I do love trying a new shelling location but there's always that chance that it will be a bust. Luck was in my favor, so this new shelling location is going to be a place that I plan on returning to many times in the future!

My 11 year old daughter is being granted a trip from Make-A-Wish after beating brain cancer. She chose Florida for a sea shell hunting adventure! We wanted to stay on Sanibel but were guided to Marco Island because of hurricane repairs. Anywho, after she decided where our adventure would be, we found your channel and have watched every week! We love all the information! We can't wait to find beach treasure and put our toes in the sand. Headed south on Saturday from WA state!

Dearest Beach Friend. You and I have a lot more in common than you know. My daughter was also a Make-A-Wish recipient and she chose to go on a Disney Cruise! That was well before I knew how amazing seashells are, but as luck would have it we did get to go snorkeling with sea turtles. My daughter was 7 when diagnosed and 10 when she finished her treatment. She is now 22 and she is awesome! I can only imagine the relief you must be feeling!!!! Marco Island is fabulous and I'm sure you'll have a great time. A lot of Marco has high rise buildings right on the beach, so if you want more of that "wild Florida" feeling, go to the North end of Marco Island and visit Tigertail. It's beautiful! Please tell your little warrior that I personally am sending you both the best seashell finding luck ever!!! 💪🏻🐚❤️

@SWFBeachLife well, I was not expecting that response! You know exactly how I'm feeling. I can't wait for my little family to just *be* for a whole week. No appointments, no therapies. I'm happy to hear your daughter is doing well after treatment. ❤️ We are staying south on the island but plan to venture to Tigertail and Sanibel.

Hello, Beach Angel! So good to hear your sweet voice! I don't remember ever hearing you talk about this park, but I can hardly wait! Wentletraps!? Yay! So many tinies! They're so beautiful in their miniscule perfection! I should have named you Hawkeye, my dear friend! I'll brt you'd be great at washing gravel to find gemstones! I'll take you to North Carolina one day and let you try that! Quid pro quo! That's a gorgeous lace murex! It will clean up nicely, I hope! That little dove snail is so wonderful! That the Lord of the sea should create an infinitesimal shell like the dove shell just because He wanted to make us happy is so wonderful! I'm sure He is laughing for joy at your delighted voice! Enter the wentletraps! What a great thing they are! Ooh, that is such a pretty flyspeck cerith! I think I could watch you pick up tinies all day! Is it the underwater topography and the currents that make one end of the island so different from the other? Wow, that pier stretched way out there! It's going to take a lot of time and money to repair that, for sure! Ian really did a good job of tearing the place up. Even our local newspapers have run stories about the damage you all recorded. They're calling it the hurricane of the century. I hope you folks never see another one that powerful and as destructive! We (Jimmy Buffett and all of us devoted Parrotheads) will always call those sharp little pieces of metal pop tops! I remember when my kid sister stepped on some broken glass one night when we were walking in the moonlight on Pensacola Beach. I carried her piggyback all the long way back to my little cottage! God bless you for picking up so much broken glass! You've saved someone a really bad beach experience! Love to all of my beachy friends and to you, my dearest Beach Angel, from Rebecca, the Lost Mermaid. 🧜‍♀️ ❤

Like crowned conchs, it seems the wentletraps prefer a "bay-like" environment so I tend to find them in the shadows on the "points" of the islands. And I'm with you - if I never have to evacuate a hurricane again that would be super! My sister cut her foot too once year as a kid when we were on vacation in Ocean City, NJ. I never knew such wonderful seashells could be found at the beach. For me it's like discovering a whole new world that I never knew existed. And boy does that world make me happy!!! Thank you for coming along with me!!!! 🙏🏼

WOW!!! That was a thrilling outing!! A lot of different shells, Shar. All those Murex reminded me of a TV show I saw this past week about Solomon's mines and how they made the purple dye called Tyrian. It was made just for royalty and the wealthy because they were the only ones who could afford it. Have you heard of it, Shar? They make it from the gland of the Murex sea snail.from the Mediterranean Sea. It takes 100 pounds of Murex snails to create 1 gram of the Tyrian dye. These snails are edible so nothing goes to waste. It hurt my heart to watch them make it but I also found it very fascinating. Ohhh,.. and I think the Cockle beach bowls look like huge Owl eyes. Is that weird or can you see it too? Thank you again for taking me along on another intriguing adventure. It was fun trying out a new beach! You're amazing...50 lbs. of garbage taken care of. Hooray for you!! I'm really impressed with the wentletraps (and the fact that you said coffee "grounds" Twice, even 😊.) I have a question about them, though: are they always white? I'm presuming that, but do you know? Thanks you for another treat at the end of the weekend!!

There is a brown banded wentletrap that has brown stripes, but most of them are a white or a creamy white color. Was that you that kept corrupting me with the grinds/grounds? I think I might have FINALLY retrained myself to say it correctly 🤣

@@SWFBeachLife Thank you for the color info about wentletraps. I found a couple of white ones in France a couple of years ago. But "corrupting" you with the grinds/ grounds?😂😂😂Well, yes, it was me "correcting" you. You got it right both times in the video!! I truly don't intend to be critical. When I got home I put water into my tiny container and I let them sit. Just soaking took care of most of the gunk. If there was still some "Stuff" in there I would probably try a bleach soak to see if that would take care of it. 24 hours should do it.

I do not carry anything other than my camera. My shell bag is slung over my shoulder so I normally put the trash in my shell bag and separate it out when I get home. Unless it's a very bag garbage day, then I have a separate garbage bag and I weigh the garbage before I throw it out.
What will you find on a shell tour? Kice Island beach treasures found!
