your videos are truly fantastic. it's obvious you have a true understanding of the material because you give tangible examples and explain them all the way through, you even try to answer the questions you think are natural to ask to help us, the viewers, understand better. most of the videos on here have an extreme amount of information shoved in seven minutes without any examples. you obviously have a knack for teaching, it's so refreshing to see!! it would be great if you'd consider doing a video on concatenative vs non concatenative morphology!!

I really enjoy your videos on linguistics and the different aspects of linguists. I really learned a lot from them and learn to appreciate linguistics more. To be honest I watched other videos about linguistics and I did not really understand, but with your videos i understood everything clearly. I actually stayed up late learning about syntax. I started by watching syntax (part 1) without knowing anything about it, I watched part 2 and part 3, and now I can confidently say that I know what is syntax, the phrase structure rules and the tree structure diagrams. You explained it so well and in an understandable manner. I'm not sure if you'll see this but , I would like to thank you for your time and effort in posting these videos to help others understand linguistics like me. I really appreciate it. God bless you. What if the student wrote his thesis ON acid instead of on paper? --- 3rd possible meaning.
@evanashworth4909 жыл бұрын
Artist You're right--it's definitely another possible meaning, but the tree structure for that meaning would be the exact same as the one used for the second meaning in the video (that the student wrote his thesis under the influence of acid). That is, the PP "on acid" would be connected to the VP node, as it is qualifying the action of writing (as a verb) not the thesis. Hope that helps!

For those who did not understand the last example, google for definition of "man". Definition of 'man' as a Noun: adult male ('the man' as in 'the males'). Definition of 'man' as a Verb: to manage/operate/tend ('to man boats' means 'to be in charge of the boats/to take care of the boats'). So in the last example, it means old people are managing the boats / tending to the boats / in charge of the boats (aka manning the boats) P.s Thank you sir for the clear and concise explanation!
