Just installed mine today and it took literally just 1 minute. A friend of mine works for a local body shop, and has seen a rise in Tacoma tail beds…costing anywhere from 3k-7k for repair! So far in security I’ve spent $500 on a converter shield by a shop here in town and then like $30 on this lock.

Can also get a super cheap lock actuator. Wire it to your door locks and then install the actuator to the tailgate lock . when you lock/ unlock your truck your tailgate will lock and unlock with it .. Gotta open it to steal it

I installed mine in 30 seconds, it flops around a little but doesn't rattle. Must have product.

SaBellCo makes a superior tailgate lock, to many of these others are easy to defeat. Someone stealing tailgates to resell on the black market will know the different types of locks used and will have the handful of tools needed to defeat them. A good sharp chisel and a hammer will defeat that in just seconds.

Does this product rub on any painted surfaces, causing premature rust?

Anything that rattles around like this will eventually wear away the paint and rust will take hold. Bad design. If you really want a quality tailgate lock purchase a SaBellCo tailgate lock, they are made from a solid block of aluminum that is CNC machined and they use a quality lock, they fit tight and would take a long time to defeat. Don't confuse the Amazon/ebay knock offs of the SaBellCo tailgate lock, the knock offs are made from cheap cast aluminum and use a cheap lock, cast aluminum will break away in chunks or shatter if struck with a hammer.

@@remkoart I have a Dremel that uses small cutting discs no problem at all but a sharp chisel and a hammer will just as quickly defeat a metal band like that. SaBellCo makes the best tailgate lock for a Tacoma, it is made out of CNC machined aluminum and has a high quality lock. Don't confuse the Amazon/ebay knock offs of the SaBellCo tailgate locks, The knock offs use a cheap cast aluminum body that can be defeated quickly.

@@eric989901 Those who steal tailgates to sell on the black market will come prepared with a few tools to defeats locks like this one, and others. The best tailgate lock on the market for a Tacoma is the SaBellCo tailgate lock, they CNC machine the lock body out of a solid piece of aluminum and use a quality lock, the Amazon/ebay knock offs that copied the SaBellCo tailgate lock use a cheap cast aluminum body and a cheap lock both of which are easy to defeat. Cast aluminum is not very strong.
