I planted 6 slips in a 8 ft run very insignificant and harvested 88 pounds with one weighing five LBS 3 oz „Beauregard „variety those guys get BIG! We ate off it for two meals my family of 4 ….we had them in the ground from April through October …and yes they live FOREVER had five plants come up this spring on their own… great FOREVER plant to have in the garden…and they were very tender

Little ones make good fries stovetop or baked in oven. Good harvest. The bigger the better, great for pies and casseroles. Use a cake mixer it will catch most of the strings. Always trim both ends before cooking. Always cure them first. You can overwinter the small ones for slips and never buy again. You are correct, never throw any food away. Its all God's gift.

I’m from Australia kiddo. All our sweet potatoes are big like yours…. We cut ours the same..sprinkle olive oil on and toss them into a pan for half an hour… the oil helps , trust me.

We love roasted sweet potatoes. As long as we cure them at least three weeks, no problem cubing and roasting. Delicious. Our favorite way. I do pressure can them as well. Not as good but food on the shelf is better than nothing.

Hi I’m from New Zealand and like yours our Kūmara- sweet potato are also normally large. We peel them and cut into good sized chunks when this large then toss in oil and season, then roast.

That is kumara, polynesian favourite. IF it gets woody its only the outside 1cm. But they do grow quite large. Those hand size ones you said were normal are actually just young😉

Not sure which was more impressive... the footlong pounders or his guns. Good video. NOTES: - the finglerlings (smaller finger-like potatoes) are more tasty. Definitely don't toss them. - for the more "seasoned" viewers... look into container or bag growing. Results are more concentrated and you can elevate your work space. My back went into spasms just WATCHING that lad pulling roots and turning that gardening fork. Again, good video. Appreciated.

The big ones are still very good and I use a savory recipe/mashed for those instead of trying to make them into a sweet casserole. That was a very nice harvest.

The wireworms don't seem to like the Japanese reds as much as the orange ones. We always do well with them! And yes, aging them is important. I wash them then spread them on an empty countertop for a week till they darken and dry. Steaming or boiling works better for the red ones. They tend to be too dry otherwise. We had dozens of little ones, we boiled them and they were delicious!

You can take the smaller ones and mash them up and put a couple of tablespoons in biscuits, cornbread, pancakes, and soups as well. You should dig them at 100 days dead vines or not.

I recommend cooking them as sweet potato tempura Japanese style. Mix up a tempura batter and deep fry them like potato chips. Cut them potato chip style about 3mm thick slices. Good luck!

Personally I would rather grow them in some richly amended soil so the potatoes can take in all the nutrients. The more nutrient dense your potatoes are the more nutrients your body will get.

Wonderful harvest. God be praised.... The Lord will take care of His people in the time of trouble. The only thing we can store up for that time is Faith. God always takes care of His children. We have many examples of that. Take no thought for your life, what you shall eat or drink etc. Store up faith in God and do the work that God has called us to do. Hello N Central TX. here. I love this video. You and I had such a blast digging these taters. I started getting slips on my SP in the fall, started sticking them in a glass of water. That's great that you're getting back to gardening. Plant those slips as soon as the last frost is over. Amend the soil with lots of compost and work it into the soil as deep as you can so the soil is very loose, add some organic fertilizer and you're ready to plant.

I had planted one or two whole ones that were sprouting into my raised bed many years ago. I couldn't get rid of them after that, but they never produced any quality tubers, just the long thin tubes. Then 2 years ago I planted some slips in the ground and they had weevil infestation. I have the worst luck with gardening.

It's recommended to cook them at 400 degrees F for about 55 - 60 minutes.

Great job! I may have missed it but what type of sweet potatoes did you plant? I did my first bed if these this year from slips and was astonished. Still eating them in January. I also ate the greens this summer once I learned you could. Also dehydrated greens and now use in my smoothies. God bless!

You can eat the skin since you grow them yourself. Most of the nutrients are in the skin

Yes they are concrete blocks and should last forever. But they need to be repositioned now and then. I wanted something that would not rot or rust so that's why I went with concrete blocks.

The beds are amended with compost, horse manure and azomite minerals with a layer of mulched leaves on top when I planted the slips.

"Oh man, that's good!" Were these potatoes cured? I'm told "10 days at 85 degrees/90% humidity, then store at 50 degrees." But it looks like you don't really have to do that?

Here in east Texas your sweet potatoes will come up again next year because we don't really get that cold for the ground to freeze up. Not really sure if that would work up on the northern states.

There's many different varieties of sweet potatoes and all are very healthy. But try to choose a variety that has some color to it.

TO get sweet potatoes you have to plant slips to get slips you have to plant the potatoes or put them in water.

It's all personal preference on what type of sweet potatoes to get. I prefer Asian varieties such as Korean sweet potatoes. If you can't find any slips online to buy, just go to an Asian grocery store and buy the sweet potatoes there. You can grow slips from them. The texture and taste of Asian varieties are different than the typical ones grown in the US. I would recommend you go buy different types and eat them to see which types you like before trying to grow them.

Japanese sweet potatoes, or satsumaimo in Japanese, they are reddish-purple skin and pale yellow to white flesh. Mine are red skin with white flesh. Delicious 😋

Sweet potatoes like a bigger area for growing, regular potatoes do well in a container but not sweet potatoes.

When I train, I train hard. The first three months of lifting is the most crucial because that's when your body produces the most testosterone and that's when you get the most gains. After that it's a slow but steady gains.
