Melody and her students discuss about the struggles of transferring to mainstream schools. All rights go to ABC Family. I own nothing. Used for educational purposes only to illustrate deaf culture and #DeafTalent (Marlee Matlin, Sean Berdy, Katie Leclerc, Ryan Lane, Daniel Durant, Stephanie Nogueras)

Watching teenagers sign sarcastically is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.

I truly respect the set designers for this episode they clearly were educated and actually researched which is refreshing to see, the small things like the desk orientation for an open signing space and an actual light school bell, its even more refreshing to see Deaf talent on screen and openly discussing

0:09 While it wasn't someone in a wheelchair, I was asked by a church youth group to mentor and take care of a teenager with bipolar disorder because I was very open about being HOH. At the time, I was twelve. The other teen was fifteen or sixteen. Needless to say...I did not go back to that youth group. What Natalie describes, tragically, is all too common for d/Deaf and HOH people, especially if we're open and vibrant.

it makes me sad that people who are deaf and hard of hearing are being discriminated against it's wrong!!!!!! i am a people greeter at a walmart store but i am not working right now because of the pandemic and when i see deaf people i treat them respect honor and dignity!!!! i don't see deaf people as people who cannot communicate i see deaf people as human beings who use sign language to communicate in a very beautiful way! i am not deaf or hard of hearing but if i do see a deaf person being discriminated against i would tell my manager thankfully that has not happen! but i am here to tell you at my store we treat deaf people as our customers! and i want to be sure it stays that way!

That applies to all disabled people, not just Deaf or HOH people. How does that kid in a wheelchair feel by being put with the Deaf kid? It's all relative and doesn't pertain to a single group of people.

I don't see how this will help the budget at all. They'll split them up between different schools and hire an interpreter for each student? Nope, doesn't make budgetary sense at all.

I don't like how they whisper as they sign and smack their hands when angry. Its really irritating.

Since they can’t hear they don’t really know when they are making noise (whispering) They as do not have tone they can’t hear it (sarcastic or mad) so they make up for that in bigger gestures and facial expressions (smacking hands)
