My view is that people will inevitably disagree about a whole load of things and that's fine, but when people hate each other over disagreements about the kinds of things we were discussing (and disagreeing over) then it's a real problem, both for the hater and the hated. If two very obnoxious parties disagree they are much more likely to wind up hating each other, I think that has got a lot to do with hateful personalities rather than the specifics of what is being discussed. There are a wide range of views and personality types - sometimes discussion goes very badly between those with opposing views who are prone to hating those with opposing views.

My memory of GamerGate was basically me finding out that a bunch of gaming journalists had been completely ignoring ethical rules of journalism and I was annoyed at that. But the more I got in to the movement the more I realized that the "solution" to this problem that most people in the movement wanted was to just ban all women and various minority groups from gaming all together. I spent some time trying to tell myself that these guys were just the outliers and the "true" movement was actually about ethics. But with time it became undeniable that people like me were the outliers and, even worse, we were the shield those other fucks used to hide their bigotry. So I started distancing myself from them. I still think it's shitty that several gaming journalists completely ignored the ethical rules like they did. When Zoe Quinn was being harassed a bunch of journalists, in some weird attempt at a defense, started admitting to their own ethical violations as if that made it ok. It was pretty much exclusively writing articles about people without disclosing their personal relationships with that person. But the rule against that exist for a reason. And when called out on it they hid behind the idea that gaming journalism isn't real journalism or that they were "just bloggers" not journalists. All though they conveniently got press passes to every convention despite not being journalists. But regardless of how I felt about the journalists, the behavior of the people in GamerGate made it impossible to actually do anything about it. The open harassment, the bigotry, the racism. Even just mentioning the fact that you cared about ethics in gaming journalism was just poison. Which is why I ended up hating that movement even more than most people. And GamerGate 2.0 feels like all the worst elements of GamerGate boiled down to its core essence.

i think its valuble to say that using white people as a single term in general is disingenuous. there are various ethnic groups that are generally categorized as "white" today yet have faced varying levels of discrimination throughought history.

I did enjoy the new Saint's Row (though came into it shortly before the studio got dissolved) and I know you say it feels like "How do you do fellow kids." but there was some stuff that felt... too genuine for that. The larp/roleplaying stuff. The fact you build a castle with a tower... where if you interact, a 20 sided die falls down it. I appreciated the characters a bit more. And I liked the old Saints Row games. But maybe part of it is I've had really terrible bosses and appreciated the "corporate/boss nasty actions suck."

I disagree that rdr2 would make Matt like games. Many of the main cast are women and/or are non-white, and the game repeatedly depicts racists as idiots and villains.
