For me the Switch is like the SNES 2.0. I have almost no triple A games, and play it connected to my old CRT. The incredible amount of pixel art and Indie titles makes me extremely happy. It's like the early nineties all over again.

The Switch made me able to start gaming again with a young family by my side. Being able to turn off the console whenever you want (need) and get right back in it is just great. I love RPGs and missing out on cutscenes was terrible. I never missed my PlayStation days after. Kids now can call on their dad whenever they want.

Yep same story here. What with the wife's Netflix addiction and the kids having their games to play there was very little chance for me to hop on my PS4. Even when I could it wasn't for very long. I ended up trading it for a Switch and a stack of games. Don't regret it in the slightest. Though I do miss Bloodborne. lol

I've always owned lots of games for every console I've owned, but the Switch is definitely the first time I've ever felt like a collector of games. I've bought about 100 games for my Switch, around 60 of which was physical, and I love having all these cases stacked next to my tv. The Switch will definitely go down as my favorite system of all time, and the last few years of having one have honestly been some of my favorite years of being a gamer.

As a handheld fan, the Switch has been an amazing console and the hybrid factor has even gotten some of my friends who thought they didn't like playing handheld to predominantly play that way. The best thing about the system is that even though I have 150+ games on it, I've been able to beat every single game I own on the system due to how the Switch allows for maximum convenience with the sleep mode and going between docked/undocked.

I've got over 350 physical Switch games and counting. One of them actually has a black spine instead of red; it's one of the Darksiders games. I do wish more games had the entire game on cart without necessary day one patches (looking at you Pokemon BD/SP!) or downloads. I wasn't all that interested in Switch or games when it launched but a friend convinced me to wait in line on launch day at Best Buy. I was lucky to get a grey switch and Zelda BotW and from there I was hooked. I poured over 1000 hours into Splatoon 2. There's so many underrated games like arms and astral chain too.

I bought my switch at may 2020, so almost two years now. So far I have 42 games for the system. I have most of the "must own" games (BOTW, pokemon, smash, mario odyssey and kart 8, etc). But also some great other games. Xenoblade 1 and 2, Bayonetta and Astral Chain, FF7-8 collection, SMT5, FE Warriors, etc. I also own some really unknown games like Crystal Crysis- Tetris like game which is crossover between some games and anime like Cave Story, and Black Jack. My point is, I LOVE my switch.

I started collecting for Switch games aggressively in the past two years or so and am sitting at just over eighty titles. Currently seeking out imports of titles that didnt see a physical release stateside. Interestingly enough, Asia region titles will get updates on a US machine, despite the warnings that you may need a region specific account in order to download updates and additional content. I discovered this when I picked up SaGa Frontier remastered.
@LaLtheGaL

I love collecting it. But I'm not sure if it will be considered highly sought after 20 years from now. For example, I tried to play Luigi's Mansion without an internet connection. The game would not load. It told me I needed to update before I could play but I didn't have an internet connection where I was. Thus, I couldn't play the game. How many of these physical games are actually going to be playable in the future? It will be important to keep on top of your updates and cross your fingers that your hardware doesn't fail, if you want to actually enjoy a lot of these physical editions in the future. I also think that the kids today are not going to be as nostalgic for physical goods in the future because it is not what dominates the space right now. AND my final point.... most of these physical games, are simply boxes with a little cart inside. Some games don't even have a nice artwork on the inside of the insert. Personally, I like collecting the retro games because of the beautiful manuals. Anyways, I know I sound like a downer. I want to say, that I still LOVE collecting for the Switch. I am just nervous that I won't be able to actually utilize a lot of the physical games when I'm an old lady and want to get my Donkey Kong on.

I agree with you. Our generation likes to collect and hoard. Today's kid's have everything at their fingertips with digital. Also (I think) alot of collector's are building up these collections (especially sealed) with the intention of some future retirement investment. I think they will regret that they wasted all that money because the market will be flooded with these sealed (or unsealed) games. Just my opinion anyway. Maybe I'm wrong.
@LaLtheGaL
@LaLtheGaL 2 жыл бұрын
@@dotheevolution78 Yes, it will be interesting. I still buy and "collect" but I don't know if I am a collector. I buy games that I want to play. I just happen to want to play a lot of games. When I buy collector's editions, I don't keep them sealed. What I actually do, is take the game out, play the game, and then when I beat the game my reward is to be able to look through the goodies in the collector's box. I do find myself questioning buying digital over physical with modern games. I keep falling back to physical because I do like to thumb through the games I have and decide what I want to play next. I also like to have the freedom to sell a game if it didn't click with me. I have Gamepass, and now if I find a real gem that I fall in love with, I will buy the physical edition and that is often as a way to say thank you to the developer for making something special.

I bought my switch lite at the beginning of April 2020 and it has helped me quite a lot to be able to deal with life. Although I have an adult coloring channel, I have been a gamer for years (Playstation with my beloved series Silent Hill) Being able to play handheld is awesome since I don't have the TV for my own (hubbie is not a gamer unfortunately). I didn't get a Switch until the middle of 2019, and I've already got over 100 physical games from retail, import, and low print distros, I even catalogued them all on my channel. It's a great hobby for me to collect, and I only collect games I actually like but it's so much fun to just get all these games, especially with all these imports and low prints, as it feels like you're getting something very few people have. I know a lot of people are anxious to see their next console but honestly I'm hyped to see The Nintendo Switch continue for several more years and just become this juggernaut for games. One thing I have noticed is most games for the system hold their value quite well. A few like Ubisoft games and quick cash-grab style games drop low pretty fast but the majority of the games in my collection are still worth the same amount or more than when I bought them. I don't collect for the monetary value but I think it's a solid bet to say that the value of collecting for this system will only go up.

Finding a Switch last year, was a surprise. I never thought I would find one. Built my library with several titles. Only downside with Limited Run is their prices, and how long they take sending stuff out. Could be months or almost or a year. So I have never ordered anything thru them. I try to but mostly physical, but if I cannot find a title, I may buy it digital. When you brought up Shantae, I bought each entry in the series on sale last year. Thankful to have it in my library. It may be digital, but its there. When I heard about the cost of the original physically.. uh yikes.

I love collecting new games for my switch. I just don't change out the one in my machine all that often. Because I need to complete it first. First game for it was Starlink and got all the toys. The physical games are doing a part for game preservation. and being a cart rather than the disc takes a lot of system drive maintenance issues out. I imagine in ten years new and old collectors will still be discovering obscure gems on it.

Switch is still my favorite console this generation. Even after the other two came out a year ago.

I’m having a great time collecting for the switch. It’s becoming one of my fave consoles of all time. I just crossed the 150 game mark. This is easily the most games I’ve ever collected for a system. I’d give up my ps5 and Xbox series X for a switch if I had to. Such a great library. Unfortunately for me, I don’t have any space to really collect some of these collector editions. I have a few, but too often I have to skip them.

The Nintendo Switch is the console that kept me into the whole modern gaming. I had grown tired of the « main » consoles and haven’t touched them for basically 4 years, last year a I got a PS5 that I love. But Switch kept me around, I would have moved on gaming altogether I guess if it wasn’t for it. This machine is incredible! Let’s hope the next generation Nintendo machine keep that hybrid concept and amaze us in other ways!

Completely agree with you regarding demand for Switch games in the coming decades. People collect Nintendo because it's a special brand. And the Switch in particular is a special console that people remember for a long time.

I started collecting physical copies for Switch by the end of '21 after I managed to get an OLED. It's a lot of joy, that much I can say, though some of the prices are pretty steep, like Hades and Bayonetta 2 with the active Bayonetta 1 code. It's a really nice addition to my PlayStation collection. Can't wait for BotW 2 and Splatoon 3!

I got my switch in june 2018. There were very few games even by then. Botw were the best 120hs in my gaming life, tropical freeze was a real experience (music and gameplay perfection), mario kart and valkyria chronicles 4 were the big start. 2018 was very dry except for smash, but 2019, 2020 and 2021 were a real blast.

In a technical sense they didn’t go back to cartridges. The old carts actually are parts of the board so they complete a circuit so to speak. It’s why you cannot turn them on without a cart. The switch treats the cart as solid state storage. So why it looks similar it’s completely different under the hood.

The amount of indie games is great. Switch games went back to our past as for taste for style of games. Not all of them of course. I have had a lot of fun with the JRPGs, RBGs, Shoot’em Ups, etc. love collecting for the system. Excellent and relevant video sir.

I think I’ve gotten most of the North American physical releases that are within reasonable price so far. I’ve moved on to imports and I gave 50+ physical games and rising! The switch has been such a fun console to collect/buy physical games for

The crazy thing with me is that (counting pre-ordered games I haven't received yet) I have well over 300 games for the Switch now. BUT.....I've probably only played less than 10 of them all the way through. Many of my games are still sealed. And I've been a little addicted to my PS4 and PS5, so that's all I usually play. But I still collect Switch games, and that's what most of my money goes on every month. I hate the thought of the Switch ever coming to an end after all of these games I've acquired. And then having to start all over with a new console. I have no space anymore, and that's the scariest part of it all.

I bought breath of the wild for switch before I got a switch (there was an Amazon discount). It was such a hype filled time for me as I hadn't been keeping up with modern gaming until I picked up the switch. I don't always spend the extra money to get the physical versions of games, but when I do, I find the cartridges a more appealing medium to collect for than discs. There's just something cool about having games on those little cartridges!
