Chris, thanks for all you do for the tuba community. It’s remarkable. Very few people are so generous with their time and knowledge.

Chris, you really should purchase that Miraphone Hagen. Nothing before or since on this channel has sounded as good.

I am a Japanese tuba player. I was moved by your sound. I've only been playing tuba for a year, but I'll ask you a question. How can I make a warm sound of tuba? I'm sorry I'm not good at English.

たっつんつんのチューバ吹き Think about your air doing the work, not your lips buzzing. Your tone quality sounds like it has too much of your lips buzzing and not enough air. If you blow enough air your sound will come naturally. がんばってね!

You should try and do a review of the Adams 6/4 CC tuba, I had the chance to play one last week, blew my mind. So did the price though...

Thanks for doing this video, Chris! I’m intrigued by the black material on the side of the horn. Looks like it’s going a good job holding the horn up on your lap. What is it and where do you get it? Thanks again

PhilTubes , they’re simply cell phone dashboard sticky pads. Amazon sells them under the name “Jelly Sticky Pad”. Buy the cheapest ones you can...they’re thinner and work better.

Dang it... and I had just talked myself out of switching back to BBb... back to indecision...

I guess I'm a "youngster". I won't go into too much depth, but I had a dream where I met Mr. Olka in a park and I couldn't stop myself from crying. I didn't know what to do. I didn't feel worthy. After a while, I tried to engage in conversation but I was beyond nervous.

So this is kind of an odd request because you had said you weren't going to do Wessex for a little, but they had released a big 6/4 BBb (the Wessex Prokofiev) and I know it's an odd request but the reason why I'm asking is because I'm trying to look into the horn and all, but the thing that is pushing me to ask is that a player who had played CC since 1971 (only adding an F later) and owns the MW Baer had gotten the Prokofiev and just swapped to BBb (only bringing out the Baer for "notey" stuff). (If anyone knows anything about the horn I would love to find out more! (Cause I've just been digging around the internet for now))

I'm an adult beginning tuba player originally from Virginia, but presently living in the UK. I'm also of a smaller stature, so the 4/4 and 5/4 tubas are a bit too large for me. It would be very helpful if Chris could make some recommendations for student-level, 3/4 tubas and "move up" instruments for students who are ready to move up to a more advanced instrument. Thanks

Well, the 562 is pretty massive to be labeled 4/4, but being in England right now, have you tried any 4/4 Eb tubas? Those might serve you pretty well physically, and they should do everything you'll ever need to. I'm actually loosely planning on buying an Eastman 853 for my own first personal tuba. It's a front action Eb compensator.

Chris, just out of curiosity, what mouthpiece do you happen to be using on this tuba? What have you found to work well? Is it mouthpiece sensitive?
@cheers6235 жыл бұрын
I’ve used a few on it and like the old PT10 I have the most. Also tried a TU29 and TU43. Doesn’t seem too sensitive.

Wow! Glad to see the BB tuba making progress! Is there anything you can tell us regarding the development of their F tuba?
@cheers6235 жыл бұрын
Thomas Kinder The German f tuba is pretty much finished. The piston f is still a ways out. I’ve got the prototype right now. Stay tuned.

@@cheers623 that's awesome! I wonder, in your T&E video (that I assume you'll be doing for it?) would you mind commenting as well as playing select solo work and how it would fit as a solo instrument? Vaughn William's concerto and such. As always, absolutely love your videos!

Tell me, is this tuba analogous to the German one? B&S gr51?
@cheers623 Жыл бұрын
It is similar to the GR51, but slightly different manufacturing process. The EBB825 is quite different. It has a bigger bell, different bore-size in the valve-set and option of 5th valve. Also different wrap of the valve-slides.

Did you ever end up getting the miraphone Haugen? I guess being that you’re an Eastman artist means that you abandoned that idea and now are playing something like this instead. You sounded really special on Haugen!
@cmw124 жыл бұрын
Good question. I agree - he has never sounded better than he did on the Hagen.
@ertatta4 жыл бұрын
I’d imagine he’s quite aware of this. I think maybe the industry will be changing in the future.

Hey, I’m a tuba player working to join the military band. I was wondering, what helps to pull off the higher register without it seeming like a challenge?
@jesseboozer40624 жыл бұрын
I'm also in a similar situation. A faster airstream keeping the embouchure engaged seems to be the answer I get, but executing that concept is a different thing. I've been working on chromatic scales and lip slurs up there and that has been helping me but if you have any other tips I would love to hear your expert opinion.
