Suggestion…. Not seein on yt. Found a great way ta attach signs to t posts. American Farmworks Ground rod clamps. Used two per post, to hang heavier metal sign, w/posts spread about 2 ft apart, I got slightly longer screws, and worked like a champ!

My question is how to keep the posts plumb? Once you start pounding, it best be plumb cuz there is no turning back. I can get them close, but inevitably I do mess a few up. Even the one in this demo appears a little crooked

I don't think there's any tried & true method to keep them straight, but it does get easier with experience. And yes, once they're in, you don't want to have to yank them back out!

The soil I have has rocks and hard clay. Will the post driver work?
@franklinindustries7598

This driver will push through some pretty hard stuff, at least with our posts. Lighter stamped posts are more likely to just bend; but because our posts are made from recycled railroad rails and hot-rolled, they can punch through some tough stuff.

Can you use zip ties instead of wire clips? I have a bunch of cable ties but no wire clips, hoping to avoid yet another trip to the hardware store!

Plastic won't last. You can make your own clips out of 3" pieces of wire if you want.

What's the inner diameter of that pounder? I think Tractor Supply might have the same model but want to make sure it fits before I buy it since I have to buy online. The store is 50 miles away.

couple hundred bucks or so will get you one from northern tool. I used one to put in about 3000 feet of fence a couple of years ago. it is pneumatic, so you will need an air compressor with a decent sized tank and a power source. I used about 700 feet of hose and generator to be able to reach everywhere I needed. the gas powered ones dont require quite so much creativity in getting air where you need to drive posts, but they cost more.

If you have a small tractor with a front end loader, you can start your posts like he shows in the vid, then come back with the bucket and push them down to depth...it's a lot easier...

What a joke, in the soil here there is no way to just poke it into the ground to start, every stroke with a driver moves it about 1/4" and when it hits a rock it tends to deflect and the post is no longer vertical.

Are tractor supply t-posts galvanized? Home Depot says theirs (Everbuilt) are. I wonder what real life of galvanized t-posts are in very sandy, humid and acidic soil central Florida is?
@franklinindustries7598
@franklinindustries7598 8 ай бұрын
I don't believe either of those are galvanized. We have supplied Home Depot in the past, and currently supply Tractor Supply. As far as we know, none of the posts that are painted are galvanized. A non-galvanized post that's rolled from rail steel will actually last a lifetime. The finish will erode within a couple years, but the steel itself will take a very long time to become compromised structurally. Galvanizing will keep it from having a rusty surface, and will probably protect it for a couple decades.
