Welcome to TPDA, where Howard County’s best ballet and contemporary dancers study. Turning Pointe Dance Academy, conveniently located to Route 100, I-95 and I-295 in Hanover, Maryland, offers a wide variety of dance classes during the academic school year and the summer months for all ages and skill levels. Instruction begins at age 2. Tracks of study offer pathways for recreational, pre-profession, post-professional, and adult students. Teacher training offers professionals the ability to become certified in the Cecchetti Method of Ballet.
Our mission is to train recreational students, pre-professional dancers and teachers while fostering a love of dance. Our Artistic Director, Elaine Seidman began her dance training in the area with The National Ballet, where she grew up dancing many full-length ballets as well as many original contemporary ballets. She majored in dance at SUNY Purchase and received her BFA in Drama from The Catholic University. After dancing professionally and teaching in New York City and the surrounding area, Elaine returned to the Washington/Baltimore area where she has been teaching locally for the past 20 years.
As a Fellow Member of the CCA, Elaine holds the coveted Maestro Enrico Cecchetti Diploma and is able to present both teachers and students through all levels of the Cecchetti Method. She is a proud recipient of the Sylvia Hamer/Margaret Marsh Scholarship allowing her to study the method in England.
Turning Pointe Dance Academy’s students have been accepted at some of the best dance universities in the world including NYU, SUNY Purchase, North Carolina School for the Arts, Julliard, the Laban Institute in London and the Kate Simmons College in Manchester England. Her students have been awarded college scholarships, the Tremaine Convention Performing Arts Scholarship and scholarships to attend international summer programs.
