I forgot to tell you that you can heat the product at 300°C to convert any unreacted aluminium hydroxide to aluminium oxide

Can you do the same thing for Gadolinium and Gallium to produce the oxide of these? Also wondering if Gadolinium oxide has similar magnetic properties of the metal. At around 20c Gadolinium becomes ferromagnetic. Gadolinium might make an interesting ferrofluid but would rather use an oxide.

@Molybdenum The end product is not aluminium oxide, it´s aluminium hydroxide!

No brother the end product is aluminium oxide because aluminium hydroxide is insoluble in water but it precipitate out which indicate that it is aluminium oxide

@@Molybdenum-h You´re getting it wrong, pal! This is the reaction between aluminium chloride and sodium carbonate: 2 AlCl3 + 3 Na2CO3 + 3 H2O = 2 Al(OH)3 + 6 NaCl + 3 CO2 Unfortunately that site is wrong, because what really happens it that aluminium can´t form a stable carbonate since the hypothetical aluminium carbonate is thermodynamically unstable. Because of that it reacts immediately with water to form aluminium hydroxide which is stable: Al2(CO3)3 + 3 H2O = 2 Al(OH)3 + 3 CO2

@@Molybdenum-h Like I mentioned earlier, it´s aluminium hydroxide. If you want the oxide just heat it to more or less 600 ºC to dehydrate it and decompose it.
