This simulation shows the impact of the 125mm 3BM60 APFSDS with a Tungsten Alloy penetrator being fired from a Russian T-90A tank at a range of 1.2km, targeting the front hull of a Ukrainian T-64BM Bulat tank with Nozh (Knife) ERA.
The T-64BM Bulat is a heavily modified variant of the T-64B main battle tank. The main modifications to the T-64BM consist of the installation of a newer KBA-3 cannon to replace the 2A46M-1 cannon, a new autoloader with reduced motor diameter, the installation of the Nozh reactive armour package, a new commanders cupola, and a new set of gunners optics.
The broken pieces of the penetrator still possess significant kinetic energy but are also highly destabilized at the same time. In a real situation, a 3BM60 would cause significant damage to the composite armor, as some approximations were made here to reduce computational time, which took more than 90 hours.
One of the biggest issues the T-64B has is that it’s using a cast turret. This significantly limits the ability to alter the armour profile of the turret, or to upgrade it.

For those who are upset about the outcomes of this simulation, I would like to clarify that this is an April Fools' simulation. I'm surprised that no one mentioned the release date of the video!

I think this video is Perfect. I told last time, and I will say again - Andrei bt - or btvt dot info. DIG in - there is all info that you need. There was a tests before with Tandem warhead from RPG-29, that penetrated 800+ test plate....there is pictures ! and tank side reactive armor where is two layers of NOZ, almost stops it. Only 30-40mm penetration was in tank side armor where is 80mm. There is also a pictures of OFL 120 F1 round…….that was cut in peaces ! Better make a M829A3 with T-84 OPLOT hull armor. Because there is a pic (Andrei bt page) where you can see two layers of NOZ in hull armor.

@@olgertshomics9088that was DUPLET ERA that cutted the projectile into pieces which is basically 3 layers of NOZH in the sides and 2 layers in the front

@@AlexanderK9519 For the test with OFL 120 F1 was one layer of NOZ. Please check your data. In Oplot tank side ERA blocks there is 3 layers....correct.

As expected, the cumulative jet damaged the projectile. In the photographs from the tests we see a similar result.

It looks like the armour pulverized the Tungsten Penetrator. There is definitely Something wrong in this Simulation. Look like the hardness were the same of the penetrator and the Armour in your data

To counteract a cumulative jet, density and not hardness is important.

I really doubt this penetration is accurate, nozh has been confirmed to break apart only old steel projectiles, 3bm60 would only be slightly damaged but not completely ripped apart as this simulation shows.

Bro its western biased channel when he used Relikt ERA against M829A3 it exploded before even touching the ERA while in these Simulation NOZH explodes at the right moment to disrupt the round completely and cut it off

@@AlexanderK9519 True, M829A4 was developed to defeat Relict, yet in his simulation A3 almost penetrated T-90M with Relict, while in this simulation 3BM60 (The best Russian round in service currently!!) didint even leave a dent in the T-64BM, which is for all intents and purproses, an old soviet era T-64BV with Nozh ERA slapped on it. I dont think Nozh is a bad ERA, but having the simulation show the best russian round not even penetrating the first plate is just straight up bias.

@@quan-uo5ws only the 3BM42 was disrupted that much and it was against DUPLET which is basically three layers of NOZH, M829A4 would still find it a bit difficult to fully penetrate with RELIKT and the DUPLET respectively since they are too advanced and heavy ERA, there is a video where LOSAT failed to penetrate against RELIKT go check it far more accurate Simulation channels than these one

Practice says the opposite, there is a video of the T-80 hitting the T-64BM in the frontal projection. Yes, the distance there was 500 meters, but the tank was destroyed. A video where the t-80 was standing behind trees, and the t-64 was moving along the road, the t-80 drove out, shot and destroyed.

Nozh ERA is not as effective against APFSDS as this simulation shows. Many other simulation channels using more data show that Nozh ERA's shaped charges do not have the mass required to break through a tungsten rod, and is much more effective at disrupting the explosively formed jet of HEAT-FS and HEAT warheads in ATGMs.

What software do you use to compute the simulation? Does it only run on the CPU? There is a potential for much higher computational speed if the calculations could be offloaded to a higher-end video card, which possess very many cores relative to current Intel and AMD CPUs. Of course, if this software runs single-threaded (one core only), then a lot more work would be required to make it multi-thread. Just a thought, since you remarked that this simulation took 90 hours of computation time.

No simulation software will run on only the CPU, of course it runs on a gpu or more than one. Simulations like this are incredibly hard to make and very hard to render the insane amount of physics that goes and and to get it kind of correct

Finally correct simulation !!! PS. Andrei bt page have also pictures from France Leclerc APFSDS rounds that was cut in peaces when rounds hit ERA blocks. Overall AMAZING WORK MAN ! Thanks

results would be mostly the same in this instance. if you slice up the oncoming round then you take away most of its ability to penetrate. the west had this type of armor a long time ago too, but didnt use it for 3 main reasons. 1st because its useless vs Heat. 2nd their wasn't really a need for it sense they could just change the armor packages on stuff like abrams or challenger with different materials, thicknesses, angles and layers. 3rd The big thing is the west retires its old MBTs, it doesnt keep wasting money upgrading them when they become hopelessly obsolete. a modern (or even 30 year old) ATGM or Heat round will go right through this armor and knife type era no problem.

@@TheAngriestGamer.I don't think HEAT charges will do much of anything against THIS armor: this is the front armor. But top attack missiles can punch straight through the much weaker armor on top of the tank, since it's a lot weaker than this armor.

@@JAnx01HOW TF WOULD IT DO THAT if to even activate, it needs to be struck by a heat round first?? meaning the heat round is already past the area that the blades would cut and has already detonated and punched through.. think man, you and NK-qn6qp chat bot need to use ur brain. this type of ERA is PURE anti-dart, NOT anti heat, and its NOT a gen 3 hybrid era thats effective against both.. it ONLY works vs darts because darts are long, when the tip strikes the era and sets it off, the charges pop and slice up the rest of the dart.. None of that will work/apply to Heat which has already formed the jet and punched though, the act of doing so is what causes this ERA to activate and shocker, it will miss.

I think there is a small mistake, there is no T-64 Bulat. The "Bulat" is a derivative of the T80 = T-84-> "Bulat". In order to be able to export this tank at all, it was given a 120 mm on-board cannon. It never went into series production and only 10 or 12 examples were built. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

It is T-64BM bulat, it is a deep modernization of T-64b series. Export modification of T-84 has 120mm and is called T-84-120 Yatagan(scimitar). All rights for T-80 belong to Ukraine

Looks like a crooked simulation. And in any other simulations, the projectile passes at least the first armor plate. But in this case, the shell couldn’t even penetrate the first one, as if it were made of tungsten cardboard.

Official trials show about 40% reduction in penetration ability of projectile hit with "nozh" and were conducted on older projectiles, so as long as there is more then 400mm total pen it should go through

Very weird, previous simulation has shown that Nozh damages the penetrator, but it doesn’t completely disintegrate. US uranium and Russian tungsten alloy are not very different

@@AlexanderK9519 Probably because of the weight, as these are quite bulky, not to mention that i never saw anything involving shaped charge resistance of the Nizh ERA. Most tanks today use ERA mainly for HEAT protection, and only a couple have heavy ERA for boosting KE protection. I can also think of how much more dangerous these linear EFPs are compared to the forward-moving plate of an average ERA. When you consider that tanks today are very frequently used with infantry nearby, you could make a hit on a tank become dangerous on a much bigger area.
