In the 1850s of China, kejia(客家) people and guanfu(广府) people fight with each other for survival resourses, millions of people are involved. Finally, kejia people failed the war and over 80% of them had to leave their home for foreign places such southeast Asia, north America and so on. Canada is one of their destination. The first generation of imigrants really suffered a lot, they struggled for better life of their offsprings.

Chinese Canadians come in different waves/generations. These confederation/cpr workers mark the first generation of Chinese that set foot in Canada. Subsequent Chinese were immigrants that worked very hard to come here. Attitudes of Chinese change in different generations depending on the situation back home and the political attitudes China, HK, Taiwan, and Canada have over the idea of their people immigrating. Also, the cultural landscape for example how the journey of freedom and rights changed over the century. I came from the 90s HK wave of immigration to Canada and I was a little girl then, but I still know Chinese very well because Chinese Canadian is a very dominant minority in Vancouver Canada. Our presence in Canada changed over the past 40 years because of the impact Chinese immigrants of the 80s and 90s made to Canadian society. There are MPs, lawyers, doctors, businessman, entrepreneurs, basically occupations from all walks of life contributing to Vancouver's landscapes. Also, Vancouver is not the biggest, though we are the biggest in terms of proportion, but Toronto is the biggest in numbers, and Edmonton and Calgary is not bad with Chinese populations. We learnt to modernize and adapt and how to best represent ourselves and our community here. If you want to visit Vancouver though, Richmond is great for networking with Chinese people in Vancouver, it really does make you feel like home when you first start out in Vancouver, Burnaby's Crystal Mall is not bad either. Chinatown does not do what it used to do now. It's a respite for the benevolent societies here, but S.U.C.C.E.S.S is a good place to start in Chinatown if you really need help starting.
