More About John Byrne: John Lindley Byrne (/bɜːrn/; born July 6, 1950) is a British-born, Canadian raised, American writer and artist of superhero comics. Since the mid-1970s, Byrne has worked on many major superheroes, with noted work on Marvel Comics' X-Men and Fantastic Four and the 1986 relaunch of DC Comics' Superman franchise, the first issue of which featured comics' first variant cover. Coming into the comics profession as penciller, inker, letterer and writer on his earliest work, Byrne began co-plotting the X-Men comics during his tenure on them, and launched his writing career in earnest with Fantastic Four (where he also served as penciler and inker). During the 1990s he produced a number of creator-owned works, including Next Men and Danger Unlimited. He scripted the first issues of Mike Mignola's Hellboy series and produced a number of Star Trek comics for IDW Publishing. In 2015, Byrne and his X-Men collaborator Chris Claremont were entered into the Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame.

John Byrne's X-Men run is what really fall in love with comic books. His Alpha Flight, Superman, She-Hulk, and Fantastic Four are all great reads with great art. Mad love for this man's art.

@Vad Wanuu\ I went even further than that, I was a fan of his SHE HULK books! The only thing I hated was his West Coast Avengers, not because of the art but because of what he did to The Vision, who had previously been one of my favorite characters! But one "clunker" out of so much success ain't bad at all!

Naw, he WRECKED The Vision and ruined the hard work of Roy Thomas, Steve Englehart and other writers who busted their butts making The Vision a compelling character! He single handedly thought Wanda The Scarlet Witch shouldn't be married to "...a TOASTER!" And a lot of writers after him started treating Viz with similar contempt! I was angry at Byrne for a LONG time after that and wouldn't go near his Wonder Woman tenure because of it! Cartoonist ERIK LARSEN created a character called "Johnny Redbeard" who would work on creatures created by others, turn them upside down, and then leave them to their own devices or for someone else to fix! Hmmm, sure reminded me of Mr. Byrne! I started to forgive him when he started creating his own characters and books!

In my younger years all I want is the edginess and grittiness that is abound in comics of 90s and 2000s, I want hard hitting actions because I am not a child. But lately what really charmed me is the naivete and good natured charm of old comics by Kirby, Claremont, Simonson, and Byrne. I love its lightheartedness that sometimes can be mistaken for stagnation.
