This is so beautiful, it is heaven. I love this music so much, in one mounth april 2021 I shall be grand dad for the first time, a grand daughter. I shall sing for her Bach and listen with her to Bach and hope she will love classical music as much as I do, now for 57 years. Stay safe, greetings from the Netherlands

Kurtag wrote it exactly like this. It is a question of sound. The right hand mostly sounds more “cantabile” than the left one. For some places he wants the left hand just as “ color” at the sopran voice, but the main voice at the right hand (alto voice)

I'm not sure but I guess Kurtag did this so that the pianists are not hindering one another. All 4 hands are relatively close and if not played with crossed hands I imagine constant elbow bumping and rubbing of the underarms.

I don't know for sure but my guess is that it was written this way in order to prevent the pianists from hindering one another. All 4 hands are relatively close during the whole piece and if not crossed the pianists would constantly bump their elbows and rub their underarms at each other.
