I work for a company that rebuilds transformers. It’s cool to see how they’re worked on in the field.

We have to report on the line before grounding. I guess other utilities do it differently.

Everything looked good. We can’t wear vest around energized circuits their not FR and we have to wear sleeves before we even open pad mount transformer

Their vests are cat 2. And they are expensive! Ours are like 170 bucks I think for just the basic ones

Wow. I don't fully know what is going on. But WoW! This is something I could never understand unless you have somebody working in this field. Oh yeah right Or youtube

Static caps aren’t grounded from the feed through elbows. Plus, the switcher isn’t wearing any switching cape nor a face shield.

Alot of places dont require capes or shields. None of my companies have except if your working three phase meters or dedicated meter techs. But i have seen a guy grab a dummy plug by the tail and scream lol. So you know that shit is necessary!

The company I retired from for more than 35 yrs required face shields for 480 and above. I switched everything from 208-765 kva high voltage switching.. it was required..

My company we require face sheilds even on 240. Doesn't matter dude. Still can get hurt. And when a ark flash happens you wish you was wearing it. Or glad that you was.

I don't work with electricity. I have no technical or trade education of any kind. But, there is one thing I know. No one can post a video involving a trade without a pile on of guys talking about how one thing or another isn't being done "the right way."

0:03 if you need your colleagues to be educated about PPE, maybe they shouldn’t be working in the first place. Stack shelves or flip burgers instead. Wait, they will encounter problems there too.

Where I work, (northern Illinois) we are not required to wear sleeves while switching URD. The only time we need sleeves is when working in the energized MAD.

where he bends over at 2:09 you can clearly see there is a "2" written for cat 2 fr. They would never give electrical distribution men non fr vests...

In Ontario, if not all of Canada you won’t find sleeves. We definitely have to be wearing all of our PPE and FR clothing. The only thing we do different is we always take an amp check before we pull an elbow to confirm whether we are breaking parallel or dropping load. Also all of our new pad mounts have internal switches that we operate before pulling or close after installing elbows.
