Everyone who goes to college is an adult. Some people are parents, some have jobs. The idea that attendance is mandatory is ridiculous. @women supremacy ( men can fck themselves ) Ok, so you think that no one else is busy in that class then? I was in school full time while also being the sole provider of my household. I had to take care of my disabled mother, my underage brother, and a dog. My commute was over 2 hours to Boston. But guess what? I still went every single day, and on time. I had a daily battle with anxiety/depression while I was a student and even considered taking my own life because I would wake up every single day without my situation improving. I had too many people depending on me at the same time. I had no room for errors. My mom's child support was expiring in 2019 (2 months before my anticipated graduation date) and my college job wouldn't have been enough to support 3 adults, a dog, and a mortgage. This is the life of many college students. We're all poor. And everyone is dealing woth their own problems when they come home. Life events don't stop while you're in student status. My grandmother died mid-semetser and I had to mourn her death within 2 days. I also got in a near-fatal car accident and totaled my car. I also had a painful lower back injury that took over 5 months to recover and I would cry everytime I had to bend over and put on my shoes. All these events occurred while being a full time student. It's not fair for the professor to give some students special treatment. Then the students may notice and call the professor out on favoritism, neopitism, having unprofessional relations w/ students, etc. if she's THAT busy, then she should apply to online school instead. Or not enroll in school at all if she can't make the time. When I was in school I didn't have the option in working full time due to a heavy workload. And no, social media influencing and acting in a tv show is not the same work as manual/physical labor. Also find it annoying that this actress took away someone else's spot who would have appreciated their enrollment in the course she flunked out on. There is a clear difference between students who actually want more than a degree, and actually want to learn from their professors. If you are the type of person who can teach yourself, just purchase the goddamn book on Amazon or something! Because your tuition is paying your teachers' salaries.

Yes, sadly, cuz college isn't just about payment and studying for finals..Like, on my college you had to listen to atleast 85-90% of classes, do whatever activities, take regular both individual and group assingments etc to be allowed to take the finals..However, even if professor would allow someone to come to finals they most likely wouldn't be able to pass it without all the previously mentioned as it all gives you the points needed to pass the said exam. We did have people who rly needed to work alot aside of college hence often unable to attend it all on which professors/assitents would basically tell them "Well, you need to choose between your job and college"..which seems shitty considering some rly have no choice, but it is how it is.🤷‍♀️

I don't know though because if the policy of the college is that if you are not in attendance for a certain amount of time, that would automatically constitute as failing. Taking a final won't change that. That's how my community college was, so if she went to an actual uni, I'd imagine they'd be ever more strict. If that's policy, and she broke policy, they can't do anything in her favor because she should've been in class. It's not fair that she got the option of catching up on her own pace, being able to make money and pursue an interest while the other kids were forced to be in class, missing shifts and opportunities. Think about it from their perspective and you'd be annoyed, too. Sure, she's paying to attend, but so are they and it's totally not fair for them to have to pay all of that, and someone else gets a pass because they're an aspiring actor. Think about the kids that work full time, while being a student full time. She gets to pass on class, to fulfill a dream, but they can't pass on class to make sure their rent is paid and their fridge is stocked? That is extremely one sided. It's dumb that college still has attendance requirements when they preach about adulthood, and how everything is digital nowadays, but again, policy is policy.

This story doesn’t sit well with me but i agree if you have a full-time job and trying to balance school, exceptions should be made but im surprised no one had told her. I’m sure the professor or someone had it on paper (email, etc) that she was not allowed to take the exam or their position would have been jeopardised. Something is missing from the story. Also college kids are not high schoolers anymore. If a kid is being given exceptions, even though it sucks, no one is tattling to the professor all their grievances and expecting them to get their way. If the story is true, it might have been that they told her it’s unfair to the other students for her to receive full credit when the other students have been putting in much more work in class. I did not like how she presented the other students as the issue to her being denied the credit. You choose to work. You either discuss the situation beforehand with your professor or take full responsibility.
@dorixoxoxo
@dorixoxoxo Жыл бұрын
You are Absolutely right. Some Classes also have different way of giving credits, like the final exam must be 60% of your Grade, how active you are is around 20%, projects + homework 20%, on which you are required to attend 75% of the Seminars (not lectures). It’s just one example, and it’s the right to the Professors and the law department of the university to make those rules, there are many different ways of combining those. If this was the case , and she was there to only take the exam but wanted full credit then she is just narcissist. There are Students who are working full time, and showing up for every class, so if she wanted special treatment then the professor should let those other students have the same treatment. Her story lacks a lot of information it sounds based. If the professor did something that was not allowed she could have complained, and problem solved but it looks like the professor was right, because she is complaining in the internet about it.

Guys yes it seems wrong but college classes (not all of them, it depends on the teacher) will take attendance as a grade. Acting is a job and if other students can’t miss class for work without their grade being affected then neither can she. Im of the option that attendance shouldn’t be necessary as long as they’re present for presentations, mandatory lectures, and test while maintaining passing grades. I do agree that she should have been contacted to be informed she wasn’t gonna pass the class due to attendance and therefore couldn’t take the exam.

I was failed repeatedly in high school for attendance failures not for my grades, I was given lower grades in college based on attendance all while working 3 jobs in high school and college to help my mom and siblings.. if regular people don’t get to take the finals and pass when we are working really hard she shouldn’t either 🤷🏻‍♀️ I think yes there should be a change all the way around if I’m paying for the classes and I can pass without attending I should be free to do what I want but until that’s the case everyone should have the same rules.

As someone else who was kickstarting her entertainment industry career whilst being in college for film, I can say that honestly college ends up being the #1 hindrance in trying to gain experience which is ironic because in any entertainment field you need experience to get more work, whether cast or crew. As a film major, I remember times when my professors refused to do so much as let me take a test on an earlier or later day, even tho I was working, and THEYRE FILM TEACHERS! 🤣. In my opinion, college isn’t highschool and the plans/pathways should be a little more malleable based on individual students lives and careers!

In law school we got the number of absences that correlated to the credit hours. If we missed more, we couldn't take the final. So it was usually three absences, but the key was that it was required that we got notice from the professor, so if they didn't notify you then you could get one more. The professor could allow exceptions at their discretion with supporting evidence. Law school is not very accommodating. Seeing students not allowed to sit for a final happened a decent amount in law school.

Ahh yes, I found my people.😂😂😂 reading half these comments makes me wonder if anyone being like, “Ugh, yasss queen, they’re just jelly of you! You are totally the victim!” have ever actually been to college. I’m pretty sure most colleges have an attendance policy and then from there professors can either show more leniency or be even stricter. The policy where I went was you could miss double the amount of times your class met a week, per semester. So like, if the class met 3x a week, you could miss 6 classes for the semester. I had some teachers who did not give a shit. And others that were like, “You can’t miss any.” And every single class had a syllabus that stated the attendance policy. And again, depending on the teacher, they’re going to tell you, “I’m not your mommy or daddy. You need to take responsibility for yourself. It’s not my job to tell you where you need to be and when.” And as far as just letting her take the exam, why would the professor let her take the exam when she was already failing the class? Why is he going to spend time grading something that means nothing?
