This amazing casting was from our East Texas trip to a private golf course. Casting this fire ant mound on the side of a hill was very challenging and rewarding. The T Rex statue was a major added bonus. We did not know what we had in store for us until we showed up.
Thank you Mr. P for the opportunity.

That is really cool that they let you come on to their gold course and dig a big hole. The end result is stunning!

45 years ago when our sons were 5-6 years in Houston we couldn't have them go out to play in the front yard and in only certain parts of the park because of fire ant mounds. This would have been exciting. My sister and I would have enjoyed doing it ourselves.

What size crucible are you using, please?
@antznpantzcastings
@antznpantzcastings Жыл бұрын
@Jack Potter - In this video we are using a portable nitrogen cylinder with the top cut off for a crucible. It works great as long as we are melting aluminum. Silver, bronze, brass, and copper are too hot for this one and we have to use a #14 or #16 graphite crucible. Great question. Thanks for watching and supporting our channel.

What a unique piece. Why is the bottom portion thicker than what would be the top of their home? Seems backwards. You guys did a great job of getting it out of the ground. What is your favorite part of the process?
@antznpantzcastings
@antznpantzcastings Жыл бұрын
@enaidyeltneb369 - Thank you! The thicker bottom portion is the top of the mound at the surface. The depth and diameter of the mound is based on the age, temperature, moisture, and soil type. In the warmer months the ants are active at the surface. They regulate temp and moisture of the mound by creating the tunnels or taking them away. When they build a mound in soft soil, they can be really deep. When the build their mound in hard clay they are typically larger in diameter, but not very deep. Our favorite part besides sharing our videos with everyone is knowing there will never be two alike. We appreciate you watching and supporting our channel !!

I appreciate the need to edit but it would have been nice to see at least some of the hose-down to get rid of the initial load of clay. What a magnificent result though! And what a fitting way for a few thousand fire ants to die!

@peteacher52 - To be honest, we really do wish there was video footage of this casting being cleaned up. The one day trip to East Texas for us to pour these castings was limited to a 10 hour window on a private golf course. There were hundreds of acres and thousands of ant mounds (kid in a candy store). We had help from the property Forman scouting out the largest ones. We really needed a few more cameras rolling and a few more days for this massive event because we lost the opportunity to film so much more detail that we normally love to share. Looking back and learning a lesson, we should have made fewer pours and took more time focusing on the ones we did. We still ended up with 8 beautiful castings and have a few more videos coming soon from this trip. We appreciate you watching our videos and supporting our channel. Season 2 is about to start and we will soon travel around Texas looking for those massive fire ant mounds.

@suep9445 - Found this cool article. www.ludwig-van.com/toronto/2022/11/16/report-asmr-musicians-exploring-possibilities/ Check it out and let us know what you think. "Combining music and ASMR in live performance is a natural fit for electronic artists and new tech. New media artist and composer Erin Gee has been working with ASMR for a couple of years. Developed in a collaboration between the Music department at l’Université de Montréal and the National Theatre School of Canada in 2020-2021"

its absolutely gorgeous to be sure..... But ASMR is supposed to be relaxing and soothing. that growl at the begining shot my heartrate up and the music didn't help. please don't label your stuff ASMR if its not going to be? i love watching anthill castings, and i'll still make my way through your stuff. but....

@Laura - Thank you for watching our videos. We totally understand on the ASMR and the dinosaur roaring at the beginning. We tried to make the rest of the video more relaxing. We have found that ASMR means a lot of things to a lot of different people. 2022 was our first year of making ant mound casting videos and we experimented with a lot of things looking to see what appeals to people. We learned so much and appreciate people like you that give us great feed back. Good or bad! The only way we can get better is to find out what we need to improve on. Thank you again!
