Awesome. Nice to see cutting from the parry as done in actual fencing.

Thanks for keeping up with the sabre vids, honestly rekindled my interest in polish sabre. That and I came across a polish batorowka sword that I was able to add to my collection. Absolute beast of a sword.

Thank you! Great to see that my videos help people to enjoy what they like! Keep in mind, though, that I neither practice nor know a lot about Polish sabre fencing - I'm just a guy who does British Military Sabre and who happens to like Polish sabres ;)

Nice. Historically In Poland, thin elastic willow branches were cut with sabres as a practice. Willow branch will bend if You mess up edge alignment or a cut is too slow. Since You are an owner of a Polish saber...

Hi, I just stumbled upon your channel a few weeks ago and it's so cool! I've been thinking about getting into sabre fencing once it's possible again and I was wondering if you'd ever considered doing a video on gear needed for sabre sparring? Danke und Grüße aus Berlin!

Hey Nick, I enjoyed this video, It was interesting I was wondering if it’s fine to use an antique saber for cutting? I want to get an 1860 saber from the American civil war and use it for medium cutting here and there

The History & Sabre Suite Ah, yes that makes a lot of sense. I don’t have experience with the thumb ring because I spend almost all of my time with chinese sabers. There are some interesting similarities and differences between european and asian sabers and their systems. So it is nice to watch your channel and because eastern european sabers are underrepresented on youtube!

Thanks for the video! It really makes me wonder of the reliability of cutting though... When it works it looks great, but when it doesn’t it looks like a baseball bat would be more effective. I imagine it would be even less reliable when trying under stress!
@historyandsabre
@historyandsabre 3 жыл бұрын
Welcome, thanks for watching. Well, good point but when it doesn't work it really is bad technique and/or edge alignment. Same has happened to me with Albion swords. The "baseball effect" is purely user error.
@Riceball01
@Riceball01 3 жыл бұрын
Cutting water bottles and milk carton is a demonstration of skill and not the effectiveness of the weapon. If you get your edge alignment wrong cutting a person, I'm pretty sure that it's still going to cut them, it just might not be as deep or as good of a cut. But I doubt that you'll just bounce off a person like a baseball bat if you get your edge alignment off, a human doesn't give like a water bottle/milk carton does, it's going to take the full force of the cut no matter what.

Hehe, good observation. The fact that I speak in a somewhat higher voice in English is just the way I happen to have trained myself in English. I'm pretty sure that wouldn't have been the case if it were my first language. Cheers!

@@historyandsabre well your English is quite good. I didn't even catch your accent until going back after hearing you speak German and listening for it. The word "it" sounded a bit German (like when saying bitte) on the second listen, but otherwise you could have easily passed for just having an obscure villages local accent.
