Sundown Audio has expanded their line of high end amplifiers with the SALT series. These are Sundown Audio Low-voltage Technology series and today we are looking at the smallest monoblock in the lineup, the SALT-2.

I hate to say this but I believe sundown is being sneaky with their choice exact wording in them saying "Korean designed board" but I wonder if these are made in china but designed in Korea and that is why you're unable to do the half ohm dynamic run 🤔🤷‍♂️

Its absolutely nothing special either. 100% buying a brand, and after the SFB situation IDK how they are justifying it. Sundown subs are great but steer clear of any of the amps!

@@andrewlewis5251 the salt series amps are half bridge and actually pretty badass. They have nothing to do with the sfb full bridge amps. I'd love to have a salt 4,6,or 8k amp.

Nailed the log pot issues. Log pots are for volume controls, not gain knobs and there is a difference! It trips up so many engineers…I have caught it several times.

I have this amp running 3 twelve sa sundowns with extra battery starting voltage 13.5 to 14.5 my voltage drop to about 12 to 11.5 and still whamming hard no difference this amp is badass!!

Save yourself $270 and get a Synergy WFO2.1. Also Korean Made. More power @ 1ohm 2800+ watts and .5ohm stable. Sundown is sooooo overpriced on their amps.

Great vid Big D. Sundown makes some serious amplifiers and speakers. Putting that serious power down for sure ! Kind of on par with Rockford Fosgate as far as price and power i think.

Rockford is a much better proprietary design. Of course it costs more, but it will last longer too.

sundown is no rockford, when it comes to amps at least. I'll take a fosgate amp any day over sundown. fosgate is more expensive though. sundown subs are good probably but again, I'd take a fi audio sub, deaf bonce, dc, dayton sub over sundown

@@Titans2138 i have Rockford amps in two of my vehicles. One is a 2003 model and one is a 2018 model. I am a big fan of Rockford also. I have had a few blow up on me over they years though but i can say that for pretty much all brands

@@emersonmayeaux2482 luckily I’ve actually never had any amp blow up on me but I have blown a number of speakers when I didn’t understand what ‘gain’ was. My point was sort of that Rockford actually designs their own circuits so you can imagine why they are expensive. Sundown on the other hand just picks out an amp from a Korean build house and they slap their name on it. There are a number of circuit designs that get used over and over by different companies. It seems like for not that much money anyone can have their own amps. So to me almost $800 for this 2500 watt amp is insane. If I learned this after I bought this amp I would feel ripped off

Hey big D! So I just came across a brand new amp from precision power called the ATOM 1800.1! It has the latest Korean class d tech and dual power and ground power inputs, plus Tiffany style rca inputs and outputs! If they are the SK series, just stick with the Skar amps. Much better value for money. If you want more power, get a Taramps Smart 5k for like $600 and you can have 6k watts if you wire it at 1 ohm.

Running two RP-2000.1’s and an RP150.4 running components. The mono amps are pushing an EVL series 12” dual 2 ohm sub each (2 total). Also running a set of skar 6x9’s for rear set. This is crammed into a ‘95 Silverado. It sounds amazing, but doesn’t hit quite as hard as I imagined. Mid 130’s measured with an iPhone. Used properly designed sealed enclosures to save space. Again, sounds amazing, just doesn’t hit like I envisioned when designing the system. I should also say this is a brand new build. I’m rechecking wiring. Did everything right, metered ohms and all. Mechman alternator, running an extra optima battery. Big 3 done, still need to double check all the ground to frame connections. Maybe some rust or corrosion causing a bad ground somewhere. I was expecting at least in the 140’s

I may have to try something else. It’s just this is an obs hotrod build, not specifically a comp stereo build. I’ve seen amp dyno vids of these amps pushing rated rms all day. Last hotrod truck I built like this one, I had 1 kicker solobaric 12d on a kenwood excelon 1600 watt amp, it hit low 140’s. With one 12” sub. SQ wise, it’s great. Just something ain’t quite right. Like I said earlier, I’ve got to recheck some grounds. I’d hate to spend another grand or two then find a bad ground connection

That bass knob is exactly like what comes on the Down For Sound amps. It is a nice bass knob but the LEDs are too bright! I got the display on the bass knob on my JP8 tinted with window tint at a local car audio shop. It is a LOT nicer now.

I wouldn’t consider not having Celsius on your bass knob “dropping the ball.” Maybe if JPs knob came first, and they didn’t put it knowing a similar amp had it sure, but it’s still not that dramatic a feature to not have. this is just JP adding slight touches to an already amazing knob.

Why? Synergy WFO 3.1 is the same Korean build and does 2x the power of this amp for less money. Same for half a dozen other Korean amps from different companies. They all get built at the same place with the same boards and components by the same people for way less money. Do yourself a favor and get something else that isn't so overpriced.

I just picked up a Crescendo Symphony S1 plus. I really wish somebody would bench it, nobody seems to have done it on KZfaq yet. Down4Sound has them.... maybe he'll send you one. The S1 and the S1 plus are pretty new amps(2018?) and also Korean made. The S1 plus is rated higher than the Salt 2 In this video and is only 500 bucks.Regular S1 is 250 or so. The owner of crescendo told me that the Symphony S1 pLus is one of their most underrated amps and puts out 3200w @1ohm instead of the rated 2500w. I would like to know if that's true. He also told me it does 2000w @2ohm and that's what I'm gonna run it at for a while. Not only is it more powerful but it's smaller than the salt as well.

That's a beautiful amp and great numbers but SALT amps stands for low voltage. What about some lower voltage tests for those of us that can't run at 14.4 or higher? I average 13.4-13.8 myself and I've done the big 3 plus 2nd agm battery and 250amp alternator

They will never do that. You'll be very disappointed in the numbers. I was getting numbers like 5300 watts for Crossfire 8k and 4100 for Sundown SCV 6k amps when not around 14.4.

I have a salt 3 got a great deal . My two choices was salt or dd . I have the ddm1 but needed more for my sundown x10s . Would love to see a dyno of salt 3 as low as it can go vs dd m4 . I did go salt but like I said a stupid good deal.

Good deal! My first 2k popped during the 0.5 ohm dynamic burst. It’s not rated to handle under 1 ohm so I didn’t harp on the matter.

I'm pretty new but love the videos. Does low voltage technology mean 14.4 voltage?

14.4 is normal voltage. So below that, 12 volts maybe? This amp seems to be designed for someone who doesn’t want to do any electrical upgrades but if you can afford an $800 amp, buying some agm’s and a high output alternator shouldn’t be a big issue. Also doing the big 3 of course

If it's advertising 'low voltage' tech of some kind, how bout testing at some low volts like 11.6 or something and see if it can still put out rated power?

Exactly bro. That's what I want to see I want to see at 12 V on a regular battery system to see it hold up. Or watch it regulate the power from 14 to 12 V. Test it for what it claims.

Considering that the ratings exceeded about 10 to 15%. That's about the same amount of voltage that is increased during the test. So it is likely that the amplifier might just barely meet rated power. But we will never know because the guy who does the test didn't test it for what the product claims to be tested at.

I've got a feeling that these videos are being rigged to lead people towards the more expensive car audio. Sundown is dieing out and will likely soon be a house brand much like fosgate and JL. Once great companies that now only come out with a new sub and amp every 8-14 years

assuming its got some circuit protection inside. to protect it / subs at below 11 volts. that seems to be the magic number when your average joe build starts smoking mosfets and blasting caps. i would have also liked to see a true 12v test or even 11v test tho for everyone battling pcm controlled voltage issues.

Never had the desire to spend that kind of money on one amplifier. I always like building budget systems that's what what I enjoyed doing when I was Building Systems. What kind of sounds can I get without spending an arm and a leg. I would end up always doing a too amplifier system. A monoblock amp running at 1 ohm to either one sub sometimes too and a four Channel amplifier running everything else. Never let the head unit run any speakers , ever that's just my builds.

I realize a dyno is totally different, but I’ve ran a salt 8 at .17 on speakers. 3 zv5 15’s D1 all 6 coils in parallel. Clamped over 12k at 33 hz. Did have to roll into some stuff or it would protect, and it got very warm. Electrical was solid. 300ah limitless lithium, 400 amp alt staying above 14 volts for roughly 1 minute demos. Eventually popped 4 mosfets. At .5-.67 on speakers I’ve never had a problem with a salt amp. Very nice line of amps. Expensive, but IMO worth it. Especially if you only have 13-14 volts.

The dynamic 0.5 pulled over 600A and the first one popped before protect circuit caught it. I was a little shocked, but it’s not rated to handle loads that low, so I didn’t feel it was a big deal. Dyno load at 0.5 is consistent, no rise at all. Brutal test.

@@wal totally understand. At .17 I was rising to .6-.7 and still blew up the amp. At .67 it rises to almost 2.

@@Van1018s how high was your voltage when that happened? When I spoke to the techs at Sundown they said not to run this amp above 15.3-15.4 volts. I’m only asking because I just bought a salt 6 and plan on running at .4 on two nightshades v4 12s

@@jasenlauver4862 and you’ll be fine. Guy on my team has 2 salt 8 at .33. Around 14 volts. They do great. Can’t burp some stuff or they protect but he can roll into anything.

My Orion bass knob is the worst I have ever had. The am is so awesome I just take it. It takes double or triple the amount of turns. I’ll be upgrading soon what do you guys suggest.?

Now that you have the quad box it would be interesting to get your feedback to know how these amplifiers perform in real time. Numbers are good and all but what about overall performance and sound quality. ?? I know its a lot of work but you have the amps already so why not make more content. I think a lot of the guys would love to know, do it really bumb though??

Brother Dwizzle, I have a serious question for you... So I have got the options to buy either a brand new orion splx3000.1 or a used/refurbished salt2k for the same price, which would you recommend 🤔 I mean the splx dyno'd over 13k and handles that nasty low impedance on the bench super tough test!

sundown have really decided it was a good time to hit the public with a big cost increase..they say they are getting hit as well.. I heard jacob or derrick on their sundown after dark show say, that since theyve moved into their new building, sales have doubled. There is not a lot of room to charge $770 in today's market for a 2k amp ... not when (though definitely not as good) D4Sounds is selling a chinese made 2.3k amp for less than 1/2 that.. just my honest opnion.. BTW.. this SALT amp is probably the worst performing of all the SALT amps Ive seen tested

I see you doing all these dyno test I was wondering if you could help I have a couple rockford Fosgate t 1000.4 ab amps and the 1 for my tower speakers on my boat is broken so looking for a replacement I am running 2 wet sounds rev410's and 2 rev 10's they can handle between 400-600 rms I was looking at the sundown salt 500.4 yet I don't know much about them. the question is would it be an upgrade from my rockford in terms of sound quality?

Agreed I have the SFB-2000 and it puts out close to as much power at 1 ohm as the salt 2 does you just can't feed it low voltage or run below 1ohm. It's a lot less forgiving but for 1/3 the price.

Sundown is kinda like the new rockford. you know you are getting what you buy and they stand behind it. but piece of mind isnt cheap.

Dustin Ericson why not just go with an audio brand you know does well that's not going to charge you an arm and a leg so they can throw huge shows and use the same parts that everyone else does. Don't compare sundown to Rockford. They're like trailer park Rockford that charges you way too much for an amp they didn't even do research and development on designing. At least Rockford gives you an original design, and they give you research and development on the product. You even get the QC sheet from the factory with Rockford that gives you an ACCURATE dyno. Sundown gives you a Korean board that's been sold under 15 different names before they put their logo and heatink on it just like skar, audiopipe,etc. Do. Do your homework. They literally got big bcs Jacob Fuller built a decent sub from parts laying around a factory and it metered high. That's all there is to it. He worked hard. He did everything he could to give the people what they wanted. But there's no reason to be charging custom made design prices for an amp that's been made in China just the same as the rest of them.

Nothing about sundowns amps or reputation says they are worth this price point over the others. You hear sundown and think Rockford? I hear sundown and think Skar
