Knucklebones Miniatures and Bestiarum Miniatures nail the grimdark fantasy aesthetic really well. Love seeing both their models on the table! I just used up the last of my strong tone wash so I think now is the perfect time to give Streaking Grime a try :)

If you enjoyed the Warlord M4 kit, I would definitely recommend trying a kit from Rubicon Models - they are awesome. Current favourite hobby podcast is The Painting Phase, Peachy opens up his Contacts list and gets them in to talk about wargames design, process and history in really engaging manner. Bob Naismith and Trish Carden about sculpting, James Hewitt about games design and the fella who was leading the product design team were real highlights.

Knucklebones minis are great. I purchased a bunch for This Is Not A Test and really enjoyed painting them. They have tons of character and just this odd, quirky aesthetic that I love. Kill Sample Process is also great. The whole Forbidden Psalm line is just really fun.

It's nice to see Warlord Games getting some love. They're consistantly high quality games and minis at very reasonable (at least here in the UK) prices. I'd say Grey For Now games is my pick for the year, a one man company that produces the most interesting skirmish rulesets that are ideal for historical games but great too for Sci Fi. Happy New Year to all!

Their games are a staple round these parts. Bolt Action has a very strong following and tournament scene, and we do those big multi-player games of Hail Caesar, Black Powder and Pike & shotte at the club every couple of months. We have run a few games of the Epic Black Powder rules with the 13mm figures and it's actually pretty great.

One for my paint desk and one for my wife to use as intended. Knuckle bones and Bestiarum are two of my favorite sculptors. Lord of the Print churns out great stuff on the other end of the spectrum too.

For my 2023 hobby enjoyment, my top pick has to be the new Bambu Lab P1S 3d printer with AMS. More affordable than their flagship X1 Carbon, but still very high quality core x/y FDM prints. And the AMS helps with multicolor prints, but my main use of it is production printing, just load it up with 4 spools of the same color and when one spool runs out, it jumps to the next spool and keeps going. Fantastic for modern wargaming vehicles in 15mm and all your terrain needs.

@@tabletopminions There are some rabid Bambu Lab fans out there, and while I like the printer, it's not 100% perfect. But, for the cost, it's far more productive than my old Ender 3. And since it's about the only increase to my tabletop gaming for the year (took a part-time job at the FLGS in addition to my regular job, and while I am getting paid to talk about gaming and games, my own personal gaming has suffered), it was an easy choice for my personal 2023 awards. Thanks for the videos, they are entertaining to watch.

Good list, worthy winners. Since you asked, my favourite new game of 2023 was Xenos Rampant, but the games I played the most were 5 Parsecs and Alphastrike. Honourable mention to Majestic 13 for best looking rule book, I'll finally be playing it in 2024! Metallic speedpaints are my hobby product winners, super smooth and interesting colours. Too many minis to pick an individual figure winner but Wargames Atlantic have been making lots of cool stuff so I'll stick with them.

Nice one. I'll certainly be checking out the silicone fidget widget. My pick in terms of rules was "Never mind the billhooks: deluxe" . This is a ruleset originally published as a pamphlet in Wargames Illustrated for battles in the Wars of the Roses. The expanded version which shipped in late '22 now covers a lot more ground, giving rules for all sorts of wars in the late 15th-early 16th centuries. One of the barriers to entry to a lot of medieval wargames is "I have to paint all those figures" and "they are all in metal, it's too expensive with the shipping". Billhooks gets you around that in that the scale is designed to work with around 2 boxes of the Perry Miniatures plastic minis which are lovely figures, all interchangeable between ranges in terms of bits and very affordable.. The production quality on the book is just gorgeous as well, with very detailed painting/kitbashing appendices at the end of the book.

Uncle Adam is getting his money worth out of that tuxedo shirt. Well I’m have a great pile of “new” tabletop games this year that I haven’t played before. I finally bought space weirdos, sword weirdos, and Frostgrave books and will one day play them. And Majestic 13 is ready to play once I’m done with my long campaign of my latest playthrough of Space Station Zero. Gotta get me some tanks to try Tanks for the Apocalypse. Been a busy year so hopefully with Wisconsin winter coming eventually I’ll have more time to play these games.

Honestly, Mordheim has always been on the top of my personal favourites list. The esthetic, the rules, the campaign rules. With the Old World coming back, perhaps GW could find room to provide support so it will be easier to find new people and models to inject into the scene.

HI Uncle Atom I've been following your channel for a while now, and I must say, it's a breath of fresh air in the world of art channels. What stands out the most for me is the authenticity and realness that you bring to every video. One of the best aspects is the focus on the artistic process rather than unnecessary drama or gossip. It's clear that you value the craft and want viewers, especially hobbyists like myself, to understand the intricacies of painting. The content consistently provides insights into techniques and approaches, making it a valuable resource for anyone interested in the art of painting. What I appreciate the most is the variety in content. The channel doesn't stick to a rigid format but rather explores different aspects of painting. Whether it's trying out new mediums, showcasing unique styles, or sharing personal experiences, the variety keeps the content engaging and informative. Moreover, despite the channel's success, you have managed to stay grounded. There's no hint of arrogance or self-importance. It's evident that the passion for art and the desire to share knowledge with the audience are the driving forces behind the channel. In an era where many content creators get caught up in controversies or repetitive content, this channel is a shining example of staying true to one's roots. The genuine approach and commitment to delivering quality content make it a go-to for anyone wanting an authentic and enriching art experience. Highly recommended! thank you Paul Anderson aka i_like_to_paint_minis @i_like_to_paint_minis

Some interesting winners in there - I'm off to order a silicone fidget popper! I also like having something on in the background and a podcast that I came across this year is 'Rule of Carnage', two miniature games designers talking through all the different aspects of games design; it's also on YT and is well worth a listen. My miniatures award would go to 'Bloody Miniatures' who produce beautiful figures for the English Civil War. This has never been a period that captured my attention but these figures have changed all that - they are intended for low-level skirmish actions and are full of animation, character and detail. My next award would be the two backdrop books produced by John Hodgson of Handiwork Games. These are A4 books of colour backdrops for use when photographing your miniatures - one is aimed at Sci-fi and the other is more generic. They are dead easy to use, include a guide on taking photos of miniatures, and really elevate the visual appeal and interest of any photos you take. Finally, although I have never played RPGs, I would like to put a shout out for three RPG systems - Beowulf, Age of Heroes; The One Ring and Ironsworn. The first two really capture the look and feel of a particular place, setting and 'period', which has added a huge amount of depth to my miniatures games, as well as generating lots of ideas for scenarios and campaigns. Ironsworn is a system for playing solo RPGs and as a mostly solo wargamer, this has got a stack of ideas that readily transfer across. And the pdf is free to download! Thanks for another year of great content and all the best for 2024!

I'm putting together and painting my Tomb Kings army in prep for the Old World and needed new bases. I found Proxie Models which is a one-man shop who makes bases here in the USA. They have competitive prices and were a treat to work with. The bases are flat bottomed and slightly shorter than GW ones which is nice for adding a strip of kitchen magnet to. I bought a bunch of 25mm square and 30x60mm for cav. My second mention would be Kill Team: Ashes of Faith, what a great box. Too bad GW didn't make nearly enough of them and they sold out pretty quickly. Honorable mention: Wargame Atlantic. These guys just keep coming out with more and more 28mm sets and introduced a digital marketplace for STLs as well. I plan on picking up a few boxes of their Skeleton Chariots when they release in early 2024.

Congrats on being selected to represent the new Fanatical line of Army Painter. If it's 1/2 as good as the hype I'm excited. But I'm going to push back a bit on your choice of Warlord games products. And I'm saying this knowing it is just me and my experience and not the norm but... Went to my first gaming con in over 20 years this year, Gen-con. had an absolute blast for most of it. Played some Battletech, Blood Bowl, did some shopping, won some auctions for old old mini's, took a painting class on wet blending, got to hang out with a friend I hadn't seen in 20 yrs. Almost every part of that trip was positive, even the vendor area where I was able to dodge "oversized back packs" and other traps. But I signed up to try the Dredd Demo. Saturday night , 7pm on the Field floor. showed up 15 min prior. watched and waited for the previous demo to finish. took a seat and waited. Someone in a Warlords vest came by, got my ticket, and politely said your demo host will be here soon. Waited 45 min. No one ever showed up. plenty of Warlord reps looked in my direction, made eye contact, mumbled to their coworker but never approached me. I'm not mad about the $8 for the ticket. I understand that I was the only person who signed up for the demo that showed up. But to just ignore me sitting there (they were running a couple other games that were full so it's not like I could just switch over to another demo) They just left a sour taste for what was otherwise one of the best experiences of my life.

As you say, there wasn't necessarily anything to loudly shout about that came out of 2023 for me either, but some things that brought me nothing but joy in 2023 are - 1. Stargrave (Loved the idea and the openness of what kind of sci-fi you want it to be from Star Wars to Star Trek, from Firefly to even WH 40k itself) 2.Diehard Mini's (Absolutely awesome metal mini's for both Sci-fi & Fantasy that really pile on the nostalgia in a modern way) 3. Mantic (Specifically their terrain ranges - they have allowed me to construct everything from modern day cities to fallout wastes, necromunda hives, exotic alien planets, the inside of starships, etc, etc this past year) 4. Anvil Industries (They have really stepped up their offerings this past year, making more of their models accessible) 5.Northstar Military Figures (Off the back of stargrave, I love their Stargrave dedicated range & I've had some brialliant interactions with them this past year).

I'm going to throw a positive comment in for Monster Fight Club. My son got their Borderlands Kickstarter and we all (family of 4 adults) love playing it! I dont even play the video game but the boardgame is fun. The gameplay is supposed to be similar to Cyberpunk Red Combat Zone. The minis are small but fun and interesting to paint. The basegame comes with tokens, dice and map tiles and all sorts of cards. It took us a couple of rounds to figure it all out but its a great gateway game, skirmish fights with a good AI and premade choose your own adventure type campaign. We have some of the expansion boxes that the Kickstarter was offering but not all of them. The extra vault hunters is a great addition. I look forward to seeing what they come out with next.

I’ve wanted a fidget popper palette since you first mentioned the idea but it seems to be impossible to find one in white. The ones in the link are in relatively muted ‘Scandinavian’ tones, but the lightest one is ‘blizzard’, an off-white, and it comes in a box with a dark grey one. They’re relatively expensive, too. I haven’t built a tank yet for Tanks for the Apocalypse because my kit-building skills are poor, as my collection of semi-built kits attests. I know if I try to build one I’ll lose something important - such as the turret or a set of running gear - but I have bought an assembled model on eBay that wasn’t identified. It turned out to be the Warlord resin kit of Oddball’s Sherman from Kelly’s Heroes, minus one crew member. It may require a special rule or two.

You know that thing when a friend stands behind you and acts like your hands when you speak? That's how it looks when you talk and move your hands. It's facinating how disjointed your speech to handmovments are.

Ok, Adam. Now get Army Painter to release a silicone wet palette for us painters. Here in the EU we only seem to have the rainbow colored kids variants. 🤣🤣 And I'm a bit to proud to have that on my panting table.

I definitely think Majestic 13 should have been on the list. It's on mine and I've gotten more play out of that game than any other this year. But, I understand why you might've omitted that one.

Both cyberpunk games sound interesting. Build and painted some miniatures for SR some time ago but Corona stalled the RPG project. 😢

Uncle Adam how come you didn't mention Majestic 13? I picked your game up shortly after you featured it on your channel and have played it about twice a month since then. It's fantastic and I highly recommend it to everyone. Just wanted to thank you for your work on it cause it's honestly one of my favorites to play.

Presumably they don’t qualify because they haven’t been released yet. Movie release dates are often selected with Oscar nominations in mind so perhaps the gaming & modelling industry will follow suit.
