@@peteratherton897 what exactly are you expecting from her. Once one the track during competition she’s focused on the task at hand. She doesn’t showboat or make everything about her. She shows grace and class before and after the race. She’s being herself as a competitor. Other athletes may show more outward emotion. That may be how they hype themselves up for the competition. The announcer doesnt know what she is talking about. Syd is always looking very intense at the start before the gun goes off. It's nothing new. I've been watching her since she was 16 when she busted out on the world stage like a shooting star. It makes me nervous watching her stand there before the gun goes off swaying back and forth like that with her focused zoned out look trying to block it all out. Once the gun goes off she is smooth and relaxed as silk. Watching her in that quick sway with that focused expression trying to block out her nerves makes me nervous as hell. If I had to gamble I would guess she follows some type of strict mental routine to block out a bad case of pre race jitters or stage fright. Once the gun goes off she is fine.

Super beast mode. A lot of people yard sprinting good but no setting records but Syd is running a much tougher event and set records 5 out of the last 5 races! Now that’s the most talented runner in the world and her hurdle time is faster than the top 400m women runners and her 400m relay anchor leg was under a second faster than Uibo’s winning 400m time at Worlds a month ago. Jamaica keep boasting about running PB’s but haven’t broken any records but Syd is clearly running a much tougher race with hurdles and destroying records. Let’s celebrate this champion properly. The best part about Syd’s performances is that she isn’t verbally talking about not getting respected enough by the organizers or complaining about her sponsors. Once she got herself situated professionally her races are now starting to look like her H.S. n college races where no1 is within a country mile of her. When these athletes line up beside her they have to know they r going for 2nd n 3rd place. The same way every1 who lined up along side Michael Johnson in the 400m knew they were running for 2nd n 3rd n the same way the men who lined up alongside Edwin Moses knew what it was. This is not to take anything away from the other athletes in this field because there r some really good/great hurdlers out there but Sydney is head n shoulders above the rest.

Yep. I hope she eventually drops down to the 200 and really takes a shot at FloJo. She'd be the perfect successor. She ran an 11.07 100 a couple years ago in a one-off race. I think she could do it.

@@netia2 for her to challenge the 200 record she would have to drop the 400 hurdles event and strictly concentrate on speed training events. Any event over 200m is the beginning of long distance endurance running which requires both speed and endurance. Sydney will never go for the 200 record as it will no work for her benefits. Believe me when I say she's holding herself back on the 400 hurdles, she could easily hit the 48 mark whenever she wants.

It was very nice to watch McLaughlin run her own race, which I think is something most athletes aim to accomplish. What I found a little off-putting was the cameraman's lingering in her face to disrupt her pre-race focus and the woman commentator's comment about her not smiling into the camera. I've watched this young woman for awhile, and the intense pre-race focus has been consistent. I'm rather surprised more athletes don't do the same.

Sydney always looks tense at the start…then it’s 14 strides, alternating lead legs, switching to 15 strides around hurdle 6. If she could do 14 strides for 2 more hurdles and not chop she breaks the world record again, easily. She’s the best, go Sydney!

She is so way out there, other athletes have to retrain, she uses a technique where she takes off one step per hurdle, that alone is so hard to over come plus here speed down the last stretch is really fast too. She is a superstar.

sydney is such a beauty even when getting ready to destroy the rest of the field. She does just float thru those hurdles and really wasn't pushing herself hard and she does this. Can't wait till she incorporates the 400 M flats as well, she is a force of nature and switching to Bobby as her coach right before olympics? Wow that was such a gutsy move.

That seemed almost effortless. She wasn't even breathing hard after the finish. Put hurdles in her lane and let the world's best 400 flat runners run against her and she breaks 50 (and probably wins). I honestly thing she is capable of a 47.5 flat 400.
