BUILD: Hardware Organizer

Simple cheap wall mounted hardware & parts organizer.
The design allows for easy batch assembly, low cost lumber, customization of bin size, and easy future expansion.
The material used could vary, but for the video I used 1x4s(3), 2x4(1) and about a quarter sheet (2'x4') of 5mm underlayment to make 18 4" wide bins which easily hold a full standard size box of screws.
This was made on the cheap with materials I already had on hand, but probably less than $15 total cost for the materials I used if you needed to buy it all.

I love that this system can easily be adapted for longer fasteners, too. For example, if 6" bolts won't fit comfortably in the "standard" bin size, just make a couple of longer ones. NEAT!!

Great job. I need a couple hundred of them. Any machine that we scrap I save all the bolts, nuts, screws, washers , and so on. Now I have 5 gallon buckets full of from tiny computer board screws to bolts from heavy equipment that needs seperate compartments like these.

Awesome, any storage videos like this I cannot do as I make things in my dads garage which has workbenches and everything there, but when I move out maybe in 10 years time who knows ! I will have tons of knowledge and the freedom to make all of these projects :)

Great system for storage. As a matter of interest, have you ever heard of the split/French Cleat. It would simplify the hanging of your storage units and also give the same flexibility as far as where you place the boxes.

yeah I had considered it but decided against it, it would have made the boxes stick farther from the wall and they would be easier to knock off the wall since french cleats don't block the top generally, french cleats are cool but i only use them for hanging cabinets and things that will ultimately be screwed to the wall but that i want to be easily hung and removed if need be.

Another winner. I like how you use production methods in your work. Everything is a process and if you work the details out it makes it that much more enjoyable. I see a lot of Fastcap Products in your work. Do you follow Akers Lean Methodology or is it just something you do naturally?

Thank you! And no not exactly I do love the lean methodology in concept but I haven't really studied it at all. I'm a software engineer so I think I just tend to think in terms of systems and sub-systems.
