I was looking for Smokey's version and saw this. WOW never thought anyone could compete with Smokey, but this version by Gavin is so incredible.

I was away at college my first year or so, I'd fall asleep with the TV on, I remember this performance waking me up and I was so glad to have caught it, I was already a bit of a GD fan but I was pretty much sold afterwards. I still wonder if I just happened to wake up or if the opening notes and vocals were so beautiful to me that my subconscious wouldn't allow me to remain asleep. One of those weird moments in my music history, he was actually my first concert, (Chariot tour) I wasn't quite old enough to buy alcohol in the US :| (takes sip) :) great experience either way. I need an analyst I know, sorry to ramble. Good memories

This is what I love about music. A song (Cupid) that I loved before Gavin Degraw even started making a name for himself. Then I hear Gavin Degraw for the first time and instantly know I enjoy his music and have loved his music ever since. And then, as if the world made it happen, he sings this song.
