The language difference in Mandarin is the same as it’s in English from my point of view. Like some slangs are only used in the states or Canada but not in England or Australia.

I'm from Canada and have lived in Taiwan for 8 years. It's a great place. Sometimes you'll get Taiwanese people come up to you who want to practice their English with you. But they're pretty used to white people because of all the ESL teachers that work here. Also, Taiwan uses traditional Chinese for its writing, which is harder than the simplified Chinese that the mainland uses. This might cause some language differences.

Language wise: Similar to British English, American English, Australian English, Canadian English, South African English, Singaporean English where different words and phrases are used for the same things. Culture wise and daily life: British vs American have many obvious differences

they are both cereal wine. 高粱酒 means that the wine was fermented by 高粱 (one of a kind of cereal which same as rice and wheat); 白酒 means that the wine was fermented by multiple kinds of cereal (could be rice and gaoliang). It could be also fermented from gaoliang.

In terms of the wine glass lowering practice, one must note that Taiwanese are often not all that formal in everyday settings. Having said that, though, certain formality is still observed in more formal settings so do keep an eye out for differences the levels of formality may bring. As a side note, it sounded a bit iffy when you said you thought "that behavior would 'carry on' to here [Taiwan]" as it sounded like you thought things in Taiwan are supposed to be mostly originated from China when, in fact, there are influences from many other cultures such as Taiwanese aboriginal cultures and U.S. culture, etc. 2. 白酒 in Taiwan would be used to refer to white wine. 高粱酒 would be for referring exclusively to sorghum liquor. 3. Your pronunciations of most Mandarin Chinese words that you've said in this video were actually quite accurate. The only one that could use some more adjustments would be the pronunciation of the term "安全帽" for biking or safety helmet. Basically, just say the first part of "change" (removing the 'ge' sound) and then emphasize and prolong the nasal 'n' sound at the end. 4. As for inviting others to dine at one's home, I'm wondering whether you had an age range in mind when you said 'Taiwanese don't really do that.' Younger Taiwanese may fit into the description you've presented when you talked about this topic, but older Taiwanese may not fit into that description all that well. 5. Taiwan also has many dialects. For instance, how some may say something in their dialect of Taiwanese may not be understood without context by some other Taiwanese speakers. Just the one word of "congee" may be pronounced differently in three different dialects of Taiwanese. Furthermore, do also consider the many different Taiwanese aboriginal languages and dialects as well as the various languages and dialects brought to Taiwan by new residents/settlers/immigrants (新住民). 6. Both 夾克 and 外套 are used in Taiwan. The former often denotes a lighter jacket and the latter a heavier coat, but the latter may also include the former. Again, it's great that you are making notes of your observations. It sometimes is just best to be careful about comparing things across the Strait. Sensitive nerves may be triggered. Sometimes it may be better to just use separate videos to note how something is done in each location. My two cents.

I must say that some of my favorite content of his are the videos that you were in. I think the one that won me over was the McDonald's video, I definitely appreciated that you had a significantly different opinion than his. I love both C-Milk and Winston, and I like their production values and all of that, but I also really like your videos and how down-to-Earth they feel. I dunno, something about you talking on camera feels like just a regular conversation with a person, rather than a contrived scenario or a scripted event. First of all, thank you for making this video. It was very fun to watch. However, I would prefer you would talk to more people (different cities, different ages) as the people you usually hang out with, may or may not represent all Taiwanese. It is a very big topic to discuss, and I truly appreciate you making this video, but collecting more datas would be much more appreciated. For instance, people from Southern Taiwan, such as Tainan my home town, would invite you over for dinner. You're living in Taipei I assumed. Taipei is a metro city. Small accommodations are just like any metro cities, such as Tokyo, NYC. Isn't it? More so, Taiwan was once governed by the Japanese therefore some of the Taiwanese culture adapted from it. Also, Taiwan is more opened to foreign cultures as opposed to China. Taiwanese culture, especially in the metro area Taipei, would evolved into a more complexed behavior as time goes by. The parade in Taiwan are mostly Taoism, a more commonly practiced religion by local Taiwanese. It's different from Buddhism. Once again, thank you for making this video and the love of Taiwan.
