Its a love song about a person who is a "drowning man" and is saved by the love of the person he is singing to. The lyrics describe the feeling of being lost and adrift where he describes his fears and his absolute love, and how the love of the person he is singing to helps him find his way back to shore. The song is about the power of love to help someone through difficult times, and how it can be a source of strength and hope. Ultimately "Riptide" is a symbol of love where its dangerous and unpredictable but has its beautiful moments.
