This is fascinating, especially when they talk about how your personality can change slightly when you enter the "reality" of another language. I currently speak 5 languages, and I've found this happens to me. Some of my other friends who are also polyglots have also noticed this. For example, in Spanish, I tend to be a more relaxed, cool, confident & happy version of myself, while in French I tend to act a little bit more reserved. Loved this video!

Azren the Language Nerd Wow, tu peux parler ces langues! I can read, write in English pretty well, but I can't speak it confidently. Therefore, Portuguese fluently (mother language) French A1 English B2 ( Bc I can't speak it well) I don't want to came off as a nosy person. May I ask what do you do for living? I've always wondered what people who know tons of language do as an occupation.

Hei, i didn't say it's hard, i said not fun. I mean, i don't think that english is a language versatile and has a funny-construction of the senctences. Personally i prefer a declination-language, that's why i study german and russian. Understood?

***** Wait... how is it an insult to American culture? The only thing I can think of is that people in the UK pronounce most words how they're spelled, like "been" or "aluminium." And that language changes and it isn't necessarily wrong if it's pronounced in a different way than it originally was, so that could manifest as insulting American English, I guess...
@kalpic11
@kalpic11 8 жыл бұрын
***** I have heard really good reasons for not liking the U.S., though. It's basically mostly right-winged U.S. that they're talking about when they criticize it. But basically I was told in school that the U.S. was the greatest country and that we were top in everything and that everyone else who is successful is copying us or trying to be like us. But I learn later that not everyone looks up to us like we're some kind of shining beacon of success or moral knights for everyone ("giving people democracy"). And I think because of those things we've been taught, we tend to have an arrogant way of viewing ourselves as Americans and see other countries as not quite up to par, even if we don't admit it. And that seems borderline nationalistic to me.

Soy salvadoreño, hablo español, pero me gusta mucho el conocer otros idiomas, he aprendido inglès y portuguès, ahora me encuentro aprendiendo italiano y espero tambien aprender frances el proximo año. El conocer otro idioma te convierte en varias personas en uno. I am salvadoran, I speak Spanish and I like a lot to learn other languages; I have learnt English and Portuguese and now I am learning Italian and I hope to learn French next year. Knowing other languages turns you in a person with different personalities. Sou salvadorenho, falo espanhol, mas eu gosto muito de aprender outras linguas, tenho aprendido inglès e portugues, e agora eu estou aprendendo italiano e espero aprender frances o proximo ano. Aaaah quanto mi ritrovo in questa situazione e in queste riflessioni. Sono italofona ma adoro studiare le lingue. J'habites à Fribourg, eine Stadt in der Schweiz, where people speak French and a Swiss German dialect. Il s'agit donc d'une ville bilingue. Il mio ragazzo è svizzero tedesco e ha imparato il francese con me. Donc nous nous parlons tjr en français, even if it is not our native language. Le nostre conversazioni sono identiche a come scrivo e come è mostrato nel video. Ce qui est beau dans l'apprentissage des langues consists in the fact that every language has its expressions that fits perfectly and you can't translate them. Spesso mi capita di parlare in italiano e utilizzare delle parole in altre lingue perchè le trovo molto piú convincenti. Ahora estoy estudiando el Español porque es un idioma muy bonito y similar a el italiano y el francés. Cependant je suis bcp plus fascinée par l'apprentissage du Japonais. 日本語は美しい。私は少し日本語お話ます (住みません、 I can't find how to write ほ in this sentence correctly). Also, die Sprache sind sehr lustig und Interessant. Viel Spass und Viel Glück, Leute! Liebe Grüsse from Switzerland :)

it is so funny that they have close to no foreign accent when speaking german, the only thing that gives it away is that it is to clear/crisp. "natural" german is a little bit more mumbled. perhaps people in hannover speak very clearly but the regular german speaks a bit faster and mumbles just a little bit. foreigners just tend to say every word. for example, weird example but it fits very well. imagine somebody in a thinking process saying: hmmm i dont know how to put it/ i can not conform that (it is not the exact translation, just similar to the german meaning of the upcomming phrase). in german: hmmm kann ich so nicht sagen. would be in spoken german: kanich sonich sagn... certain words amalgamate somehow.

I would like to do the same with someone who speaks my languages Portuguese, German, French, English and if possible swiss german and someone who speaks to me in Italian and Spanish too cause i understand it but dont speak it, must be pretty bad ass to talk all the languages at the same time.. never had the chance to do it...

**Discuss how much your personality changes when you speak a foreign language** **Proceeds to exclusively speak in Romance/Germanic languages that are structurally similar in grammar, syntax, and vocabulary** Try this with a language drastically different from your native one, and you'll see different results. I act/express myself differently in Mandarin because it's fundamentally different from English. It's not some persona that one can just slap on for fun.

Even though I am a native English speaker I have a problem sometimes where I'll retain a Spanish or Italian accent even when I'm speaking English. It usually happens when I've been practicing all day. People will be ask me if I'm Spanish or Italian and I'm just like "shit. I was doing it again, wasn't I?" lol
