Best thing I do to unspool a reel get a bolt some washers and a nut if you have a empty line spool or really anything put the bolt through the spool washers and nut then put the thread end in a chuck drill and unspool a reel in now time

I used cones from a couple of wheel bolts instead of bushings, that way you can change manufacturer and always have the spool centered and "tight". I also used the foot from a articulating lamp so that it was movable and turnable, flat sided for spinning reel's and rolling for baitcaster's (i dont have a dedicated workplace for my fishing gear)

I have one I built for my boat. Cost me $10. First piece is a 3/4" dowel from lowes for $6. I cut it to the width of my center storage locker, so it sits in the lid opening, but doesn't fall in. Second was two spring clamps from Harbor Freight for $2 each. Put your spool on the dowel, clamp the dowel in place in the center storage compartment. BOOM...I keep those on my boat. It's cheap, it's fast, I can respool a reel quickly on the go while sitting between the seats. I've seen all kinds of contraptions and devices sold for doing it on a boat, many costing a lot more. This is by far the cheapest I could come up with and it works so dang good. I've shown it to a lot of people in my club and they all use this method now. Now, there's no tension built in, but we employ the Iaconelli method of spooling and run our line through a towel soaked in line conditioner. That provides the tension, and doubles to condition the line as it's going on the spool. If you've ever spooled fresh line and tensioned with your fingers you'll notice this chalky powder that's left behind. Going through a towel of conditioner removes that. That being said, BRAVO, sir! I'll be picking up the supplies to build one of your spooling stations in my shop.

Thats a great setup and im definitely doing this. What if you soldered or epoxy the washers and spring together? So when you have to change spools its just one peice and the wing nut.

I bought one on wish 2 years ago paid 6 bucks for it now they have it for 4.79 I still have it use it a lot works well with the 100 to 300 yard spools and 1/4 lb spools definitely won’t fit bulk spools though but mine clamps to anything that. The clamp fits on to I take it with me everywhere a long with my tub of spools of line But great idea for people

Awesome! Now let's see your solution for spooling a spinning reel, because you can't spool them the way to can a Baitcaster. They are a PITA to put line on. I'm getting close to buying one of those fancy contraptions from Tackle Warehouse...but if you got a solution.
I built one a couple of years ago, very similar. I didn't use the bushings, but used two washer back to back. The problem I have is the spool will tighten the wing nuts down, to the point you can't stripe the line off the spool. Do you ever have any issues with the tension changing?
@TackleJunky815 ай бұрын
I've only spooled a few reels with it so far, but no issues yet.

Why not just grind off 1/8" off the brass bushing for smaller spool? It would still work on the larger spool. thanks
