Fun fact: the writers actually did want to use the Justice Society in that one episode, but the higher ups at DC said no, so the show's writers instead came up with that Justice Guild group as a replacement.

I loved the ep of " Savage Pass " when John was sent back in time to WW II Western front. As J.S. stated to the troops he was fighting besides, " Once a Marine, Always a Marine ! " On a side note, .. When John meets his alternate reality timeline Son he had with Hawkgirl and Later with the whole Thanagar Earth Invasion arch. J.S. lost his ring and Hawkgirl returns it back to him and Alfred was the only one openly cutting her any slack for being as spy the whole and finally turning her back on her own people to save her friends on the J.L. and Earth. It was a missed moment for, .. Hawkgirl, " I'm sorry for everything and here is your ring John." turns to walk away. John Stewart, " You should know by now be this long on Earth. When you Give the other Person the RING ! You really should by tradition do so on one knee." But man, did the writers/ directors Just left us hanging there.. All those side romance stories and not a single wedding. It was wrong, .. just wrong of them to do that.

Best DCAU Intros in order: 1. Justice League Unlimited 2. Batman Beyond 3. Batman: Tas 4. Batman/Superman Adventures 5. Static Shock 6. Superman: TAS 7. Justice League 8. The Zeta Project Lobo and Gotham Girls didn't have intros (and really shouldn't be counted as part of the DCAU)

This was a fantastic show. It still blows my mind that they didn't use this as a template for the live action Justice League movie. I realize that they would have to make changes for the big screen. But the origin story, line-up and general feel of the animated show would have been perfect for a movie.

A lot of DC "fans" dont get it...the DCEU doesnt live up to its potential like the comics or DCAU does...thats why its just meh to me. I refuse to just like the DCEU just bc its got DC characters in it...it needs to at least come close to the well developed story arcs and characters as the DCAU.

The DCAU was something special. It's definitely the stepping stone that was needed before we got the MCU. Kids today are definitely spoiled by the serialized storytelling of the MCU. Don't get me wrong though. The DCAU was some next-level shit. But there are a looot of people who fell off after "BatmanTAS", or didn't even realize the later JL/JLU cartoons were in continuity with that. That being said, i fucking appreciate the DCAU for what it is. Forget the DCEU, the Snyder Cut and all that. DC has a shared universe that works. And it's the goddamn DC Animated Universe. It's just a shame not that many people know that or realize it.

@@thedefinitionisthis " cough, cough, cough," cartoons are for little children or for over size fanboy man-child. Honestly, cartoon stylize animations is still cheaper then life- like CGI. My grandma never care much for cartoons and did not go for much for Disney. But she DID watch Batman TAS & Justice League each week on her own cause she like the adult content in the short stories with solid emotion driven plots. For example look what they did with Doctor Freeze.

Just want to point out that the Milestone character and comic was Static, the cartoon was Static Shock. Also Carl Lumbly also played a super hero called Mantis on Fox in the 90s.

I think the intro is cool. Although any use of CG runs the risk of looking dated in a few years, it was a little nod to the Fleischer style that inspired the look of Bruce Timm’s DCAU, as well as the stark painting style of Alex Ross. It also adds a note of drama and seriousness to set up the show. No complaints here!

Why is the lighting in studio a bit off?... Still, great video. The DCAU is one of the best franchises we have. JL and JLU were almost perfect. The voices were spot-on. Susan Eisenberg is the voice I imagine when I read Wonder Woman in the comics.

JL Unlimited (when the cast expanded) had some of my particular faves. Especially theme episodes. Just as how "Legends" was mainly a tribute to Gardner Fox, there was a Fourth World episode with an actor from Laugh In playing Vundabar. There was the Viking Prince story with homages to Joe Kubert, and Epilogue which collected BTAS, Mask of the Phantasm, and Batman Beyond into one neat story.

As a channel all about the DC Animated Universe, I have to be picky (but, mostly solid video): - JL had two other 3-parters, the season 1 finale “The Savage Time” and the season 2/series finale “Starcrossed.” - The “Batman Beyond” theme was written by one of Lolita’s musical partners, Kristopher Carter. - The “Teen Titans” themes were by Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi. - “Batman Beyond” was done by the time of “Justice League”‘s production, and Alan Burnett should definitely count as one of the Feige-like “architects” of the DCAU. - The clip you show for “The Adventures of Batman and Robin” is actually from the Sega CD AOB&R video game. - “Justice League Adventures” is set in a separate continuity from the cartoon, though the intention may have been for it to be the same. - Ain’t nothin’ “arguable” about the continuity of the “Fatal Five” movie. It’s canon. ;)

I preferred the original series to unlimited except that Unlimited gave us, “Am I Blue” I think the series did as well as it did because of Bruce Timms respect and appreciation of Batman as a true lead and someone that could truly hold their own amongst super powered heroes. It’s still some of the best tv I’ve ever seen and I still hold out hope for a new series with Bruce Timm and all the same voice actors.

I'm surprised they're not handing the wheel over to successful animated showrunners. Their success with fans is evident, and while different mediums, animation to live action does translate. It would be interesting to see what Timm/Dini and Crew would do with the live action medium.

I liked unlimited way more. i feel if every episode is a 2 parter, make it an hour long show. dont make me struggle as a kid in the early 2000's to watch both halves of the show when a network never airs them in order on. on binge watch yeah i prefer season 1/2 but on casual watch no way.

Great video!! My son and I used to love this show and the Unlimited version that came next. We also played with the action figures (including the jet and Tower) for hours. I still have all four seasons on DVD. I’ve often said I wish the suits in charge of making the movies would allow these writers to create the stories for their movies. Marvel would stop laughing at them.

Theres no doubt that the DCAU was extremely influential and without it we wouldn't have gotten things like The Incredibles, or the MCU among countless other cartoon series like MCAU , Gargoyles, Big O, Cyber 6, Samurai Jack, and more.

I think the secret ingredient is that the DCAU was always small enough to fail. From Batman to Static to JLU, it was always understood that this season could be its last. The budget could get cut or WB might take the franchise in some other direction. Compare that with their cinematic efforts where it is an axiom of Hollywood there will be a new Batman movie regardless of need. Where the Justice League movie can rake in $800 mil and still be considered a failure. Justice League is a masterpiece in the true sense of the word. Artists and creatives who spent years honing their craft getting to do what they want. My favorite scene was when Batman "unmasks" himself, Supes and Flash. Because of course he would.

Double date episode(s?) with Green Arrow, Black Canary, Huntress, and the muhfuggin QUESTION. THAT was dope. In fact, everything they did with the Question was just... wow. Love this show. 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

it wasn't mentioned by the host, but the intro for Justice League Unlimited is GREAT! both the music and the visuals were a great improvement over the original . Plus the fact that even more of the additional heroes/villains from various DC comics were included... I guess making it even more nostalgic like the original super friends...

watched Super Friends regularly when I was a kid in the 80’s. XMen TAS in the early 90’s too was-just like XMen comics-hugely popular, especially Wolverine. But Batman TAS has for me the darkest yet deepest and most poignant story lines of all. Justice League and JL Unlimited were interesting shows but at the time I was no longer into comics that much (until those recent MCU movies came long.)

My favorite Justice League moment was almost shown in this video, when flash says that his identity a secret because chixdiggit and then Batman turns around and outs all of them to what their real identity is.

Always loved Static Shock, and Batman Beyond. Both I wished they had done more with. I think if they could add a few more to the team, it could be a new and intresting DC label series. Always thought Batman movies where getting old, and not looking what is in their arsenals with properties that are already theirs. Bruce Wayne could be a AI, to lend help as back up when required. Replacing Alfred. Add a few others, I could see some pretty intresting stories. Even Cyborg could join, after all he might have a long life, he's kind of a enigma.

Do you remember "Liquid Television" on MTV? This was a trippy half hour show that mixed animation & live action segments; This is where many were introduced to "Aeon Flux". I vaguely remember an ongoing skit called "Dog Boy". Please make this a future "Things You Didn't Know "
