In this video, I go over the specs of the Swiff Audio Wireless Guitar System (the WS-50 or the Blackwing). This is a cool, cheap, plug and play wireless that is NOT on 2.4ghz or even 5.8ghz. I definitely recommend it, and it's only $50-$60, so it's a great deal.

Thanks for your very detailed comparison and inspiration to me. The Swiff system is amazing, dead silent without any noise or dropout again. I highly recommend it to all my friends now.

Thanks for the great videos regarding these assorted wireless doo-hickies. After playing guitar for 50+ years in almost every live situation you can imagine, I recently decided to cut the cord and go wireless. Looking at the endless myriad of these things on Amazon, your vids have been invaluable and after watching this one in particular, I've decided that this is the product to go with and I've just ordered up. I bought these in May of 2020 and my friends thought I was nuts because they had never heard of it. But I analyze things and don't just buy what everyone else has. When I checked the product specs I liked what I saw and decided there would be no interference issue at almost anywhere I could imagine. I have played for 4.5 hours and still had battery life left on the indicator mark it was at light #2 which is half. But it's feasible that the battery life was about to jump to the next level lower. Anyway, I have not had one drop out or noise of any kind. Use it on electric and acoustic-electric and it is as reliable and good sounding as any cable. I only wish the device that plugs into the guitar was smaller. But they are all relatively large and in time I'm sure like everything it will get smaller. :-)

I've had the Lekato ws-50 (5.8 GHz) for just over a year and never had a problem, however, I HAVE forgotten to charge them and had to fall back to a cable because of that. I like the idea of buying these for redundancy and having the option to try a different band if I ever do have issues. Great advice!

Aloha brutha!🏝Great vids! I’ve bought 3 pairs of this wireless system over 1yr. I love them! Why 3 sets? Broke one sitting down w/unit not snug to guitar (PRS)…broke a 2nd tripping on receiver attached to my Headrush…broke the 3rd same way I broke the 1st one! Lol! Then, I took parts from all 3 orphaned pairs and rebuilt into 2 working pairs! Plus I reversed the plug on the transmitters so now I can easily check the charge indicators…plus the “on” button now faces out which I think looks wayye cooler! 🤙🏽 one of the solder joints was hanging by only 1 thread of wire (which explained why that unit was so scratchy!) …now strong like bull!🦾😎

Hi Scott I ordered this and recieved it today. I was hoping it would be different than the swiff ones but I encountered the same exact problem I mentioned before. The notes that cut out are sounding like they were highly compressed when they're picked hard and like I mentioned before it only happens on the neck pickup. I'm returning it and will be exchanging it for the Rowin 2.4g one.

I have to assume the Lekato, is the same as the Westshell wireless G7 that is on lightning deal today...and also the Swiff WS-70 model. This is good and bad. The good being that all brands review really well...the bad being that I just ordered the Westshell (since it was on lightning deal) but then realized the Lekato (@ $42) has a 15% off coupon, and the Swiff is $42 with an 8% coupon...thus making the Westshell the most expensive of all 3 despite the lightning deal. Well, if you want to add the Lekato to your collection, now is the time to do it.

@@affordabletechsolutions6917 funny you should say that. I just found this video after getting my westshell G7's this week. Also, our band's wireless mic system runs on UHF frequencies, so we'll see if there is any interference in that aspect.

I think you have an excellent perspective on wireless systems. I, too, have a Shure for important gigs, but 99% of the time, I use these cheaper systems. In particular, I use the Blackwing (probably originally named BlackWang :-) ) I bought it based on your recommendation. I wanted to note that the first one I received had to be returned, because the jack on the receiver was wobbling in the housing. Otherwise, the system has been stable, and I've never had a dropout. So thanks mucho not just for the reviews, but especially for your thoughts on tone and th use of cheaper systems.

Thanks for the vid! I just picked up 2 here in Aus to experiment with: it's winter here and I want to record on my DAW closer to the fire, but my Eurorack setup is waaaay over there 4M away where it's cold! The main thing for me was the latency. If these work well, I might pick up another 2 sets just cos I love 'mobility' so much... even pick up a decent adapter and plug 'jack headphones' into the monitoring for the interface so I can still wander around (bluetooth and RF headphones have too much latency)

Thanks for doing a review on UHF systems. I've been out of music for almost 20 years, but was invited to play a set at jazzfest in New Orleans in early May. At 67, it's probably the last real show I'll ever play, so I accepted the offer and pulled out my old Precisions and bought some strings. I was a wireless guy, but no longer have the old system I did in the early 90s. It never worked anywhere in Atlanta, Denver, NY, DC, or some other larger cities in the States or Europe. A little research suggested that 2.4 might not be the optimal frequency to use if I don't want to be tethered. This video helps a lot. THANK YOU!! Sounds like UHF is the way to go.

Thanks for the tip and review Scott! By the way I mentioned I liked the Boss for its durability. One drawback I forgot to mention about the Boss was that it may not work well with sunken tele type input jacks. I had to use a washer on one to get it to activate. The Swiff sounds like a good purchase.
@ScottUhlMusic
@ScottUhlMusic 3 жыл бұрын
Between the two of these just for build quality and battery life and stuff like that, the boss wins for sure. But this one is about 1/3 the price, and not on 2.4ghz which makes it the winner for me. You are correct on the fact that I like when the wireless doesn’t just stick straight out of the guitar. It looks a little ugly IMO. Glad you enjoyed the video 🤘 If you do end up getting this one, let me know your thoughts on it compared to the Boss one

Nice job! Just started to get interest in wireless systems. Great advise from someone who actually has used the systems, not just test the systems. FYI; 2.4hz is also used with home wireless telephones, R/C cars, planes, some adapted to control model outdoor electric & live steam trains, & drones (which are bring used more & more for filming). 5.8hz is in up scale & newer wireless home telephones .

Yup, 2.4ghz is even more crowded with all of those other things as well. I understand why companies make them because they are universally accepted around the world. But that makes it very crowded

I've been using wireless for yrs. 1st with a garbage Nady system then switched to AKG wireless bug system. I went a little crazy and bought 7 different bug set ups. All on different frequencies. The 1 I use the most now has a 2 AAA battery powered receiver and a regular 1 AAA battery for the bug transmitter. That goes to my pedalboard and coming out is a Getaria 5.8 system. I've used these all over with both electric and acoustic/electric guitars. Through amps, P A's, D I boxes. On the beach, in churches with their own wireless systems working, at an outside church with just an acoustic guitar and a keyboard plugged into a rechargeable P A speaker. Everything always sounds real good. Enough to where 1 church guitarist bought 1 of my bug systems and the keyboard guy bought Getaria system for himself.

Love your videos and learn much from them. One thing, though....I use various stringed instruments at home and so leave them on a stand. For me, it was necessary to make sure the units had an on/off switch so I wouldn't have to unplug them from the instruments all the time. I didn't notice this on the Swiff unit--I wonder if you can turn them off while in the instruments. Outstanding comparison....your method of testing reminds me a bit of Project Farm, one of my favorites.

I saw an ad for the CFG (Cable Free Guitar) C-01 which got me searching for reviews where I found both of your great videos. Thank you for those! They were both very informative. The C-01 is the newly upgraded model to CFG’s A8 wireless system, which incorporates the swivel design that the A8 didn’t have. The A8 is currently on sale for $49.90 (normally $100) and the C-01 is on sale for $74.90 (normally $150). My question about these two units regards frequency. On their website it says both utilizes UHF 730MHz. How does this work with the ranges you have indicated in this video? Thanks, again, for you straight-forward, informative videos! Keep them coming!

730mhz technically is "not allowed" to be used in the USA. 470-600mhz or 900-928mhz are the legal UHF frequencies

I think the wireless from Swiff seems great the only thing I don't really care for is the green color on it but, not like I would really see it when I would be playing anyway. Picked up a set of these to try out a few days ago. The reviews here and elsewhere were mixed regarding compatibility with active pickups but I figured for $50 it was worth a shot. They worked flawlessly with passives, but unfortunately did not play well at all with my active pickup guitar (EMG 81/85 @9v). When I first plugged in and strummed a few chords it sounded OK so I had high hopes, but as soon as I started playing anything that involved aggressive low string palm muting it started cutting out. My best guess going off what I was hearing through my speakers is that there's some sort of gate in the system that gets hit only when chugging away with higher output actives. If I rolled off the volume pot on the guitar and/or played with a VERY light touch I could get it to go away. I think that's where some of the confusion on whether or not these work with actives comes from. If you have a lower output active system and/or play a style of music that has little to no palm muting these may work. If you're using EMGs or the equivalent doing aggressive metal or metal-adjacent stuff these probably aren't for you. They're 3x the price and on a different frequency band, so it's not a direct comparison, but FWIW the NU-X C5-RC has worked flawlessly with my actives and anything else I've plugged it into. And thanks Scott for all the info on this channel. Seriously helpful!

After fully charging units I plugged in my Bedell with a B-Band preamp on board, and got a whistle through amp if I wasn't touching the send unit. Being more scientificly minded, I first changed from the Kustom PA-50 to the Fishman mini, still there. I then plugged in my Ovation and no problem, same with the Ovation 12 string . First let me say thanks for good videos and helping us people understand the equipment. With that said I have a question/issue and am reaching out…this is pertaining to wireless guitar in specific the Swifi. Allow me to elaborate…..I am primarily a metal/hard rock player. The 80s is when I grew up….lol the decade of decadence….now I use a couple of super strats, I.e. Floyd rose and high gain pick ups etc. I set things down 15 years ago when my children started coming along….this past year I have gotten back in and have been playing for around 40 years total….these days it’s just at the house for myself….I run my amp into a mixing board and into a headphone amp…it sounds killer blah blah blah. After seeing these cheap wireless units I decided I wanted one and your videos helped me to choose the Swifi I experience no drop outs, range is great, no tonal issues that I can hear…but… I have a gain loss is the best way I can describe it. I run my amp around 70-75 percent gain and with the high gain pups…well it’s a face melting tone. So let just lay out an example….when using guitar to 1/4 inch cable to amp….when I’m noodling up on the 12-14 frets and bend or hold a note…for simplicity let’s say that note goes for 8 seconds around 5-6 seconds it goes sonic…meaning it’s the point when the vibration through the pups go into naturally harmonics not volume feedback but high gain harmonic…..killerness!!!! Now when I use the Swifi ….it feels like I have cut the gain down 30% say from 75 to 45….and at that 5-6 second mark the note dissipates it’s not the noise gate altogether it does resemble that and I don’t understand this. Now on the other spectrum I can use the Swifi on the headphones/record out of the amp to my mixer and it sounds normal with no loss of anything tone gain volume nothing…..it is killer….any ideas
@ScottUhlMusic
@ScottUhlMusic Жыл бұрын
Yeah some people have said these cheaper ones give them a gain loss or a noise gate with metal stuff. That’s unfortunately part of the risk with these cheap ones. Try it with your setup, if it doesn’t work return it and try another one is the best advice I’ve come up with for it. Hope that helps!

But I’m ok with it because I started using this from out of the record out to my board and preforms just fine…so I think I will try another one anyway to see if it is ok for the guitar and if it has issues I will have a return period…no harm no fowl….maybe that lekato ws 70 that you seem to like

Thanks for all the great videos on wireless devices, I've think I've watched most if not all of them (and subscribed too). I wanted to go wireless and ended up selecting this Swiff WS-50. Once I started using it, the background hiss/hum was very obtrusive whenever sound was ringing out (it's quiet when not playing), and I also started experiencing dropouts (sitting 5 ft away). None of these issues happen with my cable. FWIW, I have a Fender Player strat with a Fender Mustang GTX-100 amp (home use). I tried changing channels, re-orienting the units, etc, but this system is unusable for me. Let me know if any other thoughts, I really wanted to like this system but I'll likely be returning it, unfortunately.
@ScottUhlMusic
@ScottUhlMusic 2 жыл бұрын
First of all, thank you for your comment. Seriously. You described in detail what happened, and said “I might be returning it, but what options to I have.” That is SO refreshing from the usual “this $50 wireless is pure BS… didn’t go over 200 feet at all!” comments that I usually get when someone has a problem with it. So seriously, thank you lol. It could be a defective unit. Especially since you are getting dropouts only 5 feet away. Does it happen in multiple locations? Keep in mind these cheaper wireless have less available channels to find a clear signal (part of why they are so cheap). So it could just be that you are in a crowded environment. For the buzz, are you using any sort of fuzz pedal or anything? I’m always direct, and I use this with my GTRS guitar or with an HX Stomp, so I’m very minimal in my set up and I never have a buzz with these. But sometimes these cheaper ones do not play nice with all setups.

@@ScottUhlMusic Very impressed with the Swiff WS-50 with my 5 string active bass. Handles highs, lows and slaps no problem even with the active circuit cranked up. It's a bit larger than the Xvive but the main thing is no popping / drop outs (so far). And it costs less than the Xvive. Once gigging resumes I can give it a proper road test. I also bought a Lekato WS-70 mentioned by another poster. Operation and size is similar to the Swiff but, there is a very slight baclground hiss which isn't there with cable, the Xvive or the Swiff. You probably wouldn't notice it live but on the studio desk, I could just hear it. Another thing I noticed with the Lekato was when i turned them on and they were pairing, occasionally my WiFi router would hiccup. Maybe the Lekato were channel hunting in the 5G wifi band? I bought the Swiss for use at church. it's pretty good but sometimes, and not all the time, it seems to have a little bit of delay in the attack, and I think a little noise. But with an eq in the circuit I can get a good stable and clean signal.

I remember back in the day most stuff ran on VHF which was the 'busy' network and then they started putting out wireless that ran on UHF which almost nothing was running on so it seemed to work well,but I personally never had an issue with VHF either so I never bought one.

I definitely trust UHF over 2.4 right now for sure. I’ve had much more success with those!

I honestly don’t know. I did end up getting the ws70 from Lekato (it looks exactly the same, so I believe they sold it to them or something). But it works great as well!
