Just started a 6 point Roman Republic Warband for AoH and saw this battle report in the archives, fantastic game and descriptions :) My SAGA world for the last year has been Anglo Saxons and Anglo Danes for AoV.

As have I. The buy-in is a little off-putting though. I was looking at the Age of Fantasy stuff, and worked out that to get the books, boards dice etc was £80+.

@@blastvader You do not need the dice. Just d6s and identify which number is which symbol. That is not a buy in. I keep reading about buy-in and you really just need the main rulebook and whatever theatre you want to play in. If you want to go all-in, sure, dice go higher (same with measuring and tokens). If you want to pokemon it, sure it gets pricier :-D

I played the "dark age" Saga a lot. It is really fun. have not tried this one or fantasy-Saga. The battle boards are very important. Some are wacko but traditinoal historical matchups I ahve always found good/fun.

I think the Carthage player had wrong dice on abilities that did not match the icon.Saga is a great system, glad to see it on here!

Hello. I came here because I'm interested in Saga but I wanted to commend you on the quality of the batrep. I tend to get motion-sick when someone hand-holds the camera, or bored when someone just mounts it above the table and leaves it, and have spent a lot of thought on what I think would make the best batrep. Yours is the closest I've seen to how I would do it if I could. Composing interesting shots and putting your camera on a tripod makes the game easier to follow than a top-down map. is wide enough to give me context of where the action is happening. and doesn't leave me dizzy. Good job!

@@tabletopcp True, but I find it hard to suggest. After editing my painting videos I know how much work producing videos is. I know how much work it is even for the people who do the single-shaky camera batreps. Much less cutting between what appears to be 3 cameras and pausing play to setup camera angles. It's the kind of video I would like to make if I could, but I know it's a lot of work and not only does shooting the thing take longer than a normal batrep, but editing was probably a minimum of 5x the finished length.

Nice one!! Haven’t played saga in a long time, and Vikings /Saxons at that. I’m guessing the Contingent/Citizen thing reflects Carthage using loads of Mercenaries, as opposed to only a small indigenous Army.

Love Saga! Quick rules tip: when you leave dice on your battle board at the start of your turn this does not influence the amount of dice you are allowed to roll. This way you can build up some abilities until you are using the 8 dice maximum.

Very different from Infamy Infamy but I still liked it. The battle boards are very interesting. Stampy is very powerful, two would be hard to deal with. Well done Gents 👍👍

Interesting game. I’ve been wanting to get into an ancients game and SPQR and Mortal Gods doesn’t really seem to fit the bill. I need to look into Saga more. Thanks for the report

Levy Javelin in melee generate 1 attack dice per 3 figures (always rounding up). So in that first melee the Levy should of rolled 4 dice. 😀👍

With regards to Travis’s cavalry getting caught up fighting Levy... it is commonly understood in Saga that attacking 12 Levy in combat with almost anything will just tie up your unit for the rest of the game. There are just too many of them!

Nice game and a nice change. I liked watching it and the rules seem quite neat. If we are in new games, did you think about branching out into a different scale, like 9mm or 6mm instead of the 28mm? In my experience, these scales make for more strategic games.

Hey Anthony. We made those. They are are meant to go on the ends of the 8’ board to bring it down to 6’ but also useful to make smaller tables like this one.

Introduced me to SAGA. Really looked interesting. Man you should open a side hustle building commission tables. I am handicapped (lost an arm/leg) so having a bitch of a time finding ones for wargaming. Any suggestions would be appreciated in general!

The table itself is just and 8x4 sheet of plywood that we put an edge around and built some removable trays for.

Allan can you look again at the restriction to double check that. I thought it said the players hearthguard can't exceed half the number of warriors on foot? So like 4 hearthguard for every 8 warriors purchased?

Incorrect. You simply can’t take more Triarii than half the number of Warriors in your force.
