SWIMMING WITH WHALE SHARKS - OSLOB VS DONSOL

Hi Guys ! For my first video, I wanted to introduce you the famous "Swimming with Whale Sharks" activity that you can do in Philippines. There are two main spots where you can enjoy swimming with a whale shark.
The most famous place is Oslob. Oslob is only known as the place where you can swim with whale sharks. There was a lot of tourists when I was there ; I think it is like this every day... Whale Sharks are there all the year because they are fed by the agencies. So, it's not really like "REAL WILD WHALE SHARKS". But tourists don't care, they just want their pictures with them ... Most whale sharks are small and leave this place when they grew up. I could see them really close during the swim but I had to try to not be disturb by other people and I couldn't swim too far from the boat. My swim lasted 30 minutes.
Most tourists go in Oslob without knowing there is a second place : Donsol. That's why there is really less tourist in Donsol. I took a guide and a private boat and we started to look for REAL WILD WHALE SHARK (really quick during peak season). Whale Sharks are much bigger and I could really swim next to them and follow them ! It was amazing ! I was only me and the whale sharks :) ...... and the guide ok, but no matter.

im from Donsol, our whale shark interaction is better than cebu coz our is natural and friendly to the shatks... not disturbing their natural behavior, we are even against on feeding it.. the best months to visit the butanding are in d months of November to May, the best encounter we had was month of December 2009, , in fact that time we are going for Island hopping,, but we can't cross the seas, coz its full , , literally whalesharks everywhere ,, you can't also swim coz there's a lot of crab larvae and Plankton, their food.. Plankton's and crab larvae are too itchy ,. ,you cant swim, its a once in a lifetime experience... today June 2021, , there are still sharks, , but the monsoon is starting.. not a good time anymore

Nope... you got it wrong its not the second place... DONSOL was the first to have the whaleshark interactions even before 1998 when it was declared as a reserved tourism area for these migratory fish locally known as "BUTANDING". And yes, whalesharks in donsol are wild and larger than in OSLOB. Tourist swim with the gentle giants in their natural way and not by feeding them. You have great stuff here Cuxrie! nice video!

I never say Donsol was the second place ... Actually I did Donsol first .. I just but it in second in my video to keep the best at the end ;)

@Love its better to have less tourists and not disturb the natural environment of whalesharks than to have it overcrowded. i bet the former is more sustainable and environment friendly

AMAZING!! Thank you for making this video, i hate tourist trap and the way they encourage feed type on oslob, I am going to do this soon, do you think may or june still good time to spot them? That's all the time slot i have to travel soon, please do let us know, and how much you paid for the private boat with the guide

thank goodness for this video. we are going to oslob soon and will still skip on the whale shark watching there. i would like to know what month did you visited donsol as im interested in doing whale shark watching/swimming there. Thank you and keep up the good work

Nice footage. Kudos for promoting the more ecologically friendly way to swim with the sharks. Which tour company did you use for the boat and guide? Looking to go there in March. Thanks!

Hello Emily ! I did the tour with Donsol Eco Tour ( www.donsolecotour.com ) ! I took a package on 2 days. First day I scuba dived in manta bowl and I saw some Manta ray ...which was awesome ! The second day I did the whale shark interaction. As you can see on my video in Donsol, i was alone with the monitor. It's because I took a private tour for that. I wanted to have some peace while I was swimming with the whale sharks ..; It's a little bit more expensive but I recommand you do to a private tour to enjoy the experience !
