In 1974, the A’s sought a new face between Finley and the players, turning to Alvin Dark as their new manager. With Dark at the helm, they tried to become the only franchise other than the Yankees to win three straight titles. This was Hunter’s season to lead the way, as he won the Cy Young Award with another phenomenal season, winning a career-best 25 games.
While the other A’s championship teams sailed through the regular season and had to fight through tough series in the playoffs, this one was the opposite. The A’s lost just twice in nine postseason games, beating the Orioles in the ALCS and then the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series. Rollie Fingers won the World Series MVP Award, a rare honor for a relief pitcher, after picking up a victory and two saves, working 9-1/3 innings in the series.
The first era of the A’s in Oakland, known as the “Swingin’ A’s,” won three consecutive World Series championships in the early 1970s, something only one other Major League franchise (the Yankees) has ever been able to equal.

Love these old games. I am getting to the point where most of my baseball is listening and watching old games while sprinkling in my favorite team (Mets) most of the summer until the pennant race heats up and post season, because for the most part the bottom line is that old games whether experiencing them for the first time or seeing them again for the thousandth time are so much better than today’s game.

@breadandcircuses8127 Because baseball in general was so much better back then. Funny thing though My dad used to say baseball was so much better when he was younger. So maybe it's a generational thing.

cannot even pronounce the names of the players in this modern era game.they have nothing in common with me. my country is dead. so is baseball the game i loved. its an alien game played by people who have as much in common with me as do with red winged blackbirds......

I love seeing stuff like this. So much of this was unavailable to the public eye for so long, at least in this quality. For us young folks, this really brings the history to life instead of just saying “Yeah, the A’s won 3 World Series in the 70’s” as if it was a legend lol

The players referred to plate umpire Doug Harvey as “ God.” His strike signal is weak.

There's some duplication at about the 1 hour mark after Jim Brewer comes in for relief, all of a sudden Downing is pitching again and Brewer is back in the bullpen. oops.

As a fan of the older era of baseball im blown away by how much the commentators discuss how bad the Oakland A's team was playing at the time of this series, mainly they speak of how bad the hitting was, my gosh they are playing in the world series, they couldnt have been playing in the world series if they hadnt have hit the ball, Just saying!!
