I'm from Adelaide and have spent time in both cities. While Sydney is beautiful, the cost of living makes it prohibitively expensive for most people to live in and Melbourne's CBD and inner suburbs makes it feel much more vibrant. Melbourne gets my vote :)

I lived for 5 years as an international student in Sydney then I moved to Melbourne after receiving a job contract, i prefer Melbourne as the suburbs are so well planned with an abundance of parks and local malls. Accomodation was cheaper as well. More places to hike and get lost during the weekends

I think there's one aspect about the rain between the two cities that is overlooked. Sure, Sydney has more rain and more rainy days, and this is often trotted out as meaning Melbourne is better. However, when you consider the rain events, you'll see a marked difference. Melbourne has drizzle. Soul crushing drizzle. Sydney puts on a show. It really buckets down, and you feel alive and invigorated by nature unleashed upon you. I'll take a Sydney storm over a Melbourne drizzle any day. IMHO.

I'm not Australian but I really miss Sydney haven't been in Australia since just before the lockdown so I got all those great nights out in the cross which was amazing, Melbourne is a great city as well but I always found that Melburnians had a jealousy of Sydney they always asked me which city I prefer and not one Sydneysider ever asked me that because they don't care in fact they had only positive things to say about Melb like complementing their shopping etc. Syd was a better fit for me as I'm a league fan and preferred the outdoor lifestyle but it's a little bit more pretentious and materialistic which some people might not like.

@helloworld6126
@helloworld6126 Жыл бұрын
To be honest, the people now stay in Sydney can easily move to Melbourne or any city in Australia or central coast due to the affordability. However I do not believe most people now live in Melbourne can afford moving to Sydney as Sydney is expensive. The inter-state option for people living in Melbourne during lock down is Brisbane. The reason is obvious. Sydney is not a city that everyone can afford.
@BDub2024

Melbourne has a bigger sport culture. Crowds will go and watch any sport virtually. Whereas with Sydney, they always say "Sydney only loves winners". They'll get big crowds only when a team is winning. AFL in Melb gets a lot bigger crowds than NRL in Syd. Same with cricket. Mind you, all this could be due to there being more things to do in Sydney and the transport (to games) not being as efficience as in Melb.

great vid guys. sydneys problem is everything is extremely expense. sydneys much much better for doing sports, water sports and hiking. sydneys surrounding national parks are amazing.... the blue mountains.... the beaches incredibly beautiful.... and it has spectacular harbours. melbournes great for international events, spectator sports and coffee culture. the food is similar in both cities... (melbournians have a culture of talking things up...!) sydney has far better weather.... and its all year round. yes sydney has more rainfall.... but its usually in the form of tropical like downfall-thunderstorms that last for half an hour. melbourne is pitter patter rain-drizzle for the majority of the year.... 4 seasons in one day. business wise, melbourne is full of corporate jobs.... sydney is the small business capital of australia. in short..... sydney for out door lifestyle and tourism. melbourne for big events and coffee culture. art.

Sydney is absolutely stunning... Especially The Cbd & North Shore...but your life is surely immensly depressing unless you live in the Northern suburbs (Wahroonga to Deewhy), Easter suburbs (Watsons Bay to Coogee) or the Sutherland shire (Cronulla to Menai)... Because the remaining 75% of Sydney is quite bleak, with the exception of olympic park and the blue mountain of course... but I hands down choose Melbourne & Victoria as there's so much more than just the City... there's hundreds of pockets & insane natural landmarks only 1hr from the city, but, the local beaches truly suck haha, the climate is much much better than Sydney that's without doubt - but the weather predominantly sucks for 6 months plus and tends to be a little bipolar lol... but at least its not Qld filthy 24/7 humid mess for 10 months, then 2 months of a soft winter that is really just a mild spring... - So yeah, I agree to a magnitude of reasons, Melbourne wins & is only rapidly getting better... I just wish Melbourne had a massive Queens wharf Project & the WestGate was a bit sexier & structurally artistic... Frankston & Sunshine could do with some rapid gentrification too.

When Melbourne City council's workers or subcontractors falsely accused me of parking in a restricted Zone and gave me a malicious Infringement Notice, I believe I have a right to complain. 😊. When I viewed the photos on line, I saw that they have taken a photo of a parking sign from a completely different area and uploaded that photo under my fine as if they want to pretend that I had parked there. That was a deliberate malicious act. Not sure if those people issuing fines get a commission or have revenue targets or why they do such low cheap acts. I have submitted a request to review my fine as it has been faked.

Forget about Melbourne and Sydney. In Perth you have the beaches, river and water of Sydney, but without the overcrowding. You have the sporting culture of a Melbourne, but with better weather. But what about the coffee? A lot more expensive in Perth. Try the cappucino strip in Fremantle, based on the name it must have something going for it. Overall you can be near beach, hills and city without traffic congestion. As a city its an easy decision, but admittedly it is the most isolated city in the world, so that can be seen as an advantage or disadvantage.

People always say "the harbor and the beaches" when comparing Sydney and Melbourne, but Melbourne is simply the better city, it has better public transportation has more going on and more to do all around then Sydney does. Melbourne has a world city vibe to it in was Sydney does not. Not to mention Melbourne is notably more diverse in reality. That's a fact, and when it comes to beaches Melbourne has just as good beaches... Many people buy into the marketing of Sydney when it comes to its beaches, lets be real most of it's beaches are less pristine than some of the beaches in Melbourne in reality...
