Irish music in the 70’s was incredible back in the 70’s, Clannad, Planxty, DeDanaan, the Bothy band, and the Chieftains. There wa a concert every Friday and Saturday. It was a great time to live in Dublin.

I love the raw, earthy quality of this group. Folk music has gone the way of the conservatory these days. Highly-trained virtuosos bring something valuable to folk music but there's something that is lost in all the perfection and ability. I'm not even sure people are that aware or bothered by it but I certainly feel it. Really cool to see and hear Clanned back in the hey day. Thanks a million for posting.

I wouldn't describe Clannad's art as "raw". They are extremely precise in their arrangements, very controlled.

@@jochannan7379 It takes a lot of skill to make it look "raw" when it is, as you say very controlled :)
@jochannan7379 Жыл бұрын
@@QRS666 I don't find their style "raw" at all. It is very measured. They are very precise, and they hardly ever improvise. I have all of their early records. What they perform on stage is almost identical to what they have recorded in studio.

They just finished their Farewell Tour, and they finished with this song. Living between Sacramento and San Francisco, I was able to see the two concerts prior to the final show in Seattle. Pol made sure the audience kept clapping along, all the way to the raucous ending. I've been to at least two hundred concerts, and those two are staying with me in a way that only two others have. Thank you Clannad for the great music and memories.

If you love Irish music, you'll love all the Celtic musics. Check out Scottish and Breton music also. I was raised in the southern U.S.A. (Nashville to be exact - my father listened to the Flatt & Scruggs radio program every morning when I was a child) though was never of fan of Country music (too simple, too commercial, too much the same and that not very good) or went to the Opry. When I discovered Celtic musics 30 years ago, I was mesmerized by these new, different harmonies and rhythms. I still am. I would recommend The Tannahill Weavers (especially Capernaum, one of the best albums I've heard in over 70 years of listening to music), Patrick Street, Eileen Ivers, Jerry O'Sullivan, and Ad Vielle Que Pourra. enjoy, richard -- Music is the companion of joy, the medicine of sorrow. - anonymous
