Pool tiles begin to crack after sometime has passed, and most of them just simply break apart due to the force put on them by stepping; your only approach to a repair like this is to remove those damaged times and begin to plan for repair.
Replacing the times may be your most permanent solution rather than just repairing them with grout like some people do to save time and also to save some money too.
When you tiles simply crack without breaking, you may get away with a repair method rather then a replacement; if your budget allows it though just change them instead.

I began this swimming pool tile repair project with removing all the cracked times first. I then continued into carefully cleaning my surface area. Doing the cleanup will allow the thin-set to stick stronger due to its dry clean surface.
The smart approach here is to remove the grout in between good and bad tiles first, that way when you get ready to chisel the cracked tile out it does not damage the good one next to it; do this step with a flat tool to fit perfectly in between the two.
When you have all the tiles removed, and you also have the surface areas cleaned; you may now lay the thin-set across the surface and after the tiles side by side using the spacers. When you have giving the thin-set at least 1 hour to cure, you may now grout the tile lines and also after at least 15 minutes you may then wipe the dried grout with a wet Sponge.

We had some pool tiles pop off during the Texas freeze 2021, our only damage so far. Pool repairs are backlogged, but I am confident I can do the repair myself. Beautiful result, Alain! Excellent instruction! Thank you!

Great video, I have a couple of tiles that have pushed out from behind, I guess maybe the concrete shifted a little bit or expanded and pushed them out, they are still partially on. I’m not sure what pushed it out but hopefully when I chisel I’ll be able to get it nice and flat. Thanks for making this great video.

I do tile professionally , 20 years however I have never worked on pools. Now that I have a home with a pool, this year we opened the cover to discover tiles had come off. We dropped the water level well below all tile last fall. We did not buy an automatic pool cover pump which turns on automatically. There was a lot of water from Winter that built up and the froze on the cover. My guess is the weight of the ice and water on the cover pushed down and the pool water rose up underneath because of the weight on top. This cased a freeze thaw situation which popped the tile off. I wont make that mistake this year and I will buy the automated pump. I am a little concerned with using customs speed set in this application as I have heard Granny Rapid is better for pool and outdoor Situations. Isn't a situation where thin set mixed with water can have problems outdoors and cause a freeze thaw situation? There are also much better chemical resistant grouts than normal sanded grout especially the polyblend grout. I would think Quartz grout would be better or Mapei Ultra color FA ? Would love your feed back as I am now looking for the best materials to make sure my repair is going to last. This is a gunite pool about 13 years old.

hi. thanks for stopping by. you had great points as to which product to used. one thing I learned is that depending on the water. salt or regular. also depending on if the pool is screened in or opened. there are different types of materials for different enviroments. i can't suggest specific one considering how many options there are at the store. i do recommend when yo uare ready use customs products. go with a grout and a thinset you can mix in yourself rather than already mixed. this will allow for a fresh application rather than a sitting on a shelve wet product. always go with the professional grade as these are special chemicals for long lasting.

I would have used white thinset and undercut the waterline tile and the scum gutter tile would have made removing a breeze no flat blade by a pool ever alos pool looks like it has a lot of copper staining nice job end result 👍

What's the difference between Custom SpeedSet and E-Z Patch 3? E-Z Patch 3 is marketed as pool tile cement, but does it have any significant differences?
@MasterMindHandyMan
@MasterMindHandyMan 3 жыл бұрын

Do you need to seal the grout
@MasterMindHandyMan
@MasterMindHandyMan 4 жыл бұрын
yes. the steps shown on the video are to be followed. first you use the thinset to stick the tile onto the wall. once 30 minutes at least have passed then grout it. after 15 minutes or less then wipe down the grout before it fully dries.

How do you clean up all the grout you have floating in the pool now?
@MasterMindHandyMan
@MasterMindHandyMan 4 жыл бұрын
that is a great point of concern. I personally did my best to not allow much to fall into the pool. however the small portion that does is normal. the solutions of the pool, just like the sweat of people. will eventually clean it. besides that though I had the pool guy scheduled to come in after me and cleanup the pool before opening on monday. If you do not have such person to cleanup after, then of course go in and pickup as much as possible to minimize the grout from disolving.

Bubble wrap works really well taped under the tile line as it floats on the water and allows you to catch most of the debris
@oldkid6

why didn't you show the actual work on the tile? i hear you explaining what you're going to do, then you just skip to the edit of the finished work. do you know what i'm talking about? it's like saying look at my very dirty car, then you talk about how to wash a car, then skipping all the washing part, edit to a clean car....look, we're done.

my apologies for now spending 3 hours showing step by step. i am new with youtube and videos plus running a business so doing the best I can. I figured if explaining it then showing it done gives the viewer a sense of what I said. the idea is to guide you not to do it for you. thanks for the feedback and will take that into consideration on future videos.
