Sync 3 Tutorial | How to Access Sync 3 HIDDEN Menu!

Sync 3 is the infotainment system for Ford vehicles. I recently updated to Sync 3.4 in my 2019 Mustang GT. Sync 3.4 update has a lot of cool features, however the best is the hidden Sync 3 menu.
Sync 3 hidden menu is a great way to access diagnostics for your Ford vehicle that has Sync 3. Sync 3 hidden menu also lets you change theme for your Sync 3 infotainment system.
Sync 3 hidden menu works for any Ford vehicle running at least Sync 3.0 software version. Sync 3.4 isn't required to access this hidden menu, however I recommend upgrading to Sync 3.4 system for your Ford Vehicle.

Also when you're in the Testing Settings screen after it runs through that speaker test, if you want you can enable the command: "Enable Testing Settings" This puts that "Hidden Menu" in your main Settings screen, so you don't have to access that "Hidden Menu" by pushing the two skip track buttons, the theme can then be changed by just entering the main settings screen.

Thanks for showing this! Does anything happen if you do the two on the opposite side going to the left with the steering wheel control and the radio control? I’m afraid to do it without knowing what would happen lol

That’s a good question I haven’t tried that yet. I’m thinking nothing will happen since it’s not programmed for it. Although now I’m curious lol

I’m in a 2022 Ford Explorer and I cannot get the screen to switch back to the original and I cannot scroll to the correct diagnostics page now.

Usually if it gets stuck turning off the car and waiting 5-10 mins help. If it’s still stuck I’d suggest removing the battery cable for a bit

On my 2020 mustang GT I switched to the GT350 theme and then back to the original mustang GT but the shutdown is stuck on the 350?!! How do I fix that? Thanks!!

Remove battery for 10 minutes and then put it back in. This should reset the sync settings back to the original. Radio presets and car settings will remain the same.

Unless you have the forscan tool, it won't remain unfortunately. You have to select the them every time you get into the car which is annoying.

The Menu you present is Not a hidden Menu. It actually gets used in some Sync system Diagnostics. The menu you accessed is Called Bezel diagnostics, and is published in Fords workshop Manual on PTS, wsm section 415-00.

Interesting! I think to consumers it's hidden but I agree it's not fully hidden and has a purpose. Similar to engineering mode on the Mustangs

Hey, what’s up man I was able to find after I finally updated those hidden little Easter eggs and I can change that start up logo to Shelby so the snake comes up and when I shut the car off the snake appears but every time I start the car back up the mustang appears and that goes back to Mustang in the city. How do you get that this stay?

You need the Forscan tool for it to be permanent otherwise it will always go back to cars original background in our case the mustang

Doesn't work on sync 3.0. Yes i accessed the speaker test and the test settings. I changed the theme and enabled the test settings. Resets back to the factory setting as soon as you shut off the vehicle.

Leave the car locked for 10 mins and it should reset. Worst case unplug the battery for couple mins

Hold power button and fast forward to reset if you are having trouble reverting back. :)

The only Nav Maps I have are when I hook up my Android phone with Android Auto and it displays Google Maps on the screen!!!.. 2020 Ford Explorer XLT.

That happens whenever the vehicle is starting up. It is still booting the system so it takes awhile for voice commands to be ready.

Do you know why mine won’t work I did the update everything right but it only works when I shut down after doing it. If I turn it back on and off it goes back to the horse? I keep trying over and over and even re updated it still no luck

We need the ForScan tool to be able to have the themes permanently. Otherwise it would always revert back to the original themes in our case the Mustang logo.

Arrrrg... I tried playing with the menus and now I'm in a mode that does not allow me to view anything on my main Navi screen. IE: When I start the car up, the main navi screen just displays source and a couple other minor radio options.... with no way to actually select any other options. Now if I press the two right arrows the same almost blank screen comes up. Any idea how to get back to the default??

The Testing Settings option no longer comes up when I press the two right arrow keys, so I can't get it back into Mustang GT mode

Never mind... I had to disconnect the battery terminal and wait 15 minutes.... Now the Navi screen (and all controls) appear when I start the car.

Yup it's odd the screen stayed after shutting the car, but that was going to be my suggestion too that try unhooking the battery. I am glad that helped out. Did you find interesting in the menus?

I did this and now my display is in really big font and cannot get back to any menus. Any tips on how to reset display? It’s pretty much useless right now.

I have had that happen once. Turn off the car and leave it for 10 mins then come back in and it should be reset.

I found another video on resetting…press and hold power and skip button for about 10 seconds, resets the screen and seems to have worked.

Yes unfortunately that’s true. You need Forscan tool to keep it permanently

Problem is, it wont stay permanent. It resets everytime you turn the car off then on.

I don’t think this works on cars using FDRS. I have a ranger that’s on sync 3 but uses FDRS and this trick doesn’t work. Almost every other car on sync 3 uses IDS though.

@@Red5oh No,whatever was on the screen when I do this nothing changes,your Mustang only took a few seconds I tried it several times and held it for at least ten seconds or longer and nothing changed,I wish I could try this it seems pretty cool.

You guys like to brag that you found this hidden feature so you can change your wall paper and splash screen. But what you are not telling everyone is it is only temporary. As soon as you shut the car off and start it again it loads to your default settings. This is useless information.

@Red5oh Read a couple of articles where that feature was disabled. It's not a big deal to me. I wish the chosen display screen would stay that way instead of reverting back every time.

It should work on sync 3.4 as that is what I have. I have had it once where it didn't work. Make sure to lock the car and unlock it before trying again
