0:00 Sweet Tooth Netflix Introduction
0:56 Season One Recap And Comic Book Differences
6:12 Sweet Tooth Ending Explained
8:26 Comic Book Spoilers and Season 2 Theories
11:40 Sweet Tooth Season 1 Review
Ok so Sweet Tooth has just dropped on Netflix and the graphic novel adaptation has a lot going on with it. The comic is definitely up there as one of the best pieces in the medium to come out in the last twenty years and due to it tackling ideas like the pandemic, prejudice and coming together no matter the odds, it definitely feels more relevant now than when it was first released.
In this video we're gonna be breaking down the plot of the show, explaining it's ending and going over the comic book differences with a fine tooth comb. If you've read the source material then you'll know there's some major changes but the ending of the season does sort of hint to where things could be going in the future.
From here on out it's full spoilers ahead so if you haven't had a chance to check it out then I highly recommend that you check out now. Smash the thumbs up button if you enjoy the video and don't forget to subscribe for breakdowns like this each and every day.
With that out the way, welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show, I'm your host Paul, now let's get into Sweet Tooth.
Ok so for the first part of the video I will be recapping the plot of Sweet Tooth in chronological order. If you're watching this to make it interesting I will be throwing in the comic book changes but if you wanna skip ahead to see us talk about
Now episode Seven starts off at the earliest point in the series with us watching a dig all the way out in the Artic. We learn that this is being carried out by a research team from Fort Smith that are trying to find a way to cure diseases. The team have a breakthrough when attempting to create a miracle vaccine and manage to create a hybrid animal child named Gus who's a cross between a deer and human.
Unfortunately at the lab a deadly virus is released that's referred to in the show as The Great Crumble and this wipes out a vast majority of humanity.
Since then every child born on Earth is a hybrid and there exists a large group of people referred to as The Last Men that believe the cure for the virus is locked within their genes. Thus they are willing to hunt down and exterminate the children in order to return the world back to the way things were and they become the big antagonists in the piece.

Whoa. How about this CERN = 48 in GEMATRIA same as CERNUNNOS = 48 CERNunnos is the celtic god of the Underworld that CERN (large hadron collidor that connects both France and Switzerland) received its name from. Amd its weird how Sweet Tooth , this apocolyptic show which cause hybrids to be born hmm.. And happens to be trending #1 in the world now.. Crazy how the lead character in the movie also symbolizes CERNUNNOS. Also match INTERNET which also = to 48 in GEMATRIA ( what the freemasons use to communicate. Wake up people! numbers and symbols run the world. UNIVERSAL LAW = they have to tell you what they're gonna do to you in movies before it happens. PREDICTIVE PROGRAMMING!!.) Now could this be signs of the grid shut down ? Have 33 countries spent $10B, hired 10,000 scientists to secretly recreate an ancient egyptian stargate? Or " Wormhole" .? was the idea for movies such as contact, Hellboy and Stargate Sg-1 birthed from their plan to build a modern day stargate? Is their stated goal to recreate the big bang and to find the "Higgs Boson" for something more sinister? Will the 17 mile Large Hadron Collider (LHC) built 574 feet under Switzerland and France open a door to another world? Could the Large Hadron Collider be causing the strange sounds covering entire cities many square miles in size? Could it be causing earthquakes and volcanoes to awaken like the many recent ones we've been having? Some scientists fear it could easily open a wormhole, or create a black hole and destroy this planet! Muslims are looking for their Mahdi or 12th Imam to lead Islam to world domination. They claim he will arise from a well either in Iraq or Iran .. Scientists have built this collider at CERN, but CERN is not just a word, is it short for CERNnunnos an occult which half-man half-beast which arises out of the earth? Prophecy says "The beast" will "ascend out of the bottomless pit". Will the LHC open a door allowing entrance into our world?

i doubt it. it looks like a cheap show compare to Jupiters Legacy which they just cancelled. CGI and even prosthetics are not even that impressive and i think thats intentional so the chances of this being renewed is far better than the more expensive series Netflix have. With respect to the darker, intense original source material, I really appreciate that light touch Netflix and the Downey's have given the show. I know purist will feel like its a Disneyesque rewrite but its made all the horrible bleakness much more palatable.

agreed.. the original feels like a deep well that just gets darker and darker as it goes the road they actually took has just the right mix of light and dark to pull you up when things seem too bleak to show you that hope that light at the end of the tunnel instead of just more darkness.. i think that if they took the full source material 1 to 1 i would have stopped halfway trough because it would have brought my own emotional state down too much.. but now it's the right balance to actually keep it up and make it enjoyable

Agreed. I think with how prevalent the themes of the show are to what’s happening today. I think giving it a more childlike hopeful take was the right call. Spoilers, of course. A plot point has me puzzled: The syringes with red liquid. How did Pubba get some, and why did Abbot use one on Dr Bell? Birdie hands Gus to Richard/Pubba, apparently the night that the sick is released. They probably never contacted each other for fear of being followed. Richard & Gus arrive at Yellowstone just as the hybrid births start, meaning it's nine months that Richard has cared for Gus and prepared do hide. Richard did not have much access in the lab; he was a janitor/handyman. But he had a box with several of these syringes. How did he get them and know what they were? When he used one defending Gus, the attacker SCREAMED. When Abbot used one on Dr Bell, she SCREAMED too, indicating that it is the same stuff. Obviously, Abbot like revenge and letting his men know what happens to traitors, but how did he know what that stuff is? What is it? By the way, anybody who claims that Gus being the result of a lab experiment was a plot twist was not paying attention. Again, Pubba's clearly marked box of painful death told us the situation in episode 1. This from a guy who misses every bit of foreshadowing. I did miss his name tag, but you couldn't miss that box. Oh, one more. Why did Pubba have that box, but no firearms?

Hey, another thing to keep in mind is that there are lot of Easter eggs and references to other work by Jeff lamire in the TV show. Like for example the show has this subplot with flowers in it. And this might be an omaj to a Jeff lamir book called Trillium in which flowers are a key component in the psychedelic trips that astronauts go on in the story arc. Another reference to a Jeff Lamire book Is that the town in the in Colororado is called Essex That is a reference to Essex County which is a 3 part story series that Jeff lamir put out several years ago. Essex is also a reference to the City Jeff Lamire grew up in. Essex is in Canada.

I loved it. I binged it in one day which is something I would usually never do. It grabbed me from the start with the fairytale style narration, the lovely lighting, cinematography and the absolutely adorable baby Gus (not quite as cute as Grogu but close :):). Something you didn’t mention here is the music. The soundtrack is spot on and each episode contains a song that acts as a sort of tonal commentator. The use of Dirty Paws by Of Monsters and Men was perfect. After that, I knew the creators of this series knew what they were doing. And the acting - fabulous especially young Christian Convery who plays 11 year old Gus. I’m looking forward to a series 2 but if they haven’t already filmed it, the the actors playing Wendy and Gus will look too old.

Really appreciate it that they didn't straight up went to darker version of the story like in the original source and that made a more room for upcoming seasons. Ps. Didn't know why some people hate the actors. I thought they were perfect for the role and very likable.

I think the young man we see with Gus, Wendy, and the other kids during the group hug is Jepp’s kid. Although he doesn’t resemble his counterpart from the book, he does look similar in appearance to the baby when Jeppard first seems him in the hospital

i haven't read the comics beforehand but when watching because we find out big man has a son i think the boy seen at 9:35 is probably his son.. when you look at the brief shot you see of the baby it adds up. though i have no clue what he's supposed to be.. at first seeing the baby i thought maybe he was a sheep or a goat

100% agree. Was worried it would be simplified or sanitized too much, but really loved what they did. I think season 2 (and further) could get darker (not as dark as the comic), but darker.

having not read the series, i find sweet tooth to be a serious breath of fresh air in the apocalypse genre. the theme of hope with the punch of bright colors is wonderful despite the tragedies it relays. it's even better knowing the author is the one behind the changes and i agree with his take on the genre's current state. can't wait for season 2

I don't know why but this series really reminded me of Roberto Benigni's "Life is Beautiful", where a father tries to preserve his son happiness and innocence while inside a concentration camp. The show really deals with hope and hopelesenes, innocence and guilt in such a strong and refreshing way.

As someone who hasn't read the comics but LOVES strange shows, I think this show would have been about 90% better if they stuck to the old adage "show don't tell" and left the narrator portions at start and end of episodes out. I mean really... what does he do for the story except break the surrealism of the show!

The show took some elements from comic series #1-40 and they made the other majority part by their own story telling in a lot more light hearted with adventurous tone and giving meaning of life and to never look down upon anyone be it hybrid and the H5G9 virus theme perfectly utilised in the show giving Covid 19 scenario vibes the ending was a big cliffhanger of Birdie picking up phone can't wait for season 2 my ratings for season 1 9.5/10 👍👍👍👍

I THINK (edited for those who don't respect others' opinions) the show was great, and the changes don't ruin it. I think it should do well and get a 2nd season. Great review and explanation, as always. I THINK Jupiter Legacy's pacing was awful. I read a comment from a comic book reader who said 1-2 pages of the comic was taking an entire episode. Also, the fight scenes were awful.
