I switched from D810 to A7RIII last month and have been loving it. Only gripe I have is the 70-200mm GM makes the camera feel very front heavy. Love it nonetheless.

Best opening i have seen in a long time!

Try out super crop and the buffer is almost no issue as the files drop to 18MP. The a7riii does buffer but we are talking large RAW files at 42MP.

Looking forward to some follow-up comments on this topic after you've used the Sony for awhile.

I switched to a Sony system from Nikon 6 months ago and i'm still not used to the menu system. Thankfully, there's that custom menu where you can just put all the items there that you use regularly and that definitely helps a lot.

It's a good switch. Made it myself from a D810. Tried the D850 up against the a7RIII, but the D850 just didn't cut it compared to the a7RIII, so now I have two a7RIII. Best gear I've ever used. Sure the menus are a bit messy, but just setup "my menu" to suit your needs.

I went from Nikon D750 to A7Riii and I’m not regretting at all! Just love using mirrorless and the EVF; and we‘re getting a bonus firmware update on the already best focusing system - how awesome is that!

Congratulations Chelsea! I love my A7 riii. I was an early ditcher of Nikon and DSLRs. I can tell you how this plays out: you’ll be selling the D850 within a month, and lenses too!

I don't really get the constant complaining about the Sony menu system. I have a Canon 70D and a Sony camera and both menu systems are pages and pages long with a myriad of options. It just takes time to learn them. Take advantage of the various shortcuts to take care of common adjustments you may need to make, use Custom buttons wisely and it makes it a lot easier.

Sony is where it's at right now with cameras. I made the switch from Canon to Sony and absolutely love it!

Well, I made the same switch and have never regret it or used a Nikon since. The speed, Eye AF, perfect AF, in body stabilisation, super sharp Sony lenses have made me a Sony user.

Be sure to try the customizable menu section on the 7RIII. Put the things YOU use in just a few screens and the massive menu system is no longer a problem. You customize the pages and what is on each page. Very helpful. Great video!

Having a hard time debating getting Sony A7iii with Sony 24-70 G master vs Nikon Z6 with Nikkor 24-70 2.8S Any advice ? I mostly do portraits and landscapes for fun.

Welcome to the club! I shoot the 7iii and have fallen completely in love with mine. I use it for wildlife adapting the 150-600 C and have had great success. Combining the IBIS with the lens stabilization I can hand hold WAY under the reciprocal!! I was blown away getting sharp shots at 600mm and 1/250th. It isn't the 95% hit rate you'd get following the rules but it sure opens up new possibilities to hand hold that low and that far. As for buffering I use the Sandisk Extreme Pro that reads and 300 and I think it writes at 270mbs I don't have issues. You have a higher MP though and I'd guess you've tried the extremely fast write speed cards. I'm jealous of your MP's for wildlife but I like my focus system better. I can't wait till they combine the two!! I'll pre-order that in a heartbeat. P.S. I love the video tongue in cheek humor. It has a bigger lens. LMAO

It's the right decision. I made the switch from my Nikon D810 to a Sony A7rIII about two years ago and I never looked back. BTW: You forgot to mention the eye af. This feature is so useful when shooting portraits!

I switched three years ago from Canon to Sony and never looked back. I loved the menu system of the 5D MKI, it was o damn fast. With the MKII they screwed it up. With Sony, you sometimes have to search for things, because they're completely wrong listed, but it is, what it is. The A7RIII is a joy to use and it's doing something like no other manufactor, I can have a dedicated wheel for ISO, shutter and aperture, without klicking any button. I never had a cam where I am that fast in adjusting parameters in manual. Thats my biggest USP for the Sonys. The prices for the lenses are super expensive, but they're so good. I love the 24mm F1.4 GM. With the APS-C I have a 24 and a 36mm in one lens and because of the 42mpix of the RIII it's so usable. So I can understand, why you give it a try. There isn't everything perfect, but that system has made huge steps forward in such a short time.

What about trying out the A9 later on after you are used to this one?

Why not the Z6 or Z7 and use your Nikon glass.

No matter the brand, mirrorless is not the future, is the present. And is here to stay. On the other hand, I want to mention something, coming from a DSLR, for me, the menues in the Sonys in particular, they're great. These cameras are PACKED with tech and you have to organize everything. I don't know why, but I've never, EVER, had any issue with that, not even with the first ones, and I'm talking not only mirrorless but SLTs. As for the lenses, right now, they have pretty much the most important ones so, that shouldn't be a problem at all. And, the detail about the frame rates. That's really weird when you think about it. For example, the 99ii had 12fps with 42.40 Megapixels. If you compare that with the D850 is like... well. Anyway. If you stay with the 7r3, then awesome, if not, try at least other brands, you especially that you have the chance.

@Tony will you be having a Fuji 50R v A7 3 portrait and street shoot out?
