He literally said that she was amazing, and one of the best woman dancers in the world. He remembers talking company class with her!

The ultimate princess Aurora. Graceful, beautiful, precise, sensitive and royal. Hard to imagine another ballerina in this role and I feel so lucky and priviledged to have seen her live in this role.

The mime during the harp solo w/ Aurora and her parents is one of my favorite moments in SB. Too few people (and some dancers) appreciate the profound importance of mime, in my opinion. Guillem really projects the emotions of this young girl confronted w/ her future as an adult woman.

la plus grande ! immense et quand je la revois si belle si jeune extraordinaire j'ai eu la chance de la voir à Paris dans le lac : c'était tellement hors du commun que la salle de l'opéra retenait son souffle ...et puis l'explosion finale dans une standing ovation un moment inoubliable

meme a Londres...en 1990 pour Raymonda....la salle ne respirait pas pendant la variation de la claque. Son charisme bloquait tous au siege.

One cool thing I haven't seen commented on is the developpes at the beginning of the Rose. I was thinking, "I know her extension is better than this" and then her a la seconde got a little higher with each subsequent developpe. Extremely nice!

Best ever was Cynthia Gregory, who didn't throw away the transition to arabesque. Otherwise probably the most stable balances I've seen (really, watch Cynthia sometime---the vid quality is awful but it's worth it.

@@minissa2009 Cynthia was the quintessential aurora. Not only the balances but the way that she makes her movements look almost unsophisticated, just like a body of a very young girl entering puberty, it was unmatched by any other ballerina that I’ve seen.

it must have been so amazing at the time seeing a ballerina doing things never seen before, such a solid technique and huge extensions.

exactly. It was science fiction. She went where nobody could. But what I recall from those years is the WAY she "served" all that. She was so glorious, easy, charming, elegant, divine. Even the curtain calls were a mini show within the show. Her dancing marked my senses forever.

+Darrius Legrand I hate the Russian version too. Almost no Petipa-style left in it, although they would vociferously claim otherwise. And the whole thing has been dumbed down choreographically and musically to accommodate the limitations of their ballerinas. What I mean by that is, ultra high extensions but incompetent in petit allegro, and strong and supple backs but inflexible feet in their pointework.

C'est sans doute de la pudeur, le refus de minauder qui font qu'elle épure autant son jeu au profit du pur mouvement. Mais je pense que c'est un peu dommage ici parce qu'elle passe un peu à côté du caractère jeune adolescente de la princesse Aurore qui est joyeuse, timide mais pétillante, pas encore hyper royale et aristocratique. A part ça comme toujours sa danse est la plus fabuleusement facile qui soit. (Sauf les mains).

She certainly is perfect technically. And she can portray modesty in a way that few have in this part. Still, there's something missing for me: I never get the feeling that this dancer (and I have videos of her) comes at it from the heart or ever really lets go. I feel she is extremely controlled and coming at the dance from her head. Still, brilliant to watch and in a league all her own with athleticism and technical ability. Just once, I'd like to see her let go a little.
