found mine got in the way more than it was worth
@OKBushcraft6 жыл бұрын
blackoracle69 If you hook it into the little belt slot on the front of the pot it makes the bail rigid enough to pour out of one handed.

Thomas, do you know how to season aluminium pots like your trangia stove ?. I think its not safe to cook acidic foods in aluminium.
@coloradoviking45506 жыл бұрын
Many times here in Colorado we can't have open fires either. We can use a bushbox type of stove. If you stuff it with wood, it will put out a small amount of flame. It's a poor substitute for a campfire, but we do what we have too. Blackie, what do you think of the Boy Scouts letting girls join?
@blackoracle696 жыл бұрын
i am all for the young ladies being taught woodscraft..now as to them and the boy scouts mixing...well..they already had explores that had both boys and girls..and i remember being that age when half my body weight was harmone...lol

Hmmm, bought 5/6 mess tins in this German/Swedish style from different countries over a year ago and they haven't made it onto the kit list. Just keep using the kit I'm used to. Will have to try them out in the future, might be that one piece of kit I never knew I needed till I tried it.
@OKBushcraft6 жыл бұрын
jelkel25 I have the stainless Swede set up and several Polish aluminium in the kidney shape. All are great but the Swede is the luxury class one, its a bit heavy for the pack but is very durable.
@jelkel256 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's finding the acceptable compromise with weight/size/usefulness/situation ect. Got both German, a French WW2 marked one which is never leaving the house, an older Swedish one and a rarer Norwegian one which is beautifully made and the lid fits so well you could carry water in it all day long. The Stainless Swedes are top notch kit but for what they cost (now) and how often it would get used, can't justify the price.

Is it ok to use isopropyl alcohol instead of metholated?
@blackoracle695 жыл бұрын
it will not burn as well and depending on what mix the isopropyl is may not burn at all
@Frodillicus14 жыл бұрын
You can use isopropanol but it gives off a lot of soot and burns quite yellow so I expect it isn't as hot as others because of it, if you have some give it a go through, I'm sure there are fuel comparisons on KZfaq for trangia stoves etc.. have a go and tell us what you think. www.trangiafuel.co.uk/types-of-alcohol-fuels/
@kylewilkinson6975 Жыл бұрын
Auto stores sell "Heet" or "Heat" (use only yellow bottle) as a fuel additive. Burns hotter and cleaner than other alcohols.
