This is so good!! Definitely sharing. One thing I thought of to add is that if you point the mic toward the speaker that creates the feedback. So whether the monitor is on the floor, or there is a speaker to the side of the stage (smaller gigs) avoid facing the cone of the mic towards the cone of the speaker.

I spent many years trying to hear myself and I finally got in-ear monitors. Now I just tell the sound engineer to cut the stage monitors, and I listen to my own mix. It takes some getting used to because you can feel a bit disconnected from the room mix, but I can still hear the crowd. Now my biggest challenge is to be more graceful and not get tangled up with the mic cable catching on other gear ( like the mic stand or keyboard stand) I could get a wireless mic, but it's one more thing to charge and connect 🤔 and I have seen singers run out of battery halfway through a song

Thanks! Surprisingly the Senheisser manual says about 2” from mouth to mic. Could be different case for professional singers like him. Maybe different school of thought depending on singers. I’m a newbie sound guy mixing for foh, I advise my singers to keep close when engaged in singing for consistency with what has been gain staged during sound check. Our singers all have mic stand. If you have 4 singers imho it will be more difficult to fader ride all at same time when they keep moving away from mic.

Senn has more boost than Sure mikes that most Americans (and the world) are using. Sure sm55 or such is very neutral and needs more work. Senn does a lot of work for you. However, if you are solo, pro-singer on stage, everything he said applies.

Hi , I have a question in regards to gain levels for dynamic mics .. I use a sennheiser 835 and 935 .. I have a really hard time getting the gain levels correct .. if I use higher gain I’m able to pull away from the mic and sing lower but i feel like the mics are so sensitive you hear every single thing including every lip smack which sucks .. if I lower the gain and raise the volume it’s a bit better but I have to be right up on the mic .. I’m sure some of my problem is technique but can anyone recommend anything to help me ? I just do acoustic songs .. I’m just trying to dial this in bc I find I’m more worried about this and not sounding bad than actually playing .. thank you for the help!

Thanks for reaching out! You’re right in that most of those issues can be minimized with technique. Working on different breathing techniques and vocal pronunciation/agility practices will help with this. Practice singing your parts, isolate what words/sections you notice these issues, and try out slight variations with how you sing them and how you breathe throughout the part. Those Sennheiser mics are great, but ultimately if the mic is too sensitive for your singing style it might be good to test out some other less sensitive/softer mics like the SM58. Hopefully this helps! Connor Smith, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1793, connor_smith@sweetwater.com

Don't point the back of the mic directly at the monitors if it's a hyper or super cardioid. They are sensitive directly behind the capsule.

good video, but starting to look dated for the one reason of the scene with the mask. We all lived through that and I am so glad it is behind us. This is helpful information for vocalists. Unfortunately, your presentation is marred by plosives due to failure to use a pop filter with this implosive-sensitive mic. Another commenter referred to this problem as sibilance.

Which one is better between At2035 and AKG p420? Specifically for Female Alto vocals. Hoping to receive your valuable suggestion.
@danielnaron
@danielnaron 3 жыл бұрын
Well, that's more of a matter of taste and budget. Both are great and have similar performance with a $50 difference. The 2035 has less exaggerated highs that reduce sibilance and less bass compared to the P420, but maybe you'd want to keep that slightly more bass response from the P420 so your vocal has more body than just air. Hope this helps Compare it here: app.audiotestkitchen.com/sessions/5fd225968ad2f2229be06f0c/frequency-curves?song=5c4281466b9a62213cf7e077&instrument=5c4283316b9a623b8df7e07f
