Well, if one considered Michael Phelps’s shiny World Record in the 200m fly untouchable, then what about Cesar Cielo’s blast from Rome 2009, 46.91 in a full-body rubber suit which was a premium aide for the sprinters?
Yesterday, Phelps’ mark was gone, while today Caeleb Dressel rocketed to an amazing win in the 100m free at the FINA World Championships 2019 in Gwangju and almost chased down the WR, clocking 46.96 - just 0.05 shy of the all-time best effort.

The whole race was actually there, dressel's 25m-45m was actually too fast to pick up for the camera. To be fair, fina could've invested in high speed camera's, but that's a lot to ask + they would've had to predict dressel's 46.9

I think Dressel will go all out tomorrow to break Filho's wr. He has just broken Phelps's 100m fly today with a stunning new wr : 49.50. Unlike today, 50m free will take place before 100m fly. So we can expect another stunning performance from the superstar after swam 21.18 today in semi final.

@@jamescaldwell7396 As it looks right now, Chalmers has absolutely no chance of ever beating the 50 world record (as you can see his start is way too slow, he's more of a back-half swimmer, and his PB is 22.15), but yes, he could certainly challenge Cielo's 100 record come Tokyo, assuming Dressel doesn't get there first.

James Caldwell I can see Chalmers will set 46.89 to break Filho's wr if he improves his start. But meanwhile, if Dressel improves his last 50m, he can set 46.85 or so, hence gold medal will still go to the superstar.
