Your son also stole the second "a" in "managing" but don't beat yourself up for it, as it's a very good review as usual. You always mange to cram a lot of content for us consumers in a short amount of time, and for that I am grateful. I give Switch Up the value score of 20 out of 20. Not many people know that this a sequel to the popular Untitled Goose Game, where the unnamed protagonist leaves the bucolic life of the countryside to kick some serious ass. It's canon.

Definitely a recommend to anyone who’ve been craving for a Metal Slug game. The music and the bosses feel almost as epic as the ones from MS. It’s not too perfect but it’s good enough for me to love it and hope for a more fleshed out sequel.

Yeah but they’re each 7 bucks. I’m just waiting for an actual Metal Slug collection rather than paying 7 bucks each for games that are solid but nonetheless too short for the asking price. This seems like a solid alternative

For me, $20 is an acceptable price for a high-quality indie game, even if it is a bit short. In the case of a small studio, that $20 initial price really goes a long way toward helping them get established. Much more so than a company like Konami that can quickly repackage 30+ year old games and squeeze a few more dollars out of an older franchise. You gotta remember that when Konami packages together many older games in a $20 or $30 bundle, all of those games initially sold for anywhere from $40 to $70 new.

I loved this game so much. I beat it twice. I still play it randomly. It’s just so much fun. I waited for this game for so long lol. I want a sequel 😂 like the metal slug franchise

I always find myself relating every Run & Gun to Contra which is my favorite of all time. I am on the fence and will be waiting for a sale before I jump this one but it does look fun and entertaining.

I would suggest Gunlord X and Blazing Chrome in addition to this title as alternatives if you're looking for something besides Metal Slug, Mega Man, Cuphead and Contra. Also, Fury Unleashed is a great run n' gun title if you're into roguelites, and Biolab Wars is a another great traditional run n' gun, although short and sweet. I would save that one for a sale buy.

@@martindion4846 Update. Finally bought Valfaris. Good game so far. Already owned Slain, so kinda bummed I bought two versions of it, but the double pack was on sale for 13 bucks and I bought it and archived the solo version of Slain. Saved 12 bucks, as Valfaris by itself is not on sale and costs 25 dollars. I'm hoping the game will be more epic in scope than the likes of Blazing Chrome, because although I enjoyed that game, it is a bit short on content, even compared to the other Joymasher releases.

Good goosey gravy this looks great. War machines = metal slug = metal gear = awesome. Man I need to get this one. The music is a huge plus for me. Cool review, sorry your kid ate your homework.

It's a fun and charming game. If you know you will enjoy it it's worth putting in that 'extra tip' money. If it adds an arcade mode I would say it's definitely worth $20 bucks without question. But right now, no need to rush the purchase.

This does look really well done, and the visuals are neat. Gameplay seems cool as well, and it’s good to know the performance holds up. I think I’ll wait for a sale before picking this one up though. Thanks for the review.

I love this game!! So much fun, nice and tight controls, and the frantic fluid gameplay that I felt Valfaris was sorely missing (just played some of that before ditching it). Really hope for a physical on this and a sequel!

Bear in mind the Metal Slug games are just ports of games from 1996 so cost nothing to develop for the Switch.

Tbh I'm getting a bit fed up with all those way too obvious rip offs of other games. These go way further than just "inspired by". If you want to play a Metal Slug game, play a Metal Slug game. And if you're a developer with a bit of creativity, then create something of your own. Actually doing something new is a tougher job, but so much more interesting than those knock off efforts.
