Glad you liked the video. The amazing thing is that each piece of their stuff is powerful and unique in their own way, and we are free to mix and match to suit our needs. I have had all of their boxes at one point or another. The ones I use the most are the Octatrack, Syntakt, Analog Rytm, and Digitakt, but they all have their place. Also, it really depends on use and workflow preferences. Thank you so much for watching!

i enjoyed ur chill/informative discussion. i bought a digitakt a while ago and loved the interface and industrial design but i dont really need a device like it. i had been looking for an analog drummachine somewhere between a drumbrute and a rytm. i almost bought an analoug four to use like that so i was quite excited when i heard about syntakt. a stripped down cheaper version would have been preferable for me but i still ordered one to try since functionally its exactly what i had been looking for.

@@SURCOlive I'm not sure! I'm still trying to decide. I was set in the analog rytm for a month but now I'm ready to purchase I'm having second thoughts. Now I'm thinking of purchasing the digitakt & syntakt for about the same price as just a rytm. What would you choose between the two? Producing gnarly tech tunes, will be running a couple external synths as well. I started this journey looking for a drum machine.
@SURCOlive
@SURCOlive Жыл бұрын
For running other synths the Digitakt and Syntakt are awesome. Lots more channels that route too. Lots of room for expansion if you add any more synths over time. Rytm rules for sound design because for the sample/synth layering capability. Thanks for watching!

Another excellent discussion; thank you. I’m spending most of my time with the Syntakt, but I hope to pair it with my Octatrak at some point. How to set up octatrack for looping the syntakt
@michaelwalsh6913
@michaelwalsh6913 2 жыл бұрын
Well, I have not actually done this yet, so I hope @SURCO chimes in on his setup details. But what I’m planning to do is feed the Syntakt outputs to a “thru machine” on the Octatrack so I can combine the sounds from the ST with samples and do typical cool things like pitch and time shifting, etc. Set up track 8 as the master track for the Octatrack and a separate track as a “pickup machine” that is constantly recording the last 64 bars (for example) of what is playing on the master track. I find using pickup machines a little complicated, but you can find details in chapter 9 of the Octatrack manual. Hope this helps.
@SURCOlive
@SURCOlive 2 жыл бұрын
@@michaelwalsh6913 sounds like a great setup. I actually use a performance template made by another KZfaq EZBOT. It has two ‘sides’ of inputs and three loop recording buffers recording the two sides and the master. Definitely check out his videos on how he made it. It’s where I learned and he’s much better at it than I am.

@SURCOlive

Syntakt is a great tool to have. If you need an analog voice, a digital voice, some great analog effects, midi tracks, etc, it is very cool. I actually love to sketch on the Syntakt using the internal voices, then swap the tracks to become MIDI and send to other machines in the studio. I love having 12 mono synths in one box. SO much ability to mix and match. That said, you have most of those features between DT and 'multiple synths'. I just love that it's like a Swiss army knife in one box. Thanks so much for watching!

Thanks for making this video; It's a really great overview/comparison for these machines. Having only found your channel I need to watch the other videos, but you're the first person I've heard using the Syntakt completely melodically. I've got an A4 MkI that I love the flexibility/sound design features of, but the workflow is clunky compared to the Digitakt/Digitone. I'm curious if the Syntakt can replace it so will go through and see if you have more info on the synthesis side of that device.

Good call. I couldn't jive with the 1010 blackbox and had trouble with midi stuff with it and also trouble with customer service from that company which left a sour taste in my mouth for any other future buys from them!

@@BrockDavisson It's funny, my guy I traded with loved it and the Bluebox...for a while...they aren't in his current live hardware setup though...which is all Elektron gear. So, that's a testament to Elektron and what inspired me to learn the "workflow". It's been a process but it's hard to walk by the Digi without getting some of those addictive clicks in. He just received his Syntakt and I checked it out...doing my best to fight G.A.S. and just use what I got, which is more than enough to make the tunes I want to make.

@@SURCOlive You are welcome. I am in search of exactly what you did here, making best choice between picking up a used Syntact and the new Digi2. Dont need to jump into anything, meaning, my gear has been in storage between moves and I get to open them this weekend. Getting ready for a birthday list, and I have not checked your channel for something on the new machine. have watched many ofyour vids on MIDI and routing, truly appreciate your knowledge

26:41 Fantastic comparison, thanks. It would be great to see a video comparing the sequencing capabilities of the Elektrons with those of the Deluge/Polyend/MPC/Roland/Perkons/etc varieties.

Thanks! I had thought about some of those comparisons in the past, but there is really nothing else that compares to the Elektron sequencers. Each you mentioned have awesome things about them (I had Deluge, MPC, and TR8s, and I still have a Perkons), but they are still miles behind the Elektrons and losing ground with every release. Even stand alone sequencers like the OXI One, Torso, and Hapex do some things better, but still can't easily parameter lock conditionally per step any parameter in the machines. The only way is with cumbersome CC messages that all have to be preplanned. The Elektrons are great for doing this stuff live. Thanks so much for watching!
