Since you asked about different controllers, I just got the M-Vave SMK 25 Mk.2 - quite similar but has some unique features that I think are huge plusses over the Synido: 1) Bluetooth connection - absolutely fantastic and also means you can add several controllers without having to worry about USB hubs, power, etc. You can go wired if you prefer. 2) Separate IOS app for easy config and saving and loading of presets.

That’s one I haven’t actually had chance to play. I have checked out the specs online though. Looks like a very fair price - a little cheaper than the Synido but without the Arpeggiator. It’s always awesome to have purpose made software for the controller. What’s the keybed like and pad sensitivity? I realise Bluetooth is a selling point for a lot of people but I’m not a fan of it at all personally.

@@JamieMallenderWere you looking at the Mk. 2 or the original version? The Mk.2 has an arpeggiator (dedicated ARP button with up/down/incl/excl/random/order/repeat functions) as well as a smart scale/Chord mode. As for the bluetooth - yeah, I didn't think I'd want to use that, just use the wired function, but in reality it's really good - allows me to connect a midi keyboard AND midi mixer and then plugin in my Rode mic directly into my Ipad, since the USB-C port is free. Keybed is ok - I've played on much worse and pads are not bad either. I can't really give a firm opinion, since feel and preference is so subjective. What I can say is that I also have a Nectar Aruba for my PC DAW and I don't find the pads on the M-Vave to be something to be overly annoyed about. There is also a function to change keybed and pad velocities and the manual talks about after touch, but I haven't checked that out yet. I think for the added functionality and dedicated software, it's a great piece of kit for the price.

@@NephaulauxI must’ve seen the Mark 1 then. That does sound like a lot of controller for the money. One of the problems we have these days with purchasing any kind of hardware is the fact that we rarely get chance to try anything. People are very dependant on things like KZfaq reviews. It makes the job tough when there are so many options in the same price bracket. It is entirely possible that whichever company sends out the most free (for demo) controllers to the most KZfaqrs will be the best selling manufacturer in that area. Scary times! So I take it quite seriously but can’t afford to buy and try them all. I do have a lot of opportunity to try things though and I have to say - the pads on the Synido are the best I’ve tried. Keybed is really nice. But, lack of app, omission of Bluetooth and the ability to change the midi channel for the keys are negatives I didn’t think were too terrible in this price bracket. But it’s such a competitive corner of the market - 25 key controller wars! £5 difference might make the decision for a buyer comparing specs online but if you could walk into a shop and try them, the decision might be different. The world is a bit weird now.

@@JamieMallender No worries at all - wasn’t trying to get on your back about it at all - just trying to let you know the specs. Yes, it’s becoming like music - so much product out there, it’s impossible to keep track of everything. I just thought I’d mention the SMK Mk 2 because it seems to be good, especially when linked to their midi mixer. Like the fact that I can connect both controllers and keep my iPad charging and connected to my USB hub for audio samples.

Cool, I assume it's class compliant so will work with other OS's. Also, the fact you can set functionality on the device rather than messing about with editor software is a HUGE plus. This thing is at the top of my list if I ever replace my Keith Mc Millen K-Board 🖖 Edit: Chuff it. I'm gonna get one next payday. Looks like a no brainer 😺

It is my friend. Class Compliant and super purple! Or see through black! It’s a very cool controller. No Bluetooth connectivity though which is something I really should have said in the video. That’s a fail on my part but I don’t like Bluetooth so it didn’t occur to me. ✌️✌️✌️✌️

Jamie, thanks for this excellent review of the K25. It looks good! Just checked on Amazon - only $99, which is a great price. I've had a few 25-key controllers from other mfgs, and wasn't happy with any of them - keys too narrow, cheap build quality, sticky pads, or on others (as you brilliantly put it, " like pushing biscuits through treacle" 🤣). For this price, the K25 looks much better than any others I've seen. With two of these Synido products under your belt, use your clout to nudge them to make a really good 49-key MIDI controller also 😺 Thanks again for this good walkthrough!

Hey David! Always nice to hear from you. I think that’s an excellent idea. I have numerous controllers now. Most have been sent to me for demo. I keep wondering whether I would be better taking some off my desk and having one 49 key controller with a lot of functions on. I think a big daddy version of this one with some faders added, 5 pin midi out and Bluetooth for those that like it - that could be the very thing. I’ll see what I can do. 😁

@kentaccordionist 5 ай бұрын
Nice one Jamie. Were I in the market for another controller I would consider this for the fact it comes in purple, my favourite colour. I like that you can switch between different banks for the knobs and pads. Some faders would have been nice, and they should have made the knobs continuous. Also it wouldn’t hurt manufacturer’s to add a joystick for x,y control of vector synths etc. My favourite controller is my Code 61, which has a great keybed action, aftertouch, 8 continuous knobs, 9 faders for complete control of organ drawbars, an x,y pad 16 very sensitive pads, and full transport controls. Oh and proper 5 pin din midi as well as usb. And you can have up to 4 keyboard splits, each to separate Chanel’s.
@JamieMallender
@JamieMallender 5 ай бұрын
I guess it comes down to space. I would love to see a larger version with 3 octaves and some faders and 5 pin midi. A joystick is cool but I find they break easily when throwing them in my backpack irresponsibly. Hang on, that sounds like a me problem! 😂 continuous knobs make more sense for multiple banks but I’m never really sure which I prefer to operate. It depends on the task I guess.
@kentaccordionist
@kentaccordionist 5 ай бұрын
@@JamieMallender continuous knobs make for easier editing of sound as you can control your function from whatever point it is set to, rather than starting with a huge jump in cc values. If you are using the same controller to control multiple synths they insure you are always ready to make even the smallest changes with ease using just the one controller. Otherwise you might need one controller per synth, especially when working in a live environment.
@JamieMallender
@JamieMallender 4 ай бұрын
@@kentaccordionist very true. I totally dig that, but sometimes if I’m just concentrating on one synth or effect then I like to have the knobs behave like old fashioned start and stop knobs - so that when I turn it up to 10 it hits the wall so to speak. I suppose it’s an excuse to have multiple controllers 🙂

Thx, Jamie. I just bought the Akai Pro MPK Mini Plus (got it for a few bucks off) because, as a keyboard player, 25 keys is just a bit too limiting. But this looks like a great option for many!
@JamieMallender
@JamieMallender 4 ай бұрын
Hello my friend! I totally see that. I’m not a fan of 25 keys myself even though I’m a terrible keyboard player. But, I like to have a small controller with lots of options - pads and turny nobs and a few keys as a second keyboard controller so I can assign different controllers to different things. Then the 25 key controller gets thrown in my backpack for those occasions I can work out and about. 4 octaves is ideal. 3 is workable. But space is an issue. I’ve got a Poly 800 taking up a lot of space on my desk at the moment but I love it so what can I do? 😂😂😂😂

Hey Grant! And I must get myself one that doesn’t suck! 😂 I bought mine in lockdown and to be fair, it was cheap and it has always sucked. It’s a bit of a boring thing to buy though…. 😂 makes no sounds or stupid noises whatsoever! But it doesn’t deliver enough power so sometimes one of my controllers will just not come on until I switch a different one off. 🤯

Hmm?? That looks like an akai MK1 You are comparing too… the mk3 has a much better keybed compared to MK1 (in my opinion) It does look like a pretty decent controller for the price!! Nice video buddy! Keep it up!
@JamieMallender
@JamieMallender 5 ай бұрын
Well spotted sir! The 3rd version of that controller does have a much better keyboard but this is nicer. I think AKAI stuff is good - but maybe not the best available. But they have the name and people buy what everyone else buys. It must be good, my favourite KZfaqr (who got it free) uses it. I feel that they lean on that name a little too much and that makes companies like Synido come out of the woodwork fighting - with all the features at a great price.

Thanks Jamie. You may not have covered everything but you covered the important bits, which is what matters. You have me very interested in it as I've been considering a new controller for quite some time. Not a fan of purple but at least it's dark purple and black is available. Nothing you said really seems like a negative to me. One question I have is, how does it compare in overall size to an MPK Mini Mk3 (or similar)? It seems a little smaller which is a big advantage for me as space is tight here.
@JamieMallender
@JamieMallender 4 ай бұрын
Dude! According to the specs online for the MPK Mini Mk3 it is 2cm smaller in width than the TempoKEY but the same depth. This is probably because the keys on the TempoKEY are slightly bigger than the average mini key controller.

@@JamieMallender Cheers Jamie. I don't know why I didn't look up the specs myself, ddn't even think of it, I guess I kinda thought you might have one there. Just need to find a UK seller for it now. Synido sell it themselves for £80 (with shipping included), which is great but that doesn't include customs tax. I'll have to see if that can be worked out. Thanks again and hope you are doing well.

Ahhh crap…the pitch and modulation strips are a complete deal breaker for me….I hate using strips for those functions. Right now I have a Akai mpk mini and a Korg Microkey Air, and while the Korg lacks the knobs , pads or buttons that the Mpk mini has, I use it more because it’ has Bluetooth midi and 37 keys. I really wish more of these keyboard controllers had Bluetooth midi.
