The key line in the song is (English translation) if you would have asked us respectfully we would have happily gave the water, but the fact the government tried to use bully boy tactics when you’re already oppressing the people of Punjab by attempting to take away it’s resources, not freeing Sikh prisoners who have already served their sentences. Punjab was a Kingdom they took from King in the 1800’s…the British left 1947…Punjab became part of India. Since then the Indian Government is like the British in its Oppression. So basically Punjabis fought for freedom from the British, and now we want freedom from an oppressive regime, Sikhs are a minority- and they are being looted. As soon as Punjab was part of India, in 1950 they started stealing the water…and now 75 years later, it will become a desert…because Punjab can not meet its own water needs… the ground water is all used up, the river water, which is a natural resource of Punjab is given to other states….and this is detrimental to the Ecosystem of Punjab. Punjab will become a desert, and impoverished, they are basically killing off a 5500 year old civilization through their government laws. Sidhu Moosewala was killed by the government…and now his song is banned in India…we only have about 15 years of water before we become a desert, and now they want to take whatever is remaining by building a canal - the SYL….these people are killing our world, our Punjabi culture and identity….and if we speak up we get charged with 295….the sidhu song…what section 295 does is can , it can prison us forever, indefinitely….it’s a scary law….they have total power under this 295 to deny us basic rights, political prisoners….so many locked up indefinitely

Punjab had five rivers, after independence partition of punjab, and 3 rivers remained with us, from these we are giving pretty much water to Neighbouring states, in 80s they purposed one more water sharing treaty, whereas we don't have much water left for us. Gov forcefully made a canal called SYL canal latter our struggle stopped it, but Gov still insisted on its construction. Sidhu added many more stories Related to Punjab's Struggle into this song.
