Guitarist Daron (Malakian) was on lead vocals... He was the backing singer to Serj (Tankian) on lead vocals... but as System of a Down recorded their last 2 albums ('Mesmerize' & 'Hypnotize')... there were apparently creative conflicts between Daron & Serj. As a result, Daron said something about him doing lead vocals if Serj was not feeling the song. That was why Daron was on lead vocals on quite a few songs including 'Lonely day'... When S.O.A.D. was on the Ozzfest 2006, all 4 members were reportedly traveling on separate tour buses. Eventually, System of A Down stopped making records... Serj started his solo career in 2007... Daron formed another band Scars on Broadway... They mutually agreed to touring again as System of a Down but Serj is not down w/ making any new records w/ the band.

That sucks because their harmonies are my favorite of any bad.

I spent 10 years in the Infantry and deployed 4 times. I used to pray for fire fights just to break up the monotony of the loneliness and the never ending waiting.

On the FIRE everywhere...random things are burning everywhere but nobody pays any attention. Adds to the isolation if one feels he/she is only one that can see it. It's the most loneliest day of his life yet all the band members are right there but nobody is talking to each other... message there too. Thanks for checking out some cool jams.

Empty Walls is a great song to react, too, from Serj Tankien, the lead singer of SOAD.

Great reaction/reviews! I like that you not only listen to the song, but you analyze the lyrics and the meaning of the song. That's why I'm a member. This is a new song for me, too, I really like it. Not being a celebrity, I haven't experienced this directly, but i can imagine that it's hard. It's difficult enough to do a 9 to 5. I have experienced being in a room full of people and feeling totally alone. I guess this is true for a lot of people, but no one talks about it. Much love!! ❤❤

They're all Armenians BP. I'd say this is a huge part of their approach to music.

Should dive into Serj Tankians(lead vocals) solo stuff. For example Empty Walls is bonkers and think that’s his first Solo Album after they split

One of the things I always loved about this song, is how absolutely simple the lyrics are, to the point of not even being grammatically correct. It makes it feel so accessible and relatable, just speaking what you're feeling even if it doesn't make a whole lot of sense (like banning a lonely day). It's also really short. Just saying its piece before moving on. Great song from a great album.

I also felt this song was about the personal loneliness you feel reguardless of who is around you. The lyric "such a lonely day, and its mine" is the most telling spot in this song. He is completely owning this loneliness as sonething that is just within him reguardless of who is around him. Lonliness doesnt always mean you are alone. But its a really beautiful song and I love that last line 😊

Im a father of the worlds two most wonderful kids and have a beautiful and caring girlfriend, but I too can experience the exact same feeling you are describing. When I heard you put it into words I just broke and cried ❤ Really good reaction and I really think you felt this song ❤

I totally agree with you man. You have days when your around people that make you happy but in your head you feel lonely and depressed. I worked nights for several years just myself and it's insane how lost you can get in your own thoughts my mental health was at an all time high over COVID but thank god recently just got a day job being around people being more social getting off at normal hours day by day it was a much needed change in my life.

i've just noticed a pink floyd reference in this music video, years before, maybe? at 3:55 there's 2 people shaking hands more like the album cover Wish You Were Here from Pink Floyd, if it is a true refence that's awesome, or it could be just one coincidence?

That loneliness you're describing even in the middle of everything and everyone, yes it's a mental thing, but I think it's also more exclusively a MAN thing.

i gotta say, the reason i watch reaction vids is because it makes me look deeper into the music i listened to on REPEAT back in that time and i guess my gen was saturated with so much real music that we didnt appreciate it quite as much as we should have.
