I completely agree. How I see it is Xuanren was the more authentic version of DH minus the childhood traumas and years of war. Xuanren was who DH was meant to be if his childhood had been a normal one. He was relaxed and playful cause he didn't have the weight of the world on his shoulders. Emotionally open without a pokerface cause he had a family who cared about his feelings...he never had to hide it and be strategic to survive so he is bluntly honest about his feelings. He was innocent naive and trusting cause he hadn't been betrayed yet. And drunk Shen ye at some point tells FJ why he pushed Aranya away and never told her he loved her. That was basically shen ye telling FJ about DH's feelings for her cause DH did the same thing. He is trying to protect her. And DH's jealousy I think stems from FJ's actions towards Xuanren. He didn't start of as jealous. I don't think its cause he is possessive or controlling. I think he has abandonment issues. Its not a coincidence he falls for a woman who mothers him and plays with him like a child...its what he was missing and craves. But I think his jealousy is a fear of losing her (to another man) as well. Which is kinda FJ's fault cause she does abandon him and lets him believe she cheated on him. I think thats why he is not only jealous but overly protective of her. But once he is more secure in his relationship you see facets of Xuanren come out in DH again (playful, relaxed, more talkative about his feelings). I think FJ healed something that was broken in DH for a long time. But I think she started to heal DH as the fox already. That fox also took care of him treating his wounds, protected him in the ward, was happy to see him. And DH started to talk about his feelings to the fox when his friend died...he let the pokerface slip....it was a simular moment as when Xuanren talked to FJ about his parents. And he was also upset when the fox abandoned him as well. She already had that man's heart as a fox. She made him fall in love with her over and over again without knowing....the fox, jiu and FJ...only to realise it when lian song told it to him...which is when he goes all in.
