Kehinde Wiley’s contemporary painting Ship of Fools is on permanent display at the Queen's House in Greenwich.
The painting re-interprets and reimagines the traditions of seascape painting, exploring themes such as migration, dangerous sea crossings and the legacies of the transatlantic slave trade.
As part of Refugee Week 2022, Queen’s House curator Hannah Lyons met Joseph Ijoyemi, contemporary artist and co-founder of The Collective Makers art group, to explore the painting’s rich meaning and symbolism.

Enlightening and informatively entertaining, interesting of the middle passage with the painting. However, I don't like that Madam Hannah describes the fact that Sir Kehinde had to return to Nigeria as a boy as 'unfortunate'. I guarantee you, I 120% guarantee you he wouldn't be the artist he is today without being in touch with his roots. The man is from Nigeria and there is nothing unfortunate about him returning to where he's from. Great video nonetheless.
